Pundit Gives Newcastle Fans A Reason For Optimism

Newcastle have a massive opportunity to settle some of the tension on Tyneside with a win against Norwich on Saturday.

While the performance against Arsenal was a mixed bag, the team is still working to get comfortable with Steve Bruce, his tactics, and each other.

Alan Shearer in his Sun article this past weekend rated Newcastle’s overall performance as poor. Though he did recognize some positives from the game, he saw problems with Newcastle in the final third.

BBC Sport pundit Mark Lawrenson did see the same issues; however, he thinks Newcastle will do well against Norwich on Saturday.

This is a bit of what Lawro has said about Newcastle in his prediction of a 1-2 victory for the visiting Magpies:

The Magpies could maybe have done a bit more going forward but, although I think Steve Bruce is going to take a bit of time to work out what his best team is, I don’t think they are going to struggle.

Mark believes that the way Norwich City played against Liverpool on Friday is going to be a big problem for them this season. He described their defending as being at a “League One” standard.

We thought Norwich City were very naive against Liverpool and paid the price. However, this is the way Norwich manager Daniel Farke is going to have them play. If Farke had Norwich play that open away to Liverpool, then Steve Bruce will know what he faces on Saturday.

It will be interesting to see if Bruce tries to get out on the front foot against Norwich or plays a more counter-attacking style away from home. We get the impression that he will try to take it to Norwich so we can expect a very open game.

Mark Lawrenson recognizes that it is still early goings for Newcastle at this point. Steve Bruce does not know what his best eleven are, and there are still five new signings to bed into the squad.

A 1-2 win away would be just fine with us. Even better would be if Joelinton and Almiron were both able to get their first goals for the club. That would further help to ease some of the pressure our two strikers as well as Steve Bruce.

    Jib,
If not building a training complex shows a willingness to sell then why on earth was he shelling out 61M on untested players. If he was intending on selling as you claim what difference would it have made if Rondon had no sell on value. What do you think makes us more attractive to a prospective buyer, Rafa Benitez and Rondon with a team aiming for eighth or Steve Bruce and Joelinton with a team 90% of journalists and pundits are predicting for the drop.

I was not filled with any optimism after watching the match on Sunday. Poor match, I think most people would realise that but it was hardly a full strength gunners team. Worrying times me thinks.

    Spellcheck worrying times indeed.
Why were the players that were signed not brought in straight away? This is the same every year.
Bruce was up against a fight to begin with but howare man if your going to back a bloke back the bloke properly.
Hopefully the lads get a result against norwich, we need to make a statement on the pitch, quell these fears.
Hopefully all can get up to scratch quickly.

Got a bit of a down day so just reading Mondays Guardian
”If it hardly bodes well for Bruce that the chaotic preamble to that goal involved him screaming ”what the foot is happening’ as his new Netherlands left back replaced Jonjo Shelvey and immediately started charging around in midfield”

Please lads just ignore Baloney, a wum thrives on you replying to him, look at welshgeordie9’s new creation Bruce, if you ignore him he gets bored and goes back to pulling legs off spiders, if you care that much about spiders then by all means reply to him to prevent him from carrying out that callous deed.

I think one of Mike Ashley’s big problems in business
is , he flies by the seat of his pants , often makes quite
    important decisions on a whim.
His big problem with Rafa was he wasn’t a yes man
just grateful for his wages and prepared because of that to
    keep his gob shut.

    In the wider world

    Neil Wilson at Markets.com said
“The shambles at Sports Direct is an endless tale, as long and convoluted as an Anglo-Saxon saga, the latest discussions with the UK government about appointing a new auditor, is a sign of the complete and utter lack of control at the top.”
Ashley continues to snap up struggling UK retailers, including clothes retailer Jack Wills earlier this month. But he faces growing doubts among investors about his ability to turn around the brands.

My vested interest and passion for NUFC is fading. Thanks Mike…….

Can’t even be bothered to read the Blog properly anymore. The skimming through of football opinions, accusations of alts & shills and general electronic handbags cannot distract from the fact we are a badly run club, with a poor reputation and only a glimmer of hope (to remain in Prem purgatory).

Good luck, HWTL but more importantly, wake me up when this broken record starts to play properly again…………..

All you have to do is look at what he has done to rangers. And he didnt even own them.
Maybe 8 percent at one point?
They are potentially going to go bust again.
This is due to ashleyclause and his many clauses he has them trapped in.

Exactly, the books may be whiter than white but where is the money?
A club with 1/5th the size of ours can improve year on year.
    Yet we stagnate what gives.
There is no investment in the youth of this area from Ashley’s version of nufc.

It’s not even worth mentioning the top 6 teams training grounds as they are way beyond anything Newcastle could (would) build

It’s not only on the pitch we can’t compete with mid-table teams

Who’s going to let the cat out of the bag first?

Once the Chronicle or whoever drops the 2 atomic bombs they have I’ll be surprised if 20000 go to SJP, itll be all out war on the regime.

That’s why the story hasn’t came out.
