There were not many performances in today’s 3-1 defeat at the hands of Norwich that could be classified as acceptable let alone good. The Magpies lacked determination and fight. In a second straight game, they failed to respond when conceding.
We thought Martin Dubravka did well to keep us in the game with some excellent saves in the first half. Isaac Hayden was also a stand-out for us though we just don’t understand where he was supposed to be playing.
Two golden chances by Krafth and Joelinton could have changed Newcastle’s fortunes but both lacked the composure to get their shots on target. The pre-season murmurs of where the goals were going to come from will be like sirens now.
Emil Krafth– showed some promise but had a tough debut
This formation is all wrong. The wing-backs are far too deep and the front-two are on an island unto themselves. Shelvey and Ki in the midfield failed to have any impact. We can even think of a successful tackle between the two.
Steve Bruce has his work cut out for him but he also needs to let the players know that this performance was unacceptable. It’s on to Tottenham next week in another tough away fixture. Maybe we can nick a result away at Spurs to get this turned around.
Who Was Newcastle's Best Player In 3-1 Defeat At Norwich City
- Isaac Hayden (42%, 326 )
- Martin Dubravka (20%, 155 )
- Jonjo Shelvey (9%, 72 )
- Emil Krafth (7%, 55 )
- Sean Longstaff (6%, 46 )
- Matt Ritchie (5%, 35 )
- Miguel Almiron (3%, 24 )
- Fabian Schar (3%, 21 )
- Joelinton (2%, 13 )
- Jamaal Lascelles (1%, 8 )
- Paul Dummett (1%, 8 )
- Ki Sung-Yueng (1%, 8 )
- Yoshinori Muto (1%, 6 )

Comment #1We fought to stay up with a below average squad and a world class manager. Now we have a below average squad and an even worse manager. We’re going to see plenty more embarrassing results in the future.

Comment #3Rafa’s great gift was getting the sum of the parts from very average players.
Bruce always says he doesn’t want to make excuses then promptly launches into a load.
Has Steve ” I don’t do tactics” Bruce already lost the dressing room or did he ever have them in the fist place.
We had players coached by a genius, now been overseen by a complete non-entity.
The club is shockingly unprofessional from top to bottom.
It’s almost as if Charnley picked the least popular person they could think of when they appointed Bruce and backed him with some really flakey over priced players.
I guess the key is how do you make someone become a willing seller…..BOYCOTT NOW.
Catchy, munster, Bills and bruce don’t you feel any shame at all for your continued defense of the indefensible in Ashley and Bruce.

Comment #5Not sure why everyone is moaning. We (most of us) knew this coming the moment Bruce was appointed. Be happy he at least had a CM on the bench today, that’s progress.

Comment #6The worst thing is our only attacking play seems to come from a Richie cross and even then we only have 1 body in the box to make the most of any decent one he puts in!
Missing Perez big time all those fans who were booing him and giving him abuse despite him giving 100% every week made him want to leave more than anything!!

Comment #7I really like the football Norwich play, if only we could play some attacking exciting football again.
Bruce certainly needs to get his formation right, shambles today.

Comment #8Can’t Bruce watch winning teams and see what they’re doing on the pitch? I know we don’t have the quality of the players compared to the likes of Man City and Liverpool, but just look at how they play. Look at their tactics. What they do when they don’t have the ball. What they do when they do have it. How they adapt their formation depending on the opposition.
Bruce seems to set up his team with no idea of what his players are doing, and the players are then clueless, and we look totally lost from front to back. Sigh.

Comment #15Before the game Soccer Saturday done a feature on Norwich’s manager and all of the staff and how its all organised and they just looked light years in terms of professionalism compared to us they had performance managers , player Liasons etc all these little things that give you an advantage! Family orientated club where the fans are important with clear paths to the first team and also play great football!!
The best thing is for us to be relegated and then Ashley leave to then let someone with a little vision and desire to run us properly!

Comment #16Bruce needs the sack now. Could I be overreacting? possibly. But how long can you let it go? Christmas, January? McClaren was kept on too long and we were relegated because of it.

Comment #18So Munster’s relentless but exceedingly brave criticism of our former manager and his approach now seems a little bit misplaced, no sheet Sherlock. Luckily with some of the clever moves in training Brucey has been given credit for and the players right behind him we should be able to attack on the front foot when we visit the new White Heart Lane next Sunday, it’s going to be a canny day out, shame I’ve got to spend 90 minutes of it at a football match.
As for catchy, can he ever be taken seriously, if he ever was, again on this forum.

Comment #19Bruce looked dreadful in his post match interview.
Shelvey. Rafa knew he does not have a position in the modern game. As Bob Paisley said of Glen Hoddle, Rolls Royce Engine, VW Beetle engine. Don’t get me wrong he’s tried and he will be a fit lad, but just does not have it I’m afraid.
You can pick a team where others compensate for his shortcomings. Or you could years ago.

They can’t sack, there’s not a person in their right mind who’d take the job. Maybe now the transfer business is done and they know what they’ve got they might persuade a firefighter to come in for around 6M plus a hefty bonus, mmm I wonder who would have done that.

Comment #25Look..Ashley isn’t going away..that’s a given now..even if fans force him out..we’re not at all sure if the next owner is gonna be any better or not..some of the interested parties didn’t have enough money for buying the club never mind the playes thereafter..no wealthy people are interested in buying Newcastle..they might have better opportunities elsewhere..what to do in this dire situation? force ashley for simple decisions that he should take..for instance..attend games with bruce out banners..thats the only thing fans can do in cureent situation..if he stays we’re relegated.

Comment #27People saying Rafa’s play was boring? He kept it tight at the back to prevent exactly what we saw today? How many games did we concede three goals last season? Bruce manages it after only two games. Do all the people who are glad to see Rafa gone think we’ll get a result against Man City this season with Bruce in charge?
Rafa is gone, I know, but I’m able to recognise what we did for us and how smart he was. Rafa won’t come back, but Bruce has to go. I was willing to give the bloke a chance but two games in and it’s blatantly obvious that he’s out of his depth. We need someone with a solid footballing brain to turn things around. Bloody hell, I’d take Wenger at this point.
