Defender To Give Up International Football To Concentrate On Newcastle

Paul Dummett has told Welsh International manager Ryan Giggs that he will forego playing for Wales to concentrate on playing for Newcastle.

The 27-year-old defender has had a rough time with injuries recently. He was injured playing for Wales last November in a game against Denmark.

Paul made a similar decision in 2017 when he made himself unavailable for international selection. Then Welsh manager Chris Coleman made some stern comments about Dummett’s decision at the time. This is what Chris Coleman said at the time:

“Paul Dummett doesn’t want to play international football, which is a disappointment from our point of view.

“But he has made that decision, and we have to abide by that.

“We will get on with the squad of players, the squad who want to play and represent Wales.

“There’s nothing we can do with Paul who’s decided that international football is not the path he wants to go down.

“Sometimes you have to be patient, especially because the team we have at the moment has been hugely successful.

“It is a shame because he’s a good player.

“I haven’t spoken to Paul. His agent rang me up to give me the news.

“I was disappointed, but if he doesn’t want to persevere with it, then that’s his choice. We’ve got to look after the players who want to play for us”.

Ryan Giggs seems to have taken the news a little bit better than his predecessor.

Here are some of the comments Ryan Giggs has made about Paul as published in the Chronicle:

“I spoke to Paul, and he really wanted to concentrate on club football. I think that will be it.

“He felt that he’s had a lot of hamstring problems, so he just felt he wanted to make sure he was fit for Newcastle.

“That was it really.

“I’ve got centre-halves who are playing, and I was considering him for that centre-half position, but it’s not a problem.

“Obviously he’s playing in the Premier League, and he’s a good defender, but I’ve got options, so it’s not a problem.”

Though born and bred in Newcastle, Dummett qualifies to play for Wales through one of his grandfathers. Paul has always been committed to Newcastle, and he will be so proud to be such an integral member of the squad. He has started the first two matches this season and been one of our better players.

Charnley first tried to get Jetro when he came over to SJP
to watch his mate Gigi Wijnaldum play.

OP – Posada, Still waiting for a answer. No boycott has been called, so who are you going to blame for the poor turn out and lack of atmosphere against Watford?

How can anyone answer with a reason for something that hasn’t happened yet??

    It’s like me saying…

Who are you going to slap on the back if Jo or Al score in the first five minutes and the crowd goes daft.

    Mind,

What’s really daft, is OP’s daft question.

Jib, who would you rather have making the judgements on who may or make it as a player in the Premier League?

Option 1: An acknowledged elite-level coach with a Champions League winners medal and decorations from all levels of the game and from every club he has managed?

Option 2: An over-promoted, under-paid pen pusher with no experience of judging the merits of a player, other than what he’s picked up on the job?

You cannot really compare the two, surely?

Besides, I don’t blame Charnley for making poor player decisions (no judgements yet made on any of this Summer’s recruits), I blame Ashley for creating the climate in which he has to make those decisions, despite not being in any way qualified.

Jib, that’s what a Scout should do, he should recommend good players.

You then need an experienced Manager or a coach with a good Director of Football to make sure that the players who best fit the footballing philosophy of the club and the coach are brought in.

At the minute, we’ve got a Head of Recruitment doing a no-doubt stirling job, but then Ashley’s minions picking the ones who have the best resale potential.

That’s not the way to build a successful team and I defy you to argue the point.

Kenedy was class in his first season with us, nobody could have predicted his fall from grace.

Instead of sicknote Sturridge, we got sicknote Carroll instead.

Not sure we should have been looking at either, but I’ll get behind either one of them when they’re on the pitch (from my armchair or the pub, obviously)
