Steve Bruce Gives Reason For Allan Saint-Maximin Missing Training

In his press conference for the Norwich match on Saturday, Steve Bruce has given an update on injuries. There is a bit of a surprise inclusion to the injury list. That is that Allan Saint-Maximin is suffering from a hamstring problem.

It was noticed a few days ago that Allan was missing from the training photos the club had released. It appears that after training earlier in the week, Allan had some hamstring discomfort and he was kept out of training the past few days.

In those photographs, we also noticed that Jonjo Shelvey was involved. He had been substituted with a knee problem against Arsenal.

This is what Steve Bruce has said about both Shelvey and Saint-Maximin:

“I think Jonjo Shelvey’s going to be OK, touch wood. At this moment, we have a problem with Saint-Maximin – we don’t know how bad his hamstring is but it was a bit tight after training on Monday or Tuesday. We’ll see how he is today.”

It would be a bit of a blow not to have Allan Saint-Maximin available for the Norwich match. He was able to come on in the final thirty minutes against Arsenal and cause them some problems. However with it being a hamstring, he should not be risked at all if there is any doubt whatsoever.

Steve has also given the following update on Andy Carroll’s progress:

“He’s done a bit of running on the grass. He’s still four or five weeks away, but I’m sure he’s going to have a big part to play.”

Four to five weeks is about the timeframe that had been recently reported for Andy’s return. It was said that the September 14th match at Liverpool was a target date. It appears that he is progressing well and let’s hope he makes his return for Newcastle in that game at Anfield.

When will the brains trust realise that the fans displeasure comes from more than Rafa leaving, that was just the final straw for some

Trying to smear Rafa after he’s gone looks weak and pathetic and shows how out of touch they are.

Makes me wonder if these rumours are true and Ashley is bricking it.

Personally I doubt it as he’s shown himself to be a sociopath, but anything that threatens his only love in life Sports Direct will get him to act with speed.

Steve Bruce says he did bring on Jetro Willems in central midfield last week but changed his mind “very quickly” because it was “unfair” on the player. Willems was moved to left back within one minute of coming on & was one of those at fault for Arsenal’s winner one minute later.

One man’s smear campaign is another man
    telling it like it is.
To be frank I was quite surprised at how little support
Rafa got from the players when he left.
In my case it’s the scales falling from my eyes and realising
the idol had feet of clay.
Rafa’s lack of communication at seasons end left a sour taste

17 games lost. which is average for finishing 13/14th

but to me its not how many we lose, its more the manner in which we lose. to me the guy is / was very limited in the way he thought, to him he banged on about goal difference at the end of the season, and in his world, the ONLY way to have a good goal difference was all out defend against everyone, maybe try and attack for the last 10 mins.
21% possession vs Man C i could accept if the next game home vrs cardiff, brighton, west ham at home we had 55+% taking the game to them,, pick your battles, but no,, we were very predictable in every thing we did under him, team line ups, formation, substitutes, sub timing, down to what he said after the game,, THE FANS WERE AMAZING

Bruce is already a major step up in many areas

That Blackcloud mostly posts complete and utter rubbish on his Twitter – if there were any truth at all to any rumours on there it’s highly likely that people would sell to the press rather than some random guy with a couple of thousand followers on twitter – Sorry but don’t think people have hopes on getting Ashley out by believing anything on that account

Bruce is a major step up from Rafa… Really???? He proved that in his 1st game replacing Shelvey with Jetro. Tactically clueless is what he is. His Premier league record alone says it all.

Is it allowed to exchange a squad member for another one if there is a long term injury to a player?

It’s always the grass that’s to blame for the injuries or the lack of better quality grass at the new Training Centre which Ashley has yet to sanction.

Why not let Andy Caroll and St. Maximin train at SJP after all it’s that new fangled techno grass stuff.

Rafa has never had a rapport with his players at any club; that’s one of his strengths being able to get the best out of players without being too close.
His silence at the end of his contract was that of a man who was moving on from this pathetic regime.
Rafa saved Hayden’s career and I think he and the other players are desperate to support Bruce rather than have a go at Rafa but let’s face it, they’re not skilled communicators and often put their foot in it.
Still can’t believe there are Rafa doubters after the way he galvanised our club. What you saw on Sunday was what we’ve lost; no flags, no atmosphere, no clue, no win!
    Happy days!

    Moonraker,

Rafa never won in the first 10 games last season and even after that our home record for a time was one of the worst its ever been in the Prem.

Not calling Rafa, just stating a fact.

Losing at home to a top 6 side isn’t unique to Bruce.

Bruce has set his stall out to play 352 but I wonder how many loses will it take for the safer option of 442 away will be utilised.

With all players fit it would be possible to go with 433 at home in possession of the ball, but I can not see Maximin dropping back to defend in a 451.

Hopefully the Championship Coach can pick up the reins from the previous Elite Manager.

Catchy you are accusing Jail of being blinded but so are you in your hatred for Benitez, he is gone so why are you still going on about him, to say Bruce is an improvement is ridiculous his record proves he isnt, he has won nothing in the game, villa fans, mackem fans all hated him, you are simply stating this as we have now got a WORSE manager in charge of the team, you are going down the same route as when your previous manager you hated (Pardew) left, you defended MClaren to the hilt until it was too late

It had been yet another summer of turmoil with our number one target coming in late and unfit, once Rondon was fit we were up and running, how are you meant to have a functional football team with Joselu leading the line?
