Fans Pleased With Performance And Highlights From The Match

Here are a couple of minutes of highlights from last night’s Carabao Cup loss to Leicester City.

While it’s very disappointing to go out of another cup so early, the lads did perform admirably. They faced a full-strength Leicester side and there was not much between the two teams.

Though Leicester had 68% of the possession, they only managed 3 more attempts on goal than Newcastle. It was a game of few chances that was ultimately decided by penalties.

Some fans took to Twitter to express their thoughts on the performance of the lads last night.

Shelvey is definitely a class player
    But
His free kicks when shooting at goal are hitty missy mainly missy.
The team played very well last night so well done Bruce.
Just got beat on the lottery that is penalties.
On longstaff. He played canny similar style to his brother.unfortunately that may work against him.

Need some rain. Jimmy is just getting back and even from the Jimmy Anderson end he will not be there yet. Aussies have at least equal bowlers – Cummins and Lyon. Better batters.

    He’s 37 as well.

Rain. We need rain for a draw.

Then a Jimmy or Broad masterclass at the Oval. Jofra to bounce Smith.

I thought Ritchie was got at last night after his tackle on Maddison (who winged and finger pointed all night) down at the Gallowgate End. Leicester players were going off it and tried to rough him up a couple of times before Choudry got him with a nasty tackle
Ref was F**kin hopeless give our players no protection
As for Perez – and the boos – got what he deserved as never acknowledged the TOON fans and again moaned on all game in the face of the ref and kicked the ball away when he got a decision against him.
Nothing said on Vardy’s elbow on Longstaffe last night either

Disappointing. Poor decisions by the officials worked against us.

Watching live. As keepers walked to the goal for penna shout out.
Lino goes up to Darlow and is clearly making a point. Can only think it was about staying on your line. Does not make same point to Leicester goalie.

Hayden save. Their goalie is half a yard off his line as ball is kicked. Also, probably more important he is already on the move. Darlow, likewise, but not to same extent.

Darlow has a word with lino during shoot out. Would guess it went like – does he not have to stay on his line as well.

Like I say I always want Newcastle to win but if it had to be one or the other I’d prefer 3 points towards our continued EPL Membership!

I’d really love to see our team lifting the FA Cup or League cup – it’s been 50 years since the last time we lifted a trophy

Far to long in my opinion!

All the top teams do these niggly little fouls City and Liverpool are horrendous at it just means you can never get at them as they always just break your momentum! Celtic used to do it all the time in Scotland under Rodgers and he is doing it with Leicester now if we were better at set pieces we could take advantage but I can’t remember the last free kick / corner we scored from maybe Fulham away?

If we were to try that all game we would more than likely have guys sent off

Sounds like Rodgers told his players, No VAR tonight lads, tackle as hard as you can.

Does the FA still have the option to look at the tackle and give Choudhry a red card as the refs balls were stuck in Brendan’s pocket?

If Jimmy can win the Ashes he will be the greatest ever. 37.

This Aussie team is better than England. Better bowlers, better batsman.

Jimmy at the Oval. A final message to the kangaroo fcj=kig criminals.

Surely the referee keeps tabs of all the fouls a player is committing and brandishes them with a yellow after they have reached a certain number of fouls. I know the referees in the Premier League today are below standard but they are definitely switched on enough to know when they need to show a booking to someone for persistent fouling.

Yeah I didn’t want to be pesimisstic and spoil the party after a tremendous turnaround the other day. But deep down I was also thinking that this Aussie side have on a whole looked a lot better than England.

Was interesting listening to the commentator on Sky Sports talking about Shelvey hes always going to be a player who divides opinion as she said he can do some great things but then loses possession in key areas and gives away silly fouls one of which cost us a goal !!

    Re Shelvey
NO creative player NEVER loses possession, even the greats like David Silva etc.
Stop knocking Shelvey he’s still our best player but unfortunately we don’t have enough quality up front yet to make the most of his passes. If you see the speed and power of the passes in the best teams, you have to have great quality to take the passes otherwise it becomes lost possession. Give him a break; there we’re those who hated HBA but boy what would we give for him now?
