Newcastle Great Reminds Fans That Bruce Is Not The Villain

Rob Lee, who made 301 appearances for Newcastle United from 1992-2002, has taken to Twitter in defense of Steve Bruce. He has also tried to remind fans that Bruce is not the cause of our current situation.

Rob Lee makes a very salient point in these comments. Steve Bruce was offered the position and took it. While the way Bruce left Sheffield Wednesday was a fair point of contention, he has come in and got on with it. By all accounts, he has done a very admirable job in getting the players focused on moving forward.

Whether he can be successful, remains to be seen. While results are ultimately all that matters, he needs to be afforded at least a run of games before he can be comprehensively judged.

Bruce has been under constant scrutiny since the day he was appointed. The pressure has been ratcheted up tenfold this week with the result at Norwich. While we do think Bruce deserved some probing about the terrible performance, the extent and type of the criticism leveled at him have been extreme.

This week has seen him issue some regretful responses to some of the criticism aimed at him and his players, but it is understandable considering the type of criticism they received.

What Steve Bruce needs is some time and space to see if he is the right man for the job. Two games are just not an adequate enough sample size to concretely say that he isn’t.

While it is certainly logical to take his history into consideration, he should get at least a couple of months on this specific job to state his case.

Lee also goes on to remind us why this club is stuck in neutral, and possibly about to go back in reverse. The owner is the root cause of the problem. If Bruce fails, he can be seen as a symptom but nothing more. He needs to be given some reasonable amount of time before that is decided.

By reasonable, we don’t mean half a season but just a couple of months, or around eight to ten games. If we have only a few points after that, then it is logical to surmise that he is just not going to get it done. Rafa Benitez had the entirety of his CV to rely on during his poor starts, so should Steve Bruce.

With Benitez, it was reasonable to suggest that he could turn it around. It may not be with Bruce if he ends up in the same predicament.

Who would your front three be Ronaldo. Assuming they won’t risk Maximin. Muto or Atsu? There needs to be at least three attacking players in the 11. I was thinking 433 that could switch to 4231 with shelvey and Hayden midfield. Longstaff pushing forward. Muto and Almiron on wings.

To be frank, neither Muto or Atsu should even get a mention but that’s what we have.

If they can’t gel we have to drop Shelvey.

I’m sure rafa is enjoying life now a little more than when he was here. More money, check. Less lies and agro from those above him, check. Yeah I’m sure he’s struggling to get out of bed everyday, not.

Those Ashley apologists really have something wrong with themselves. Those that will revert back to wearside supportibg scum once their takeover happens.

Agree with someone else who said earlier that Ed / Neil should put ID verification on this blog, it’s quite easy to put phone text verification on to the blog and it would then be easier to stop all these stupid alts and hold people accountable for comments

Mindshaft they will never do that because it cost money. And they want as many accounts on here as possible even if they are duplicate accounts and fakes. More accounts more traffic, more traffic more ad revenue.

All this talk about fake profiles and fake profile photos does my heed in!
We have toon22 who is going on about gravatar yet has a photo of a cartoon frog? Jib having no photo bothers him?
It could be easily solved? Use an actual photo of yourself like I have and stop causing Ed and his family so much grief, Oh and if you want to use your real name then do it, It can be confirmed with a search on facebook as to who you are and if you are legit or not.

Jail for Ashley v Bills Son on the undercard.

Just a word about Chopra. He was gonna be the next super striker back in the day.
Unfortunately it did,nt work out and he moved on.
I believe he had a problem with drink/drugs also, but he was built up no end as a young man,so maybe the fact he did,nt make it as expected was the reason for this.
The man is Toon through and through which has got to be appreciated and is only saying what he feels.
Dont knock him for saying what he believes is true.
    Myself i agree with him.
Remember Adam Armstrong was gonna be the next big thing, same as Chopra was, where is Adam now?

Well it wouldn’t actually be my choice to go 433. Just thinking if Bruce is so adamant about 3 in the middle then we need to go 4 at the back. We don’t have the personnel to make the 352 work like wolves do.

But for arguments sake, go 433. Then if ASM won’t be risked then I’d put Ritchie back in on the right. Almiron left and joelinton up front with freedom to run the channels.

“Van dijk is a monster of a defender.”

according to statistics quoted on the radio commentary who was the last player to dribble past Van dijk over a year ago before an Arsenal player did it today? it was a Newcastle player.

I think Ritchie’s useless further up the pitch, but effective from deep. I can’t see Bruce wanting to risk annoying his generals at this stage. If he loses the changing room, he even more doomed. So I’d say if he opts for 433 Ritchie will be left back. And while Gayle and Carroll are out id go for Muto as he can link up better than Atsu who can just run fast.

Yeah I’m not ritchies biggest fan as right winger but he’s better than muto there who is a striker. I do like him at lwb though but at left back, I wouldn’t play him there at all. Especially when you have dummett available.
