Here is the squad Steve Bruce has announced for the today’s match at St James Park against Watford.

Steve Bruce makes just two changes from last week’s win against Tottenham. Both of those are forced with Jetro Willems coming in for Matt Ritchie and Christian Atsu in for Allan Saint-Maximin. Emil Krafth has passed a late fitness test and retains his place at right-back.
It will be the same 5-4-1 formation that lined up last weekend. We expect a strong performance from the lads as both Miguel Almiron and Joelinton return to the side after they missed out in the Cup tie against Leicester City.
Here is how the visitors will line-up as former-Magpie Daryl Janmaat makes his first appearance in the league for Watford today.

This is a massive opportunity to go into the international break on a high. Let’s pull for the lads today in the hopes they can get the full three points, and make it two wins on the trot in the league.

Comment #41Both front men scored in their last game so can hopefully take that confidence into this game. Think we will win 2-1.

Comment #46Lil I think 541, hopefully with a high line and a lot of energy and some creativity too. If we lose all the miserables will be out in force. Jail trying his old trick of rubbishing the opposition in order to detract from Bruce. You must think we are stupid. Give him a chance.

Comment #47Testing new gravitar in honour of our main pointer and shouter. It will be interesting to see how much we miss his drive, enthusiasm and organising. I do think Willems will offer a lot more in attack, but Ritchie has been great defensively in the wingback role and often comes centrally when defending and has made some great blocks from there.

The 541 makes more sense in terms of continuity. I’ll give him a chance, but if we sit back again like the last 2 games then I will likely be critical, regardless of the result.

Comment #51Just heard Richard Keys having a dig at Steve Bruce about not playing a full team against Leicester??? Is he serious??? How the hell does he know who was injured or worn out after the Spurs game??? Didn’t hear many complaints about team selection before Wednesday’s game??? Remember that he had to select 3 teams in only 6 days so unless you’re a complete moron then common sense tells you he had to shuffle the pack???

Comment #59Very happy that Bruce has reverted the tried and tested formation from last season and chuffed with last weeks result. I don’t think we have a very tactically aware squad who can just slot into a new way of playing. Perez and Vernon Anita are the only two players who I can remember being praised for their tactical awareness and ability to follow tactical instruction.
It seemed to me with 3-5-2 that the transitions to attack and defence were very messy, we often looked stretched and had central midfielders covering the wingbacks, when there tackling abilities are better suited in the more dangerous central areas.
Well done Bruce for changing tack. I think new managers should look to build on what they inherit rather than trying to impose a new system, otherwise there will always be teething troubles. Maybe with a top squad, time can be afforded, knowing things will pick up when understanding comes, but without that, there is always the danger of loss of confidence and getting stuck at the bottom of the table.

We can win games where we just need to sit deep and hit on the counter.
When we need to go forward to score, we are screwed. As we have abysmal football.

As I’ve said. We completely struggle in games where it’s more open and we are required to play football and break teams down.
We will probably win arsenal or something but lose against 10 other teams in the bottom.
