Opposition Manager Says Too Early To Worry About Bruce

Steve Bruce got some support yesterday from former Magpie Rob Lee after what has been a week of scrutiny for the Newcastle boss.

While Bruce should have expected some flack after the pathetic performance at Norwich, the toxicity reached peak levels in some circles. We feel it was a nice gesture for Rob Lee to offer some insight to Bruce’s situation.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has also given some insight into Steve Bruce’s situation at Newcastle.

Football.London have published all of the Spurs boss’s comments from his pre-match press conference yesterday.

When asked if he feels for Steve Bruce at Newcastle, this is how Pochettino responded:

“It is only the beginning, the Premier League is so tough and is so difficult. I have a good relationship with Steve. We are going to play them, but it is only the beginning of the season, no one can be worried.

“We are in a process, nearly all of the clubs, only Manchester City or Liverpool can say they keep all of the dynamic. The rest of the human people and clubs we try to find our best dynamic to try and perform in that tough league.

“We all need time to get the reward and perform in the way we want.”

We disagree with the Argentine that no one should be worried. There is a reason to be worried at the moment. However, it is all a matter of degrees. Newcastle are only two games into the season. However, we are looking three straight defeats dead in the eye, with a result at Tottenham highly improbable.

Steve Bruce– needs a performance today

Pochettino is correct that most clubs are still finding their way this early in the season. We certainly hope that is the case at Newcastle. After Tottenham today, we will face Watford at home in our next league fixture. Watford sit bottom of the league with no wins and a -6 goal difference.

If Newcastle can keep it close today at Spurs, we may still find ourselves above Watford going into the match next week. That is looking like a massive one, even though it will still be just the fourth of the season.

This is a big week for Steve Bruce. The lads must play better today, and get something from Watford next week. There is also the cup match against Leicester City on Wednesday which the team must do well in.

While we agree that Steve Bruce needs time, there also has to be signs that he can keep this club in the Premier League. While those are some pretty low expectations for a club of this stature, it’s where we find ourselves after a summer of disappointment.

Brucey has got things so wrong that Pochetino or whatever he is called isn’t bothered. That says a lot doesn’t it ?
Why don’t you take notice of how Rafa had the players doing and training instead of thinking that your way is the best when it OBVIOUSLY isn’t ? You will learn something while getting the best from the players and maybe winning some support from the Geordie nation . You can’t do any worse that you are now.

The team is more or less the same. We defended great whether it was 4231 or 352. Why change it at all? And has he really changed the defence that much? If anything all he has done is add an extra deep lying midfielder so they should be even more tight. Also when we switched to 352 we got better immediately. How comes we need to give Bruce ten games for his “changes” to take effect. It’s not like he’s switching from Benitez’s defensive counter attack style to an all out free flowing attacking style that you see from the likes of Farke.

    Cabbages out!

    Munster,
I want him to do well, but I’d rather they let me in control and I won the champions league while playing myself centre forward. But neither have any chance whatsoever of happening. So until things change, I’d just like a talented manager. If we get one who is going to struggle, I want to struggle playing attacking football and playing youths the way Norwich do. I can only accept defensive football if it works and if I see steady improvement like under Rafa.

Munster, giving Bruce a chance is like Souness at Southampton saying “We need to give Ali Dia 10 games” Sometimes the evidence is so compelling that you know from the outset.

As they referenced on Sunday Supplement it very much mirrors McCleish at Villa. Just an abysmal appointment.

Part of me wonders whether it’s a palate cleaner so the next guy is compared to Bruce not Rafa but that’s crediting Charnley and co with far too much competence, It’s not Machiavellian scheming it’s just the usual idiocy.

    Munster,
If we could lose 12-0 today and it meant putting Bruce out his misery and getting a decent manager, would you take that loss?
ps – I know Ashley will go for some flop like Mark Hughes, or try to embrace foreign managers by getting Flores or Garcia.

    Munster,
I regret giving McLaren that 20 game chance to prove he wasnt the wally we knew he was. If we’d hounded him from day one we might have got Benitez a few weeks earlier and stayed up. Each time we say nothing, Ashley thinks he can get down the scrapyard and bring another knacker in. This policy has to stop. Instead of going for experienced and english, we should ban people who are experienced and english (unless it’s Rodgers or Howe or an upcoming talent favouring the modern game). And unless that experience is being a success within the last two years and let’s face it we have zero chance of getting that type of manager.

Trying to trip people up by asking if they want us to win/be relegated/want Bruce to succeed is easy to answer.

When the ball is kicked off across the 90 minutes you want to win, kick every ball, hate the opposition. That’s being a supporter. Instinct. Emotion. That’s the heart speaking.

There’s no conflict with logically thinking that whatever it takes to expedite the removal of factors that are driving our continued underachievement would be welcome be it Bruce, Charnley or the slug himself.

No I’ve never wanted us to get beat. Ever. But I can see how not winning and not staying in the top tier could notionally be advantageous.

Nobody welcomes defeat within the confines of 90 minutes. Stop thinking you’re in a court and you’re Tom Cruise in A Few Good Men trying to get an admission out of Jack Nicholson! Ironically, you can’t handle the truth.
