Lee Charnley Issues Statement On “Fabricated” Bruce Report

We have been distressed over the recent comments made by Newcastle managing director Lee Charnley. Lee illogically thought it would be wise to go after Rafa Benitez seemingly out of the blue in some of his notes for this past Sunday’s match.

While there were issues with some of the other topics he decided to touch upon, it was the personal smears of Newcastle’s ex-manager that troubled us the most.

This club has had a Jekyll and Hyde summer in the communications department. Fans had implored the club to give some indication of the situation in regards to a takeover and the status of beloved manager Rafa Benitez.

Even Newcastle legend Alan Shearer devoted one of his Sunday pieces in the Sun to the radio silence coming from his hometown club. It was the day after Alan wrote his article that Newcastle released a quick statement of Rafa’s departure.

Then the club returned to the cold, clinical silence as the fanbase mourned. The search for a new head coach was similarly cloaked in uncertainty as was the dwindling hope that any takeover would happen.

Steve Bruce would belatedly be appointed manager and have to sell his appointment to the press and the fans. The club, for the most part, remained silent even with a brewing compensation scandal with Sheffield Wednesday, who Bruce had left to join Newcastle.

Steve Bruce

We remember Alan Pardew’s appointment being met with similar disgust from the fanbase. He had been hired when popular coach Chris Hughton had unceremoniously gotten the sack in 2010.

Alan seemed a lonely figure as he attempted to justify the situation surrounding his hiring. He found little help from the powers that be at Newcastle.

Steve Bruce has handled the current circumstances very well. Though he may be hoping that the club go back to their policy of silence as Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley have done little to help him when they do decide to communicate.

The Chronicle have published an interview where Lee Charnley has dispelled some of the controversy surrounding Steve Bruce’s appointment.

This is how Lee has responded to the notion that Steve Bruce was very low on the list of contenders for the head coach position:

“Nonsense. Absolute garbage.

“That (11th choice) was a complete fabrication.

“It is disrespectful to Steve and it was done to try to create negativity around him.

“It is completely false.”

“The reality is we went through a comprehensive and extensive process.

“Steve was always somebody who was in our thinking.

“But you have to explore every option.”

“Steve is a really nice guy and genuinely cares about the city and the football club.

“He is somebody we can have a really good relationship with and we can work with.

“He is also an excellent man-manager.”

These comments are what should have been written on Sunday instead of the garbage about Rafa Benitez. This would have been more in line with the club’s assertion that it is trying to move forward.

The fact that Steve Bruce was employed at Sheffield Wednesday most likely had him further down the list than other candidates. How far down doesn’t really matter, but Lee Charnley should have responded to this a lot sooner than now.

We welcome Lee Charnley to be more open with the fans. However, we hope he shows more wisdom in how he chooses to do that. Supporting his head coach is at least a decent start.

He’s be better off addressing the issue of training ground etc and publishing a strategic plan to invest in the infrastructure of the club.
All he’s doing is putting pressure on Linton and now on Bruce – FFS they already have fans on their backs – stop giving more ammunition

    A more reasoned comment.
I’ll ask you again. What was not factual about what I said.
Attempts to recruit OLG into TMG.

They are trying to create this idea that I don’t know anything about them.
Well, I know enough. More than they think.

How will you find out more about them.
Well, they don’t have a web site.
So, it will have to be twitter or face book.

    Be careful how you go.

I see people praising Norwich for their “attacking football”. They were 4 nil down at half time FFS and then Liverpool took their foot off the gas. Still could have scored another 3. I am sure the doom and gloomers will still say we have no chance against them.

You dont read peoples comments on this blog do you.
Ive actually personally got a few things incommon with olg.
We like electronics, frequencies, toon, hate ashley, both on our own unrelated quest to down ashley.
Ive asked to get in contact a few times before i was in the magpie group.
So truth be told you are making assumptions on everything to do with me and the magpie group.

Go to a meeting if you want to find out more. You clearly dont so dont go.
Do what you want same with anyone else.

Tony, I’ll have to catch up on the posts later. I used to live out near Noyes on the EL. DD and a brilliant Korean place just on that street highly recommend it.

With regard to Sam, I might be making 5. I was sure he’d been offered/approached however we carnt be certain since the club will just deny it now anyway.

The situation at the club will NEVER change as long as this current bunch of incompetents are at the helm! They will say anything to blacken Rafa’s name as it in their view gives them a clear conscience and relief from the fans angst! They are incorrect on both counts. Most fans know that the club is lurching from crisis to crisis and the media are just looking for the next installment to make us a laughing stock again. Make no mistake there is no direction at the club, the seats on Sunday were made up of folk who saw an opportunity to fill in time and the majority were not true supporters. The true supporters boycotted and did not renew their season tickets, good no them, Trevor H, that includes you mate, I know how much it meant to you and Brian to see the games….Respect!

With regards to Norwich… it’s a 6 pointer. If Bruce’s price isn’t right on that one I think he’s stuffed before he gets started…. if he ever gets started.

Norwich weren’t that good at liverpool but you never know against us they might show up big time

Baloney, I think everyone expects to get a win at Norwich – they’ve spent nothing and defensively looked weak against Liverpool – however , we don’t look like we have goals in our team.

That’s the general affect you have on most right thinking people. Let’s be honest here, you’re an odious, half baked, under achieving little shrew of a man if ever there was.

We still haven’t heard from BZG either. Was it some bizarre hoax? I doubt it. More likely they couldn’t get the funding. Even billionaires sometimes want to buy things on credit. That’s how the Glazers bought Man U. But the fact that BZG haven’t said anything just adds to the conspiracy theories that it was a cover-up by Ashley to dupe NUFC fans and make excuses for Rafa leaving.

Or Ashley moved the goal posts. He does seem to be the most frustrating person on the planet. Even from what we know. His hiring of Keegan and Shearer to get on the good side of fans and then undermining the former and ignoring the latter. I just cannot work him out. Now going back to the Carr-Charnley-McClaren model. We have to hope and pray the new Steve is better than the old Steve. Won’t get fooled again!!!!

Charnley’s not the brightest light on the street, but then if he was he wouldn’t be working for Ashley, constantly trying to put out fires and explain the obvious. And if he were brighter he would be dangerous for Ashley as he’d have original thoughts!
A one-man “board of directors” answering to a dictator in the 19th richest club in the world! Crazy!
