Steve Bruce Is Blunt But Accurate About Today’s Performance

One thing we don’t want to hear from Steve Bruce now is any excuses about today’s performance. It was well below the standard required for this football club, and we can’t remember the last time a Newcastle team looked so hapless.

Thankfully, Steve Bruce has saved us from any futile attempts to explain away today’s performance, at least for now.

Here are some comments that Steve Bruce has made to BBC Newcastle.

“I’ve got to be ready for the flack which will come my way. And, to be perfectly honest, sometimes you deserve a bit of stick. I’ve got no problem with that because, today, we weren’t good enough.”

“We have to be better than we were today. We have to do a bit more. We had a couple of wonderful chances in the first half but let’s not cover over the big, gaping things – and the performance, as a whole, was disappointing.”

Shields Gazette has posted some further comments from Steve Bruce which share the same tone as those above.

“With and without the ball, we certainly didn’t do enough. We didn’t do enough with it or without it. We had a couple of wonderful chances that might have given us a spark.

“I feel as if I’m just disappointed with the manner of the whole thing. We’ll go to work again to improve. I wouldn’t question the desire. Certainly, we could do more in a lot of departments.”

This was the worst performance by a Newcastle side for some time. It harkens back to the McClaren days in its abomination. However, we will try to remember that we are just two games into the season.

Steve will have to go back to the drawing board with his tactics. He doesn’t seem to have the type of players fit for this formation.

Today’s performance was lacking to say the least. It was an aimless, perfunctory display and a regression from last week’s game at Arsenal.

What concerns me is the players have gone from looking like they’ll die for the shirt and manager, to looking like they couldn’t care less.

I’ll bet Ashleys on the phone to Hoffenheim asking for his money back .

“But I gave you £40 million pounds and it’s broke down on its 2nd trip out ! ( motoring analogy).

See Ashley, that’s what happens when you let Charnley play football manager .

Rafa said he didn’t want Joelinton ..not because Rafa was thinking of leaving as you said Ashley, but because he genuinely thought Joelinton was not good enough and not worth the asking price.

When you dealt with Rafa Ashley you were dealing with an honest man ..you should have listened.
Saved yourself 40 million quid and another relegation.

Where are all the Rafa haters and detractors this evening ?

Seriously , where are you ?

Newcastle would never announce transfer fees. Hoffenheim havent. I guess the media are looking at a possible final figure with add ons. Up to £40m, probably starting at 23 million up front

    Garbled nonsense.

Couldn’t fault desire, but we could do a lot more with and without the ball?

Shelvey was literally walking, ground to a halt hands on knees bent over just watching 3 Norwich players pass it around 2 of ours 10 yards in front of him at one stage in the 1st half.

Many other times he was clearly putting in the bare minimum effort to recover his position and wasn’t demanding the ball and following the ball as a playmaker should.

This casual attitude is already set in the teams mentality. Who is responsible for that rapid regression? You, you carbuncle faced twat!

Such a contrast to recent seasons.

OLG, If you think he has paid £40 for Joelinton you are very naïve, and I don’t think that you are. This will be another one of his smoke and mirrors tricks.

Who is going to pay £40 million for a centre forward who doesn’t score goals and has no experience in the Premier League. Pull the other one it has bells on it!

    Stuart Webber anyone ?

    Or Peter Kenyon .

Has Ashley been trying to sell St James Park to a sponsor on a 4 year deal?

Is he trying to move our second string into the Scottish league ? All rumour.

Maxmillion, JoeLoss injured my arse – been here 2 games and cannot get out quick enough.

Bet we have a boat load of ‘injuries’ this season – players not fancying playing unlike the RAFA years when we had hardly any injuries

Hell today why did Buster bloodvessel Bruce drop Manquilla when he has been excellent in all the games he has played this season.
And Longstaffe yes was playing poorly against Arsenal but dropping a young kid after one game not going to do his confidence a power of good

Well, I thought with this squad and the tightness drilled into them by rafa that they would finish above 17th. Now, I dont see Bruce keeping them up. I knew he was a bad manager, but even he couldnt turn it into a disaster. He looks like he is out of his depth. The british media love him though

Well I could fault desire with a few of them! I’m just so sad and numb to what we have become. Hayden seemed at times to be our “creator” I’m just so confused every time I watch us now, not sure who’s doing what.
Ron Knee paddy power hit the nail on the head, only FCB and his absolute disgrace of a side kick couldn’t see how it would pan out.

Joelinton got off to a flyer last season, scoring 4 and setting up a similar amount. At this point everyone was thinking hr might be the next big thing. Strength, height, pace, goals. So we offered 36 or thereabouts and they refused. Throughout the remainder of the season he’s only got another 3 goals and little assists. By this point the interest has died and theyve come back to us offering him at the same price. They’d have accepted 25 I’m sure.

Bruce, sorry but yes most of the players played like they were looking forward to a night out.

But you choose the formation, you choose the players, you are the manager of NUFC, but last season as a fan did you not see Rafa leave a Shelvey out and play Sean and Hayden that changed our season?

We cannot play this 3-5-1-1 formation, not with Shelvey and that what’s Rafa realized last season, I would prefer Matty playing instead of bald eagle, at least he would some heart and run around unlike peanut.

For me we need to go with a 4-4-2, but that’s just what I feel, Bruce the price is not right and so are you as the manager, clueless, thoughtless and useless.

I think he’s still a good player. Just not a goalscorer and he’s never led the line the way we want him to. Crazy paying all that money for someone you aren’t sure can play the way you want. Unfair on joelinton in a new much faster league being asked to play a new way.

    Formation for next game 4-5-1
    Dubravka
    Manquillo. Lascelles. Schar. Dummett

    Ritchie. Hayden. Shelvey Longstaff. Almiron

    Joelinton

He needs structure at least! this 3-5-2 isn’t working with players this is an old fashioned formation went out with Nelson’s eye!

And the players really need to look At themselves today as they looked sluggish wouldn’t matter if Klopp had been manager today they weren’t at the races

I don’t think you will find that I was critical of Rafa. Odd times yes re a particular game.

Point though is this. NUFC should be able to loose a very good manager and replace him with another.
    We can’t.
In many ways Rafa created a false situation that was always going to end sooner or later.

From the mouth of our delightful owner, ” Businesses cheat that’s what they do.”
Why anybody would believe one word from a self – confessed liar and cheat is beyond me.

There are so many ways that Ashley and his whiz kid accountants can re direct money from the club whilst maintaining a scrutinisable balance sheet. He has also admitted to this when saying during an interview that clever accountants can make the books say whatever they want.
It is now blindingly obvious that a large chunk of the latest transfer spending will show up as transfer fees on the club’s books but will be heading straight into fat boy’s pocket. No wonder he wanted outspoken interferer Rafa offside so he could carry on with his skimming .
