Darren Bent Says Newcastle Striker Should Have Spoken To Bruce And Not Press About Being Isolated

During yesterday’s press conference, Steve Bruce gave a terse response to what Michael Chopra had said earlier in the week. He also referenced the media storm over Paul Dummett’s comment on the warm-up before the Norwich match.

There were some other comments made that didn’t quite get the attention. They were by substitute Yoshinori Muto, who after the game against Norwich, said the following:

“It was really hard. I felt isolated, and I was always surrounded by three or four opponents.

“As a forward, that was very tough. As a team, we struggled overall.

“When I was watching in the first half, I was expecting it to be difficult when I came on because Joelinton was struggling as well.

“Pukki got a hat-trick, and he reacted well on the counter-attack.

“It is the sort of image that I’d like to provide for my team.”

As with the situation with Paul Dummett, we don’t believe that Muto had any sinister motives in what he said. He was only relaying his experience of the match when asked about it. His comments were very accurate.

Though in these times of ultra-scrutiny, his comments caused a little bit of a stir. Though nothing to the extent of Chopra’s or Dummett’s.

Darren Bent in Football Insider has given the following response to what Muto said:

“It’s never good because it’s like he’s blaming Bruce’s tactics. I get what he means by being isolated.

“That’s something you have a conversation with your manager, say that the way that you’re playing, you’re not going to score goals. Him coming out and saying that, he’s putting a little bit more pressure on the manager.

“Then Newcastle fans will be like: ‘See, it’s Bruce’s fault, even the players don’t like his tactics,’ and it’s just another unnecessary problem that they don’t need.”

While we don’t think Muto said anything wrong necessarily, we also understand what Darren Bent is saying here. He is looking at the impact Muto’s comments have had on his former Sunderland manager.

He is correct that this is a problem Bruce does not need right now. Even if Muto’s comments were innocuous, they did cause a bit of a stir. Right now, even the slightest hint of criticism towards Bruce will be used against him tenfold. Some of it is justified, but some of it is just unnecessary.

Newcastle United’s hierarchy are currently making contract decisions on a number of key players – as they face one of the biggest overhauls of playing staff in the club’s recent history in the next 18 months. (Chronic)

    What could possibly go wrong?

I’ve got zero sympathy for Steve Bruce, he should not have taken the job, it’s bollocks about his hometown club, aak him if he was offered the man utd job would he fcuk off, right he would, as i have said before he walks away from here with many millions more in his poke, can’t loose.
His job is just to keep us in the division.
we deserve so much more than this.
NO DEAL, NO SYMPATHY, GET OUT.

Beefman@16 of course he HAD to take this job… Its his greatest managerial post…. we’re potentially one of the biggest clubs in the world.. If you were him would you heve turned us down? I certainly wouldn’t.. couldnt.
As I said earlier he’s definitely not for us but don’t make it personal… You can’t blame him for giving it a go, don’t forget, all this crap started 12yrs ago…

    Ashley knew about rafas situation.
He should of had bruce in earlier,
The players should of been brought in earlier just like every preseason.
And bruce and the lads should of had a proper preseason together.
The same problems arise at the club every year.
Past mistakes are never learnt from just made over and over again.

I’ll be watching the first 10 minutes of the Spurs game like a hawk.

Pocc will be telling his players to steam into us from the start, try to get a quick goal, get our heads down and effectively kill the game from that point.

Bruce should be telling us to press high, get some hefty early tackles in and to keep possession – with minimal long balls.

If I see us backing off, not closing down and hoofing it long we’ll be setting ourselves up for a hammering.

Bruce and the players know they have taken a barrel load of criticism after Norwich, they need to stand up against Spurs and show that last performance was just a bad day.

It’s not always about getting beat that draws criticism, it’s how you perform in getting beat.

We’ll see how much Bruce and the players want to perform in the first 10 minutes.

Steve Bruce’s comments about unfair criticism is laughable. He knew what he was walking into when he took the job. Gullible! Steve Bruce, or he thinks we are.

    bill,
Self pity already, what criticism has he had, if we’d lost and been unlucky against Norwich he wouldn’t have been criticed or if he hadn’t made a monumental foot up with Willems, what is he expecting.

Spurs are going to hit us like a sledgehammer out of the blocks, hopefully we can weather the storm and if it’s still 0-0 after 20 minutes or so we have a hope of getting something.

    I’m not hopeful mind you.

He has been reported as saying he has had unfair criticism in this mornings Guardian. He suspects “no one in the country” is under similarly, intense and hostile, scrutiny.

First time I’ve voted for us to lose in poll. I hope the lack of shape is just early season and lack of decent preseason.

We need Gayle fit as I don’t see anyone else being able to get us enough goals in the squad. Joe, Dwight partnership I can see getting us some goals. Carroll when fit as an impact sub.

It’s a funny set up with the fans. The ones who refused point blank to enter the stadium late are the ones who have no qualms in leaving ten minutes early if we go 2-0 down, the ones that won’t stand up if you hate Ashley quite happily boo’d Rafa and Perez while Mikey just sat there smirking.
