Paul Dummett was one of the first players to accept responsibility for Newcastle’s performance against Norwich. He gave an interview following the game in which he stated that it wasn’t good enough and every player needed to look at themselves in the mirror. Paul also sympathized with the fans who had to travel a long way to support the club only to be treated with such a terrible performance.
?? "We can't let our heads go down – it's a long season so we've got to keep on going."
Paul Dummett delivered some home truths after Saturday's defeat at @NorwichCityFC, but expects to see a reaction in training this week. #NUFC https://t.co/h8IjlWELlY
— Newcastle United FC (@NUFC) August 19, 2019
During his interview, Paul was asked why he thought it didn’t “click into place early on.”
He brought up the warm-ups in his response as he said:
“I don’t know, but I think from the start in the warm-up, it wasn’t right. The first five minutes, they were on top of us.”
Some have taken Paul’s comments as a criticism of the coaching staff. However, it was just a passing comment, and Dummett did mention numerous times during the interview that the performance was just not good enough. So we are not sure what to make of Paul’s comment about the warm-up not being right.
The Chronicle have published a response to these comments from former Manchester City and Aston Villa defender Micah Richards. Richards played under Bruce at Aston Villa.
This is what Richards has said about a player’s responsibility during the warm-ups:
“I think that’s down to being a professional. You can’t really put everything on the manager.
“When you go out as a footballer, when you cross that white line, you’ve got to have some sort of responsibility on yourself.
“You can’t blame a manager for that.
“The manager has looked at his squad, thought that was the best possible team for that game, and the players have to take some responsibility.
We don’t really feel like Paul was blaming anyone. He just mentioned that it may have affected the team’s start to the game. However, it is worrying that nothing seems to be going right for Newcastle right now.
Steve Bruce made two changes to the starting eleven for Norwich, and both ended up not working out. Sean Longstaff was replaced by Ki in midfield and Ki was anonymous the entire game until being substituted late for Sean.
Bruce also brought Emil Krafth on for Javier Manquillo, but that ended up being a poor selection as well. In retrospect, it was a tough debut for Krafth and will not have done his confidence any good at all.
Javier Manquillo will also be wondering what he had done to lose his place. Manquillo had been playing well and having the continuity of Manquillo at right wing-back at Norwich may have been a better option.
However, it was a poor performance all around. Now is the time for the team to try to get everything right for Tottenham, warm-ups and all.

Comment #2Hibbit. It’s important Charney doesn’t respond as he has much bigger problems to be spending his time on.

If you listen from 50 mins
You can imagine how Norwich’s celebrations at being back in the PL
could have an effect on the NUFC warm up.

Comment #6Sounds to me as though Bruce has already lost the dressing room. His lack of tactical knowledge would,nt of gone down well with the players either. Only 2 games in and he is already favourite to lose his job. Spurs away next, OMG, Im trying to think of where our first POINT will come from.

Having done the UEFA B license, Coever coaching in Holland, Futbol de Salao with Simon Clifford and a year training with Bordeaux’s youth team coach and enjoying quite a lot of success coaching U-6’s thru U-16’s and seniors, I’d like to think I could offer quite an objective and insightful input on different tactics, styles and strategies.
However, I really don’t need to have all the above to spot the difference between a multi trophy winning elite coach and a guy whose only top level highlights were finishing 16th and losing an FA cup final. Even the truly awful and preening Pardew fluked a 5th place. This is the fundamental thing people such as yourself Munster etc fail to grasp.
So you can be as pathetically sarcastic as you like and let’s be honest that dig was hardly side splitting, but just for the record, essentially Bruce ”doesn’t do tactics.” but does like doing long runs, telling his players he can’t fault their effort but next day says they didn’t put their boots on. Confused….. . . . you will be. Agent Bruce has only just begun!

Comment #8The whole performance was embarrassing on Saturday. The PL has moved on and left Bruce behind. It’s far more tactical than it ever was and he reckons tactics are overrated.
I definitely didn’t want Bruce but now he’s here I obviously want him to do well, but for me he is out of his depth. Frankly, I don’t think he has the nous to turn it round, but I’m happy for him to prove me wrong.
The problem is, I don’t know who Ashley could turn to as a replacement. Bruce wasn’t first choice regardless of what’s been said, so who is there? Long hard season ahead once again.

Comment #11Apparently Bruce has lost the dressing room.
I wonder how we know that has anybody been in the dressing room?
At least give the bloke a chance it’s only two games in.

Comment #18Bruce,s record in the prem speaks for itself. Why would it suddenly change. ? The worst points per game ratio than any manager since the prem lgs began other than Bryan Robson. I think we are all prepared to give Bruce a chance but judging by fans reactions it wont be much of a one.

Comment #22Not sure Bruce ever had the dressing room to lose if players are coming on the pitch with no idea of what to do, faking injuries and blaming warm ups.
Toxic at best………….
