Alan Shearer Impressed With Many Players Today

Alan Shearer has tweeted the following assessment of today’s performance.

It’s great that Alan has mentioned both Joelinton and Almiron in his tweet. Both had much improved performances. Especially Joelinton whose hold -up play was just plain awesome today. Miguel ran all over the place and looked very dangerous on the counter.

Local lad Paul Dummett deserves a special mention after his colossal display. He was absolutely immense at the back. Fabian Schar also had an excellent game as well. The lads really turned up for Steve Bruce and the traveling fans.

Steve Bruce’s set up worked very well as the Tottenham had difficulty breaking us down all afternoon. Well done to Steve Bruce and the entire coaching staff.

Don’t think we need cheap shots at other posters. I doubt anyone is upset we won today. Just enjoy the performance and win and the good mood on the blog as it won’t last long lol.

Hayden – Longstaff, no Shelvey, same last season, the begining of a good spell of form, hope it’s the same again.

Great game great result, felt a bit for Bruce in his interview with sky reporter with some of the questions he asked. 3 points in three games equaled last years after 10 ! Time to move on support the team no the regime HWTL

I spent the afternoon praying that England could work their magic. I then spent the early evening praying that the Toon could hold on. I’m bloody exhausted… but very very happy.

People on here are finally starting to realise Shelvey isn’t up to it. Apart from long range passes he is ordinary. Now replace Richie with a competent Wb and I’ll be happy.

I get the feeling a lot of people dont realise Longstaffs ability. His positioning and simple things he does off the ball always make the difference, I couldn’t believe ppl on here were saying he had a shocker.

    Great win.

IrishRob agree about Longstaff a lot of the time you don’t notice him as he’s doing the right thing.

Irish rob in the first quarter of the game Longstaff was not playing well and was caught in position a couple of times while also misplacing passes. Whatever he does off the ball is irrelevant if he is making basic errors in dangerous areas. After he hit the shot that was saved he seemed to settle down and then his all round game improved. Him and Hayden are definitely the way forward and I agree don’t see how Shelvey get a look in. Almiron was immense today also covered so much ground and his defensive contribution was amazing.

People hating on shelvey for me is ridiculous I worried last week this is gonna be the norm where the useless and slow ki got away Scott free hardly a mention on here let alone from the commentators in the match

This wasn’t a shelvey game but when we need to play more expansive and use almiron and the saint to there strengths you’ll all be saying we need someone to find them

Longstaff had a terrible game today by his own high standards but I’m not saying he shouldn’t play again infact if we can get longstaff shelvey hayden almiron maximum and joelinton as a forward line I’d be very happy

Shelvey best passer but Trouble with Shelvey is he wants to to everything and with doing that he slows the game down as he likes to take the ball off defenders and other midfielders interrupting the flow.

Fifa is investigating whether robots could replace assistant referees to make offside decisions, given they are already helping the video assistant referees. (Sunday Mirror)

Maybe they could get AI to replace owners as well.
    should be an improvement

Longstaff probably needs to get his head round the fact that he’s back and that there’s nothing to stop him getting back to the level he was at last season. Maybe a little hesitant to over extending himself as that’s what caused his injury but confidence will come back.

Agreed. even last season Shelvey would take the ball and dwell on it looking to pick out that one off pass. Those seconds are crucial particularly in high tempo games, blink and the chance has gone. ManCity and Liverpool tend not to blink.
