Allan Saint-Maximin Proud Of Most Important Thing – Victory

Steve Bruce got everything right today – almost. Starting Allan Saint-Maximin was, in retrospect, an unwise decision as he has re-aggravated a minor hamstring problem.

Allan lasted only fifteen minutes in what was a shocking starting nod at Spurs. The decision to include Allan in the starting eleven has proven to be a poor decision by Steve Bruce as he now could miss some time.

Allan Saint-Maximin has taken to Twitter after today’s performance. This is a really classy move by Saint-Maximin who will be devastated that he had to come off so early in his first start for Newcastle.

Saint-Maximin’s early departure turned out not to hurt Newcastle’s performance. Allan had started on the left-wing and Christian Atsu was a natural replacement for the Frenchman.

Allan Saint-Maximin– Steve Bruce’s reaction says it all

Christian Atsu came on and made an immediate impact. His performance was superb as he played his heart out today. He expertly picked out Joelinton on the break leading to Joelinton’s composed finish. Atsu’s performance was one of today’s many delights.

We really hope that Allan Saint-Maximin can recover quickly. Hamstrings are so delicate that we had hoped Newcastle would proceed with extreme caution with Allan. That wasn’t the case today, but you can bet that it will be going forward.

“I think the key thing is for this formation to work, you need the cms to cover a lot of ground. ”

definitely as you haven’t got a replacement for Perez in front of them.

Atsu is the most creative player in the team
Which in itself is an indictment of our transfer strategy
We did not need ASM or Kraft in this transfer window
We need an creative attacking midifelder

That said, well done to the boys especially captain Lascelles, Dummet , Joel and ofcourse Mr Atsu

Trouble is when you’ve got managers a few games from possibly being sacked they’ll gamble the long term health of the player and the club just to save their own skin. Same as Pardew and McLaren used to do. The decision to bring back a player should be on the physio to stop this desperate gambling.

“Well done Brucie, where’s all the Bruce slaggers now then.”

that’s because he went with the right formation. he deserved the slagging off the first 2 matches.

Best game Atsus ever had by far and how many touches did he have?. He needs to do it again to show it wasn’t the anomoly it appears to be. We really need him to “push on”. Do players still say that?

Your next check up must be coming up soon, let’s hope it’s all positive news.

As Neil’s missus said earlier the Harrison households were euphoric with today’s win so we on the blog will be hoping for a double boost.

I was surprised to see him make the bench today and so his contribution was that much more surprising! Long may it continue! 🙂

Aye, as Munster has said (and often got a right royal kicking for) credit where it’s due and criticism where it’s due.

    anomoly? lol
Atsu does this all the time
But fans seem to have short memories when it comes to him for some strange reason
The bar is set so much higher for him than it is for say ritchie or longstaff in the eyes of certain fans
    i wonder why

Krafht seems to be in the same position that Manquillo was (who incidentally should be 1st choice imo) he took a few games to really settle into the team but once he did he was more than capable.

I should think that Manquillo must be a little p!ssed off at the moment to have become 2nd choice.

    Missed the bus again!

Steve Bruce did what he should have done from the beginning; set the team up just as Rafa did. Defend in depth and hit on the break. If you have a limited team you have play that game.

We have difficult games to come and it will be interesting to see he approaches these games. The Tottenham game was easy to predict the tactics, against so called weaker teams the tactics might be more challenging.

Great win for us all. Something to smile about for once.

I never saw this result to be honest, but we seem to have some sort of ‘charm’ over Spurs.

I am so very happy for the points and Joe got his first goal.

I still think this is going to be a very difficult season though, haven’t seen enough of ASM or Joe to decide if they will offer enough.

Thpught Lascelles was solid with Swiss Cruyff.

Because his whole game is around attacking, particularly speed and dribbling, yet he’s lucky to get one goal, one assist per season. I used to say the same about Ritchie but he’s proved useful since switching to wingback. Or at least I’ve stopped expecting him to contribute going forward because in truth he used to play as a wing back when we named him a winger anyway.

    toonbrother,

I thought Atsu had a good game today. It’s probably frustration with most fans, that sometimes they expect too much, and when it isn’t delivered they voice their opinions.

Spurs never looked like scoring. Keeper didn’t have a tough day which shows how well our team defended. They’re nowhere near as good without Eriksen pulling the strings.

No attacking player could possibly look consistently good playing for an ultradefensive team like newcastle
off the top of my head i can remember at least 3 games last season in which atsu was brilliant

away vs watford where he took out 2 defenders in one move , passed to ritchie who crossed to rondon
    away vs everton
and the home win vs City

Atsu is a wonderful little player who effortlessly retains possession even when surrounded; has the ability to go past defenders and the skill and vision to create chances for others
The only downside to his game is his atrocious finishing

I do remember another good game he had to be fair, but he’s been here a while. And we attacked in championship and he was nothing special. We need goals now. I’d even be happy with a fat moocher who never comes back providing he could guarantee goals.

Brought a memory of shearer holding the ball up at the corner flag, running time down.
    Excellent 3 points.

People saying it’s a benitez performance today , I’ve been a critic of Bruce , but he got them tactics spot on today . Give the man some credit , people on here slag him the first chance they get. But give the man his due , in 12 away games against the top 6 we lost 12 , so let’s enjoy today , and forget our former manager , because he’s not coming back

What a day – shame I was in wrong end, toon fans were brilliant 11 / 10, away fans are so much better than at SJP
Spurs fan in bar said that was the 2nd highest possession by a losing team in prem history.. well he said a lot more but I was like what was the score again 🙂

Said before game we needed to drop Shelvey, good on Bruce for realising the team is built on defence and organisation and we just don’t have players who can press or be creative as a team.

If you think there’s whinging on here you should have heard the Spuds fans around me …jeez, talk about fickle – Kanes useless and needs to be dropped, Ericcsons a deluded c… and can just f off as we don’t need him, this players an idiot , no tactics blah blah – was hilarious

It’s a pity some are crediting Rafa for this win, Rafa is gone it had nothing to do with him. And ill go one further to say that’s the best defensive display I’ve seen out of them including Rafas tenure. To credit Bruce that is the strongest I’ve seen them in years defensively.

I’m beaming all day after it. As much as one win doesnt make him a quality manager, he deserves our support, I hope the attacks stop now because it’s clearly bothering him a lot.
