Newcastle Show Fight And Grit But Fall To Leicester On Penalties

It was a very good performance from the lads tonight but they have gone down to Leicester City on penalties 2-4. This is a disappointing end to an excellent battle from the lads.

After a very solid first half for the lads, Newcastle would come out unchanged. Leicester City brought former Newcastle target Dennis Praet on for Hamza Choudhury.

Emil Krafth would be replaced through injury by Javier Manquillo in the 50th minute. It looks like it is only precautionary though Krafth did exit down the tunnel for treatment.

Then in the 53rd minute, Yoshinori Muto got a tap in goal from a Jetro Willems knock-down. We’ll not mention the theatrics though we will mention the kick from Fabian Schar.

Johnny Evans would replace Wes Morgan a few minutes after the goal. It was back and forth after the goal with both sides getting a few chances. One of note was Jonjo Shelvey’s long-range effort that was nicely saved by Kasper Schmeichel in the 71st minute.

Jetro Willems– fantastic effort tonight

Jetro Willems would come off for Paul Dummett in the 78th minute. He had been down earlier in the match and also went down the tunnel for treatment. This was a night of attrition for the lads.

While Newcastle spent the majority of the second half defending, they did it very well and were able to fashion a little in attack. Leicester City enjoyed the bulk of possession to close the half but didn’t fashion too many chances. Though Perez had one to seal a victory a few seconds before the final whistle as the game would go to penalties where Newcastle would go down 2-4.

Newcastle have a lot to be proud of tonight as they have given two excellent performances on the trot. We are a little concerned about the injuries that are starting to pile up. However, it was down to penalties tonight and the performance was a very good one.

Someone with Shelvey’s striking ability should NOT be missing penalties. Truly pathetic to go out on penalties

Solid display again and good to see our 2nd string do well against Leicester who fielded a full strength team

Nearly every pen missed by all players is close to a metre off the ground and placed.

If you aim for the back high corner of the net and hit it as hard as you can the keeper rarely saves it even he guesses right.

    I should know…

That;s how I took them and I never missed one in a competitive game.

    Honest!

    🙂

We cirtainly can’t out play teams but our strength is working Hard as a hard to break down defensive unit. So well done lads for the organised display.

Got to be happy with the performance. This was a strong Leicester side we played with a weakened side. Penalties are just a 50/50 chance, anything can happen.

Disappointing but only because we were so close, great effort, Leicester played a full strength side with us almost a second string, good signs and positives to take away

    – Matty longstaff debut ans by the sounds a solid game
    – Willems getting some minutes, setting up a goal and will only improve
    – Muto getting his first goal at home
    – Another game for the lads to play together and gel as a team

Can’t remember ever winning a penalty shootout. Sounds as though we played well. Leicester had a very strong team out. So I’m surprised we did so well. hope the injuries aren’t too bad.

Who are the d1ckheads that booed Ayoze Perez!? Seriously!? He was a great servant for our club and left in good terms and made a great video thanking fans to bid farewell, a nice gesture. And what do we do we jeer him!? What class from the best fans in the world! It pisses me off when players that leave in good terms are treated like this. Disgusting.

The defence seemed to do well. Does any teams practice penalties, we only have Richie! Then we never get them given do we??

“His [Sammy Ameobi] second goal for the club came two years after his first, scoring in a 2–0 victory over Morecambe in the League Cup. His brother Shola scored Newcastle’s other goal, making the pair the first brothers to score in the same match in the club’s history.”

I think the booing was more like Pantomime booing, it didn’t sound aggressive. It always happens.

Not sure a big thumbs up from willems as this posts picture is acceptable haha. Lucky to get 1-1against Leicester with that team.
Positive to take is that muto got a goal.
Schars penalty was pure class aswell. As for the rest? Wasn’t confident with any of them.
    Poor.
Bring on Watford with a stronger team

A lot of fans didn’t like Perez, and then he did want to leave. If it was a league game think it would have been different.

Unlucky tonight, fringe players gave a account of themselves, penalties meh lottery, as for Perez booing, so what, part & parcel, said he would leave for la liga or champion league outfit…

Booing Perez is banter. Thought he was going back to Spain? Then joined Leicester?
Thought Jonjo was poor. Caught in possession gave the ball away and then fouls needlessly to give away the free kick which leads to their goal.
Defence was excellent, didn’t understand punting the ball upto Muto? Glad he got a goal.
Well played Matty Longstaff. Thought Jethro looked like he wanted to go back all the time and as for his diving?? Didn’t look fit.
Beat Watford then couple of weeks recovery. Onwards and upwards.
