Bruce Gives Update On Injured Duo Seen Training Earlier In The Week

Steve Bruce has given the following comments on the progress of both Andy Carroll and Florian Lejeune.

Bruce is right to temper expectations a bit as both Andy and Florian still have a lot of work to do before becoming match fit. Both have been out with serious injuries and should not be rushed back.

While neither are ‘around the corner’, they are getting that much closer to a return to full training. Steve has given a two to three-week time frame for the duo to return to start training with the team.

Florian Lejeune– will provide big boost when fit

This is sooner than we had imagined for Florian Lejeune. While he had no specific return date identified, a return to training in two weeks would be almost exactly five months since his knee injury on April 6th. So with a little luck, Florian could be available less than six months removed from his injury.

The two to three-week time frame for Andy Carroll to begin training is a little behind the target date of his return. That was reportedly the match at Liverpool on September 14th. We would imagine that he would require a few weeks to get match fit once he does start training with the team. With the game at Anfield in just over three weeks, that may be a little soon for Andy.

However, it is best to proceed with extra caution for Andy and Florian. When they finally do return, we want them to stay fit and in the team. They likely will both provide big boosts upon their return.

Looking forward to Lejeune and big Andy coming back into the team in my 30 years of being a black and white there’s two players that were sold who sent me into a sad state they were Andy Cole and Andy Carroll! When Carroll scores his first return goal it’s going to be unreal toon Army!

Ya didn’t mean Pickford… meant barkley. They also sold Lookman and Gueye this summer for near 50M more.

    Jibbley,
You really are clueless aren’t you. Henderson doesn’t score points, Cattermole doesn’t play football in the PL and Adam Johnson plays cards with your good pal Jimmy Saville.

We were linked with Wesley, don’t know whether it was a Rafa or club recommendation.

Jota though, heavily wanted by us in the championship. Always looked a player to me. Good half and that pass, absolute perfect weight on it.

Mmmm, new head coach, new language.

Is ‘around the corner’ the new ‘over the line?

Come on you all, stretch your mind and see how many Brucieisms or Bishop/ Ashleyisms to add to the ever-evolving lexicon of NUFC speak?

Even Noam Chomski’s taking an interest!

Andy Cole was sold in anticipation of the arrival of one Alan Shearer.

Andy Carroll was sold in the dying hours of a window in anticipation of £35m

Which sale came under Ashley’s reign?

    Lesh,
It was long after Cole was sold that Shearer joined! Cole left cause he knew he wouldn’t be first choice once the mighty Paul Kitson arrived! (and sir Les that summer)

My memory played a trick on me as I was confident that Cole left in the same window as Shearer arrived. I can visualise Keegan facing a crowd of fans, him asking them to ‘Trust me’.

However, it seems that Andy Cole went in January 1995 and Shearer came in in July 1996.

I’d still take those timings as indicating a planned upgrade. However, I ain’t up for an argument – let’s leave that to others eh.

Paul Kitson…… Now there was a player…. I’ve been told that Kitson was the main reason many a player joined the toon.

An international cult hero, loved from the streets of Paris to the cartels of Colombia. He put the Toon back on the map. Never believe anyone who says anything else.

Could’ve saved £18m and signed Wesley instead of Joelinton. Wesley seems a quicker player.

    Lesh,
I think Kitson arrived just after Cole left, Sir Les summer of 95 and Shearer summer of 96. Agaim, both Ferdinand and Shearer privately said they joined to follow in Kitson’s footsteps.

Not sure a planned upgrade, an awareness of Coles shin issues, and a hope that Gillespie would deliver on his promise. Looking back, I’d Sir Les over the Cole that left us any day of the week.

    Munster,
Rafa saw you in your knee high white socks, sandals and 70’s football shorts with that gormless dropped on your head as a kid look on your face and swerved you, probably sensed you were going to ask him why he never attacked against the mackems, your hatred increased since then and you’ve harped on to your lad as to why he should support Lpool because of it.
