Steve Bruce’s son Alex has taken exception to an article written by the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope. The article written yesterday after Newcastle’s narrow 0-1 defeat to Arsenal highlighted the substitution gaffe that ultimately led to Newcastle’s undoing.
Alex Bruce has come out today and defended his father which is admirable. However, this is not what is needed for Steve Bruce right now. Steve just needs to accept responsibility for the last 30 minutes of yesterday’s match and move on.
This is the exchange that Alex Bruce has had with Craig Hope.
The buck stops with Steve Bruce after clumsy introduction of Jetro Willems (who did not know where he was playing) disrupts NUFC rhythm before ragged final half hour https://t.co/vs1zHUuJ4q
— Craig Hope (@CraigHope_DM) August 11, 2019
Never seen so much nonsense and lazy journalism, nothing in the game at all most people with a brain could see that except one mistake, this is a prime example of exactly what Graeme Souness was on about yesterday https://t.co/rp1QWMp28F
— Alex Bruce (@AlexBruce84) August 12, 2019
You're right Alex, there was nothing in the game. So fine margins make the difference, yes? A player coming on & not knowing where he is playing is a fine margin. Two minutes later & he is caught cold for the goal. For that, the buck stops with the manager.
— Craig Hope (@CraigHope_DM) August 12, 2019
Willems came on in centre midfield exactly where he played for @eintracht_eng last season for Shelvey who was carrying a knock but I suppose you’d prefer an injured player left on the pitch?? https://t.co/hdbASbAtUu
— Alex Bruce (@AlexBruce84) August 12, 2019
We've been v fair with your dad so far. He's made a good impression. But we have to comment on a game in isolation – and bringing on a player who doesn't know where he's playing does not look good. It affected the team & contributed to losing a game they deserved something from. https://t.co/fF807yk4HT
— Craig Hope (@CraigHope_DM) August 12, 2019
As for "creating a shit storm". Please, don't blame the journalist. All fans are talking about is the confusion of the Willems sub, not naming a midfielder on bench & how ragged the final half hour was. To blame a reporter is ludicrous – Steve McClaren tried that & didn't get far https://t.co/fF807yk4HT
— Craig Hope (@CraigHope_DM) August 12, 2019
A player making a short pass which was cut out lead to the the result, nothing to do with tactics or personnel….. and Willems knew exactly what his role was going on it’s just you trying to cause negativity. V fair?? It was his 1st game and your already starting https://t.co/8sgAuCUKHl
— Alex Bruce (@AlexBruce84) August 12, 2019
We don’t think Craig Hope said anything wrong and we understand that it must be very hard for Alex Bruce as his father has not been well received by many in Newcastle. Yesterday’s second half did not do anything to help Bruce and that is just the way it is.
However, it was time to move on to Norwich and now Alex Bruce has stirred it up again by confronting a journalist who made a very astute and accurate observation.
Bruce needs to put yesterday in perspective and right the wrongs for Norwich. It should be taken as a learning experience and his focus should now move to getting the squad ready for a pivotal match at Carrow Road.

Comment #44Every Monday The Guardian writes a short piece on each of the premiership matches. Today’s piece on the Newcastle game was all about the protest – nothing about the match. That’s got to be good, except that the opinion was that the protest was a failure.
“Newcastle may have to rethink boycott protests.
Around 300 Newcastle fans marched through the rain from the Sports Direct store in Northumberland Street and congregated by the burger van at the bottom of Strawberry Place. They made their presence felt and registered their protest against Mike Ashley’s continued ownership of the club. But still the club were able to announce an attendance of 47,635, just under 5,000 off capacity. That includes season-ticket holders who may not have turned up but, still, despite the filthy weather there did not appear to be more than 6,000?7,000 empty seats at St James’. This is a major problem for those who wish to organise protests: it will take far more than that not to turn up before any boycott begins to have an impact and, at the moment, there seems very little appetite for that – or, at least, there are enough casual fans willing to pick up tickets to counter the recusant hardcore.
Jonathan Wilson”
And, by the way, the attendance figure of 47,365 matches the official police figure.

As for democratic …last week they released the members survey .
Of those who responded 67 % sop ported a boycott of the arsenal game .

Comment #47To all you protesters on here, only way to get Ashley out is to stump up £350 million and have a spare £100 million per year to invest. Looking at the group of protesters on Sunday I would be surprised if they had a spare £1000.00 amongst the lot of them.
I want Ashley out as much as anyone but where is the money coming from?????

Comment #49The boycott has made a statement, I’m not going back while Ashley is here, not sure whether or not that is boycotting or not. Steve Bruce and Lee Churnley driven by their puppet master will arrange all further boycotts by themselves, I don’t doubt that. Anyone blaming the fans for the atmosphere in the stadium needs a serious raincheck. Is it the fault of that guy who had been going since 1966 and was about to get his OAP’s discount this year but couldn’t take the lies and deceit anymore, is it the hibbit briothers fault for paying their money for so long yet deciding enough is enough. Why should wor flags bother their arses to create an atmosphere in the stadium for a load of day trippers who might not even clap let alone belt out the Blaydon races, one man alone is to blame for this malaise.

I think most of the empty seats would have been ST holders that didn’t renew but I don’t think it is over yet, if we get,a run of poor results then I think fans will stop paying at the gate because they won’t be confident that Bruce can turn it around, after looking at the competition over the weekend I was pleasantly surprised, I would say our squad looks stronger than half the teams in the Prem so I have gone for 9th place for Martoon’s predictions I think a lot will depend on the team putting a shift in for Bruce, but 9th place is still no more than kicking the can down the road. I feel sorry for the fans that took part in the boycott because they will be the ones that will take the stick at the away games at least they are the ones with the b@lls

Yeah they hold public meetings. Not well attended, but they hold public meetings.
Their policy decisions are not made at these meetings. That takes place within the group itself.
Hence Secret Club.

The democracy comes in thus. The members can stand for election and change the policy.
With the other groups you have to agree with them or your not welcome.
If 300 people joined Ashley Out and put forward a more balanced view they would hate it.
They’d probably leave and form another group – Fans Against Ashley.

If organised well you don’t always need huge numbers these days to get a message out and bring real change .
When Facebook bought Instagram for 0ne billion $ us Instagram at the time had 12 employees
Nust now is closing in on 10 k but all I saw in the last 2 weeks was some cringy train spotting parody from the self promoting wraithe.

You havnt listened at all. People join the magpie group by putting themselves forward.
We are in our infancy but that is about to change.
And yes open meetings are were fans can put ideas across and then they are acted on, and it is important more turn up to meetings and join.
Look the magpie group is young but we are here for the long haul.
Look up rangers fans group who are just like us. Started 2 years ago now own 10 percent of the club so it is achievable it just takes you to participate.
If youve had enough of ashleys version of nufc contact the magpie group join them be a voice, they are given you a platform to speak.

If you go to a meeting and there are only 30 folks there what type of folks are they.
Are they representative of NUFC supporters.
Stand up at one of those meetings and say awful things about Ashley and you’ll get cheers and clapped etc.
Stand up and say something they don’t like and it does down like a fart in a space suit.

All the groups that are part of TMG want Ashley out, they all still do individual things but come togther under one banner.
Some people agreed with the boycott, some didn’t, some people who came to TMG public members meetings protested outside SD and the club shop and went into the ground after.
The reason TMG dont have a written list of members with a vote as you put it is because we’ve needed to sort out bank accounts etc for donations and funding.
It has to be transparent and waterproof so every member knows what funds and where it goes
Same as the website, it’s being worked on but isn’t quite ready.
A lot of stuff you’re thinking or asking is being addressed, TMG see this as a long term fight we want to put our best foot foward not stumble over the start line.
I do understand your line of questions.
The main group who are trying to get this off the ground are about 20. Theres a lot of work for 20, there was around 20 interviews for different media outlets last week plus 2 meetings the protest itself and stuff in the background. I had 1 day last week where I wasnt involved with something related to TMG.
We need more people involved, more boots on the street, please come to the next meeting even just to voice your concerns.
If you get satisfactory answers it may help you and others understand and join our cause.

The only people who get shouted down are drunk rable rousers.
That sort of behaviour and mindset will get TMG nowhere
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the main aggression came from those attending the game not those protesting
Those there supporting stood in the rain, some for upto 4 hours, they weren’t drunk looking for confrontation, they were looking for a way to save their club.
