Fans Pleased With Performance And Highlights From The Match

Here are a couple of minutes of highlights from last night’s Carabao Cup loss to Leicester City.

While it’s very disappointing to go out of another cup so early, the lads did perform admirably. They faced a full-strength Leicester side and there was not much between the two teams.

Though Leicester had 68% of the possession, they only managed 3 more attempts on goal than Newcastle. It was a game of few chances that was ultimately decided by penalties.

Some fans took to Twitter to express their thoughts on the performance of the lads last night.

I think the naughty boys from Eton’s upper sixth
Rees Mogg and BoJo who came up with the jolly
    wheeze of proroguing parliament.
May have just committed political suicide

I ALWAYS want Newcastle to win but if it’s a choice of a win last night or Saturday well it’s simply a no brainer 3 points against Watford is my preference!

it’s wrong that we have to decide one or the other, why can’t we have both like other clubs ???
a squad fit for purpose would be a good start !!!!

The Watford game is the best team to measure against so far this season I think.

Arsenal – Top 6 team and we won’t realistically be competing against them.

Norwich – Newly promoted team, with not the greatest preparation for them.

Spurs – Top 6 too but much better prepared and organised. Hard to measure just how bad Spurs were though.

Watford – Probably the most similar to us from last season. Performed slightly better in the league but on paper I think they are about equal to us. Like us they have had a bad start to the season and will be up for it, however, the advantage of having our first win of the season on our belts could be the difference in confidence that could give us a slight advantage.

Also really pleased to hear from numerous people that Matty Longstaff did well. I think the Longstaff brothers could become an example of how good attitude makes you a better footballer.

They both seem like good lads and I really hope they make it.

I agree, that would be success.
However, we cannot compete at them levels given the lack of investment in the squad and club infrastructure. Every time we look like we are building toward that level Ashley intervenes to firmly put us back to the dogfight level.

Could be a good time to play Watford we were unbeaten against them last season but if Delefeou and Success could finish their dinner we might have been on the wrong end of a spanking in both games!

Probably going to be another game where we have limited possession but if we can start to create more clear cut chances then I don’t really have an issue with it

Dummett and Manquillo look like they will be playing the wingback roles both solid at the back but not offering much of an attacking outlet which might restrict us spreading the play on Saturday

Watford just beat Coventry 3-0 in the cup. I know it isn’t a league win, but it could give them a little bit of confidence to go on a run. I certainly hope not though.

Only 5 days lost really as they would have been stood down anyway. Besides, nice to have a bit of time without endless bickering. Hell, we’ve had 3 years of it, what’s another 5 days effectively.

I don’t get it, people say they looked at the team sheet and were worried, people must really not rate many of our players.

I think we have a premiership squad, solid and dependable, the worry was Bruce, but for me he is adapting nicely, the squad seem to be taking to him, and really that’s all that matters right now, no doubt we were the weaker team last night, but there was a lot of courage and fighting spirit from the whole squad. They should have been down to 10, and tings could have been different.

I’m happy with the progress so far,

I thought we worked hard as a team, gave the ball away too much and lacked a good outlet from defence. Leicester were very snide – any time a Newcastle player got the possibility of a breakaway they were hauled back. Surprised nobody has pointed out that the result might have been very different if they had been down to 10 men as they should have been after thrift challenge on Ritchie which may have done his ankle in according to latest reports. Shocking!
