Newcastle Need To Find Answers Fast As They Trail 1-0 At Carrow Road

Norwich started on the front foot at Carrow Road and were all over Newcastle in the first half. They would fashion three excellent chances early on. The first required a terrific save at his near post from Martin Dubravka on a Todd Cantwell shot in the fifth minute.

A couple minutes later Pukki would collect a cross in the box but drag the shot wide of the post. He would get another chance a little later as Dubravka was again able to make a near-post save.

Newcastle would get some golden opportunities against the run of play. The first had Emil Krafth chest down a Ritchie pass in the box, but lacking composure, he fired the ball over the bar for a Norwich free-kick.

Martin Dubravka– keeping Newcastle in the game

Isaac Hayden was Newcastle’s brightest player, other than Dubravka, and made some tricky runs down the right.

He managed to put a couple of threatening crosses into the box, one of which Joelinton would head just wide. It was a chance he should have buried and could have changed the course of the game.

Newcastle just did not mark Norwich striker Teemu Pukki well at all, and it ended up costing them. He volleyed a weak clearance into the back of the net in the 32nd minute for the lone goal of the half. Martin Dubravka was able to get a hand on the shot but couldn’t to do much about it.

Newcastle have been completely dominated by Norwich who have enjoyed the bulk of possession and pulled all the strings.

There are only two attacking options on the bench for the Magpies in Sean Longstaff and Yoshinori Muto. Steve Bruce will have to find some answers at halftime or it’ll two opening losses for the boss.

Newcastle can still get back in this and salvage a result. They need to wrestle away some of Norwich’s control in the midfield and create more chances for the front two.

Again, I repeat Hayden – last season;s wantaway – is the only one who has maintained standards from last season.

Absolute professional and great guy he is. Ritchie too has put in the effort but has been poor for quality.

    The rest have been shite.

Almiron and Joelinton at £60m looks very expensive.

Almiron is certainly no HBA as some billed him. Nowhere near as talented. He;s a bundle of misdirected energy and his strengths are certainly not being played to today.

As for Joelinton, early days but he doesn’t look up to scratch for the price tag and I think he;s already realising that himself. Doesn;t fancy it.

    Hurry up Dwight and Andy!

We’re going to need you if we stand any chance.

If Almiron was playing for Norwich he would be ripping us apart. The Norwich style of football would suit Almiron.

All we do is pass it to the wings for Ritchie to cross it in (or attempt to cross it in), no plan B.

Cant watch any more of this crap. My 10 year old nephew’s school team have more urgency, co-ordination and desire than this. 2 matches in and you can already tell we are gonna e fighting relegation we have a manager who is clueless and has no chance of ever achieving anything and our new re ord signing couldn’t hit a barn door. This is too painful to watch, cant see me watching many more matches this season, its too depressing and watching the way we play just makes me angry. Ashley out and bruce out

Called Krafth as an odd signing when it happened.

    Pointless £5m spend.

Yedlin is by far the best RWB we have. Far more dynamic a player than Manquillo or Krafth. 1 vs 1 with a winger he can beat any for pace, also helps him recover on the counter. Going forward it’s no comparison. Odd rash tackle but so what, least he has fight.

    Pukki hat-trick.

    BRUCE OUT!

tactical master class from cauliflower heed. 5-3-2, massive gap between midfield and forwards no one to transistion ball, almiron isnt a striker he should be between midfield and forwards, joelinton far to isolated to do anything at all, midfielders far to wide apart hayden almost playing right mid leaving shelvey outnumbered and hes not the best getting around pitch anyway complete shambles in defence … and theres the 3rd. bruce out, tapeworm out.
all the pundits who said bruce was a good manager but still tip us to lose at norwich the proof is in the pudding hes shite stop patronising the geordie fans you mugs.
