The second half started very similarly to the first half with Spurs having all the possession. An early Matt Ritchie booking would see Tottenham get a free kick in a dangerous area but Erik Lamela’s delivery was poor.
In the 51st minute, Spurs would get an opportunity when a deflection fell to Lamela but Fabian Schar was lightning quick in his reponse as he slid in to block the shot.
Spurs would bring new-signing Giovanni Lo Celso for Erik Lamela and then Christian Eriksen for Kyle Walker-Peters in the 62nd minute. They would maintain their pressure but Newcastle again held their shape and were able to quickly close any windows.
Joelinton– off the mark for Newcastle
There was a worry for Joelinton who pulled up with what looked like a groin injury. After receiving treatment, he was able to carry on. Though, Jamaal Lascelles would stumble in the box and inadvertently bring down Harry Kane. Mike Dean said it was no foul but Lascelles was injured during the incident. Lascelles would later be replaced by Federico Fernandez after receiving treatment but not being able to continue
In the 80th minute, Moussa Sissoko would beat Matt Ritchie to get a cross into the box that reached Lucas Moura. Moura thankfully didn’t have his shooting boots on today as he put it over the bar.
Joelinton was replaced by Yoshinori Muto in the 87th minute. What a performance by our Brazilian number 9. He held up play superbly this afternoon and got his first goal for the club.
In stoppage time, Moussa Sissoko would again pull back a dangerous cross into the box. This time it reached Harry Kane who fluffed his shot.
What a performance from the lads! An unexpected win and we are absolutely thrilled with this victory!

Comment #4The way Krafth played we were effectively playing with ten men in that game, which makes it all the more remarkable. Absolutely stunning

Still remember the game away at Spurs when Krul had his master game and we got away with 1-0 win. This was better, Spurs today is a top European team.
Classic win.

Comment #12Maybe all the criticism lit something in Bruce and that translated into him working harder and the players much more rigorously.
All been a bit too casual and pally up until now.
That was the battling spirit returned.
No naval-gazing, have to back it up against Watford with another 3 or it will take the shine off this.

Comment #17Fantastic. Smash and grab. Everyone emptied their tanks today. Hayden the unsung hero in midfield.
Set a record 1000 shuttles right and left preventing spurs from getting any shot in.

Dubs had only 2 or 3 saves to make today too. The defensive units in front of him was as good as anything we saw under Rafa.
A bit of grace by Bruce mentioning that formation from last season wouldn’t go a miss, would help fan relations and might draw a line under it.

Comment #24I’ll be honest- I think Dummett is a very poor left back but he really has found his position in the 3 at the back. Been really good all calender year.

Comment #25I was probably the only one who said they were going to win. I just had a feeling. That was a better defensive display than I’ve seen in a long time, even better than the city match. They were so well organized and sooo soooooo disciplined and focus.
Huge congratulations to the lads and Steve. Fair play is all I can say. Soo Fùcking proud of them when they play like that, win, loose or draw!!

Comment #30Thought Atsu was fantastic today. Played a bit like Marveaux. Was good on the ball. Joelinton had a better game, but still lacks pace. Longstaff wasn’t great. Need to improve our passing. Hopefully it’s not a lucky win and we continue to get these results.

Comment #31Dummett a really poor LB? Boggles my mind some opinions on here. Defensively there are none better in the league at LB. Nobody ever got past him.

i thought so too but i think Kane too readily fell over Lascelles instead of trying to get the ball.
