The Return Of This Player Could See Changes At Tottenham

There are reports that Allan Saint-Maximin returned to light training on Monday and he could feature in Sunday’s match at Tottenham.

Though with it being a hamstring problem, Bruce will want to be careful with 22-year-old. He should not risk Allan unless he has completely recovered. The last thing Bruce needs is a long term injury to a forward when we are short on options up front.

Joelinton should also be available after leaving the Norwich match with a hip injury. The scans performed on the hip showed no serious damage.

Allan Saint-Maximin– could be back for Sunday

Steve Bruce had said after the Norwich game that all options would be looked at going forward to bolster Newcastle’s attack. Luke Edwards in the Telegraph noted that Steve may even revert to a flat back four to get the attack going.

Other than the first twenty-five minutes against Arsenal, the Newcastle attack has been impotent, to say the least. Yoshinori Muto even spoke about how he felt isolated when he came on for Joelinton against Norwich.

“It was really hard. I felt isolated, and I was always surrounded by three or four opponents.

“As a forward, that was very tough. As a team, we struggled overall.

“When I was watching in the first half, I was expecting it to be difficult when I came on because Joelinton was struggling as well.”

Miguel Almiron has also struggled to provide enough support to Joelinton often dropping far too deep to be effective when Newcastle regain possession.

If Allan Saint-Maximin can make the trip to Tottenham, he will provide much-needed firepower for Newcastle. Maybe using him in a front three similar to how Benitez had the team set up would help create space in the final third.

That would require the removal of one of the three central midfielders. If that happens, Bruce may want to consider using Sean Longstaff and Isaac Hayden similarly to their string of games together last year.

However, that would be hard lines on Jonjo Shelvey who has played decently in the first two games. However, Jonjo’s lack of defensive application often leaves Newcastle vulnerable in the midfield.

Whatever Steve Bruce decides to do at Tottenham, the most critical change we need to see is in the performance. There won’t be many Newcastle fans expecting a win. However, an improved performance is going to be the minimum requirement.

Hamstring injury, would rather rest him and wait than risk creating a nagging issue on our hands.

    Intriguing selection conundrum

Rail travel in and out of London will be a lottery this weekend

With both ASM and Atsu having hammy troubles
I’d be tempted to play Muto on the wing
of course if Bruce does go 4 – 4 – 2 then Matt Ritchie
can revert to his favoured RW role

    geordietom,
On what evidence do you think things will pick up. I think a few people are comparing our poor start from last year. We didn’t have our number one target fit last year, we do now and he doesn’t look too clever. We were also in every game last year bar Leicester where we were a shambles, we were 2-0 up at Old Trafford, drew level at City and had 29 shots at goal against Brighton, but missing a £40M striker to convert the chances. No harm in clinging on to hope but unless Bruce is sacked very soon then we are going down.

Anyone coming in now after Bruce you think would be an upgrade so that poisoned chalice is no longer there. I would not be surprised if a Chris Hughton type manager comes in, relatively unknown, yet will probably gain a good response as it is no longer Bruce.

There’s only one bloke who can keep us up this season who would manage us at the right price, it’s FSA and he’ll cost 8M pounds on top of the 1M to Bruce and 4M to Sheff Wed, jeez that Mike Ashley knows his stuff.

Get the fans on board? You mean those deluded by the whole he is from here sort of tosh?

I would rather have someone who knows what he’s doing at a football club ahead of someone who only has the job because of his allegiance to the club. Otherwise I would put myself forward for the job.

Sad reality is Ashley reportedly paid up to 4 million compensation and 1 million annual wage for Bruce. An extra few million would have kept Rafa, give him the rest of the budget that he has spent this summer and bish bash bosh.

Yes it shows Steve Bruce’s in-capabilities, however, a professional footballer not knowing their job on the pitch???

Na shouldn’t be professional footballers then. It would be interesting to see what Sir Alex Ferguson would make of those comments.
