Report – Newcastle Sent Scouts To Porto This Past Weekend

There is a report in Portuguese outlet A Bola that a Newcastle United were among a group of Premier League clubs that had scouts at Porto’s 4-0 win against Setubal on Saturday.

Newcastle have been linked with a few strikers who currently play for Porto over the past few seasons.

The most recent link was with Malian forward Moussa Marega, who Newcastle were reportedly tracking this summer. However, the player has a release clause of over £30m and is 28-years-old.

Another player that Newcastle had been linked is Ze Luis. Newcastle were reportedly interested in a loan deal for the striker when he played for Spartak Moscow in January 2018. However, the Cape Verdean international is also 28-years-old and just joined Porto this summer from Spartak Moscow in an £8m move.

The third striker that Newcastle have had past interest in is Cameroonian Vincent Aboubakar. Newcastle were linked with 27-year-old in the summer of 2017.

Newcastle most likely were not in Porto to watch any of these players as they no longer fit the policy of buying younger players. However, they may have been taking a look at some of Porto’s players that do meet the profile.

Incidentally, Porto manager Sergio Conceicao was linked to Newcastle’s vacant managerial job this summer before saying he was not interested. Porto was also knocked out of Champions League qualifying round last week by Krasnodar which is where former Newcastle midfielder Remy Cabella plays.

Hippo heed should be banned from managing football clubs after his England incident
He is below the minimum moral standards required

I can see why Jabba might think otherwise

    Neymar Real or Barca?

I wouldn’t touch him, even though it would be hilarious to see Bruce play him at left back.

The only out of contract player available from Porto
is the 31 year old Brazilian 6′ 6″ goalkeeper Fabiano

A little bit of analysis of the upcoming games, in case anyone is interested…

    [goal difference in square brackets]

    Two matches played already:

    Arsenal (H) – L [-1]
    Norwich (A) – L [-2]

Next 8 games, including EFL game thrown in – my guess on result and goal difference included:

    Tottenham (A) – L [-3]
    EFL Cup: Leicester (H) – L
    Watford (H) – D [0]
    Liverpool (A) – L [-3]
    Brighton (H) – W [+1]
    Leicester (A) – L [-2]
    Man Utd (H) – L [-2]
    Chelsea (A) – L [-2]
    Wolves (H) – L [-1]

One of those losses, I’m going to say we might actually sneak a draw, so…

    10 games, 5 points [-15]

On paper, the easiest four games from the above, in order easiest to hardest, my guess would be:

    Brighton (H), Watford (H), Norwich (A), Wolves (H)

So the 4th and 6th games of this season (out of the first 10), it would appear we absolutely HAVE to get at least one win in these two games, if not in both. If we lose both of those then we may well end up on less than three points after 10 games.

Last season after 10 games we were 3 points [-8], in 19th place. The teams above and below us were on [-17] and the team on [-8] was in 16th (Southampton).

Again last season, after 20 games we were up to 18 points [-12], so a gain of 15 points in that second set of 10 games with a GD of [-4].

Second set of 10 games this season:

    West Ham (A) – L [-2]
    Bournemouth (H) – D [0]
    Villa (A) – D [0]
    Man City (H) – L [-3]
    Sheff Utd (A) – D [0]
    Southampton (H) – W [1]
    Burnley (A) – L [-1]
    Palace (H) – D [0]
    Man Utd (A) – L [-3]
    Everton (H) – L [-1]

It’s not an optimistic set of predictions, probably we’ll get something more than that. Let’s say an extra 3 points from somewhere, so…

    Second set of 10 games, 7 points [-9]. Total points from all 20 games = 12 [-24].

Based on last season that would leave us in 19th place, 2 points ahead of Huddersfield [-23], and 2 points behind Fulham [-25]. Interestingly exactly in between in terms of goal difference, albeit Fulham and Huddersfield the wrong way round in terms of GD.

The frog aka Haymarket Man knows nothing about the geography of the place and knows nothing of nufc songs and thinks Mags is a pejorative term for nufc fans. Never comments on the actual football. Ho ho. Yet about 20 halfwits on here listen to him repeating himself 50 times a day. The blog is gone to pieces.
