Steve Bruce Gives Injury Update After Last Night’s Cup Defeat

Steve Bruce spoke to NUFC TV after last night’s Carabao Cup defeat. During his interview, Bruce gave an update on the current injury situation that has hit the squad.

Going into the game, there were a couple of players who missed out due to minor knocks from the Tottenham win on Sunday. The game yesterday saw three players have to be substituted due to injuries to add to the list.

Bruce was first asked about Matt Ritchie who was forced off just before halftime from a Hamza Choudhury tackle. This is what Bruce said about Ritchie’s injury:

“When I see the mess and the state of his leg, he’s lucky. He’s very, very lucky it’s not even more. We have to see scans to see how bad the ankle is.”

We’ll have to see those scans go for Ritchie’s availability at the weekend. Matt is a tough lad, so it would just like him to shake off any ill effects from the challenge and be available for Watford.

Matt was not the only casualty from last night though his injury does appear to be the most significant of the three. Jetro Willems and Emil Krafth were also brought off with knocks.

This was Steve Bruce’s response when asked for an update on those two:

“Jetro’s got a bit of a hamstring. Emil’s got a bit of a thigh strain, so we’ll see how they are.”

Not too much to go on there, but both players may have been removed as precautions. Particularly Willems, as with Ritchie going down earlier, Bruce needed to make sure one of them will be available for Watford.

Steve Bruce was then asked about Joelinton and Miguel Almiron’s availability for the Watford match. This was his response:

“I sincerely hope so. I couldn’t risk them at all. Joe’s got a bit of a sore groin, and Miggy’s got an ankle, so we hope they’re going to be ok.”

We would expect both Joelinton and Miguel Almiron to be available for this weekend’s match. Their injuries do not appear to be severe at all. Bruce didn’t want to risk either player which is understandable.

It was disappointing to go down on penalties against Leicester, but it was a valiant effort by the lads. Steve Bruce did not have many options in attack, but that will hopefully change once Andy Carroll and Dwight Gayle return from their long-term injuries.

The only real positive for me in that game was Muto getting a goal hopefully that gives him some kind of confidence to kick on!

Wouldn’t mind seeing him as the left hand side forward in the 343 as he will track back and has good movement as I still think we should be easing Atsu into game time and he does seem quite effective off the bench

Joelinton and Muto have both scored their first of the season in the last week play them together with Almiron against Watford don’t be trying to shoe horn Shelvey in because we are at home!!

Looks like Dummett is going to be the wing back for the next game as well if Richie and Willems are out?

“but that will hopefully change once Andy Carroll and Dwight Gayle return from their long-term injuries”

Should never have been relying on them as integral parts of the squad ! Both are unbelievably injury prone and neither has had a pre season could be looking at December/January before they can actually be sharp and even then they could get injured again!!

Deceive them into thinking were on crutches.

It could be an interesting game against Watford, I know they got their win mid week against Coventry? But they’ve been pretty dire defensively in the league so far.

A big decider could be on us keeping Duelofeu quiet as he’s looked sharp so far this season and with his pace could really cause trouble. I’d also be worried if they bring in Sarr as the two of them off someone like Deeney if fit could be a big test.

You state the factors of well supported and successful being necessary for the sale of the club to come to fruition.

Can you define what you mean by successful please?

Jib if that is the only chance of a sale then we will be permanently stuck with Ashley, the only way the club will be successful is by building a squad to challenge for the cups, that will never happen with Ashley as the stats show in his time here, successful for him is staying in the league.

If some of the things happening around the club put Nufc in a bad light why do you goad the fans who want to change that?

You seem to revel in it.

FFS you have the same hopes and aspirations as Ashley! “Top 10 and the odd cup run”
You can’t be a serious fan!
If a prospective buyer put that forward as an “ambition”, he would be laughed out of toon!
You’ve dropped your guard and shown your hand sunshine!
