Freddie Woodman And Former Magpie Take Swansea Top – How Did Our Other Lads Fare?

Freddie Woodman started again for Swansea City in their stunning 0-1 victory at Leeds United. This puts Swansea top of the Championship and it was former Magpie Wayne Routledge who scored the 90th minute winner.

This is a third clean sheet for Freddie Woodman as Swansea remain unbeaten this season.

Elias Sorensen got his first start for Carlisle in their 0-1 win at Scunthorpe. However, Elias was pulled off at halftime for Ryan Loft who scored the winning goal.

Jacob Murphy started from then bench in Sheffield Wednesday’s 1-2 loss against QPR at Hillsborough. He was brought on in the 76th minute but it was not enough for the Owls to get a result.

Dan Barlaser started another match for Rotherham United though he only lasted until the half before being replaced. Rotherham drew 1-1 at home against Tranmere.

Liam Gibson came in as a second half substitute for Grimsby Town in their 1-3 win at Walsall. Liam has struggled to get on the pitch for Grimsby after suffering an injury in pre-season.

Kelland Watts made his fourth start in the league for Stevenage as they battled Macclesfield to a 2-2 draw at home.

Nathan Harker was on the bench for Blyth Spartans in their 2-0 defeat at Leamington. Former Newcastle youngster Callum Roberts made his debut for Blyth.

Atsu looks like a completely different player.

Absolute quality on the ball again and created the most chances again.

Deserved an assist when he set up Almiron perfectly.

I’ve met a load of Newcastle supporters today, people I don’t know. I no longer go but I always go to the Toon on match day. LSome have binned their tickets, most had not.
They were all mint, their devotion is unreal.
I’m so proud of this club’s supporters.

Yar, Atsu has played really good in the last two games. Can also play in the playmaker role just behind the striker. Made a mistake loaning out Murphy and not selecting Aarons though. Would possibly play Almiron on the wing, but we’re now short of wingers.

This would be a decent side:

    Dubravka

    Manquillo Schar Lejuene Willems

    Shelvey

    Yedlin Atsu Almiron

    Joelinton Muto

I was i toon today but sadly although i could have just walked in today and taken one of the thousands of spare seats available, I remain committed to abstinence until fat man buses out. Could tell we’d scored though because you can hear the roar in Northumberland street, you have to get up to old Eldon square to hear an away goal cheer 🙂

Didn’t see many fans milling around today and yes it was all very downbeat and quiet. I guess it’s the hard core fans who lift the place that are staying away that is not helping the atmosphere. I wonder how low the attendances will get before either Bruce goes or Ashley will decide it’s time to shake things up.

Just got back. Wtf is that about a poor atmosphere today? Try being there, it was very good today, singing start to finish. I’d rather have 44k there making that noise tbh. Nowt wrong with the atmosphere today.
The team hasn’t quite gelled yet granted, but we were on the front foot most of the game and really, had we taken our chances we should’ve won comfortably.
We were unlucky for their goal, an unlucky deflection but should’ve had two by half time.

Yar, I’m not sure about Bruce’s tactics. Would played 4-4-2 and dropped Dummett or Lascelles. Don’t need 3 centre backs at home. We’re really missing Diame, Perez and Rondon

Fabian Schar scores a late equaliser to take the teams in level at the break.

In all honestly, NUFC have been shocking.

Tbf the quiet ground thing pre dated our last two managers tenure, walking by sjp on match days sometimes you wouldn’t know there was a match on. And that was full house.

It might have been ok inside the ground today but outside in the streets it was definitely not as lively. Just an observation.

A dire woeful awful performance today. No positives and only affirms the general consensus that we will be in relegation battle all the way.

Forget the spurs game as winning those sorts of game won’t count for much. 1 point against Norwich and Watford is worrying.

Almiron is form is terrible and longstaff is out of his depth at this level. Needs a loan to the championship.

Not like ilovewearside to tear down players is it. Longstaff now suddenly out of his depth? Or struggling with a less predictable or capable set of players in a dull formation? Let’s see how the season pans out a bit before we start writing everyone off shall we?

I’d say the atmosphere has beem in declone since the mid 90’s. It had certainly declined by the time I had to give up my season ticket.

Still, the lack of atmosphere is not just SJP, it’s grounds all over the Prem. Spurs last week made the Emirates sound like a Slipknot concert, and made SJP on the opening day this season sound like you were in the middle of rumble of thunder at the centre of a hurricane.

Tbf it wouldn’t be unusual for us to struggle against these sorts of teams and then roll over some of the top five ha ha in fact that’s virtually the club’s m.o. for the last couple of years isn’t it? 🙂

Strangely enough, the game was being played inside the ground and there was plenty of noise today, whether that fits certain agendas or not.
We won’t be relegated this season, not imo. At least we looked like winning in the second half, and kept attacking. Like I say, not gelled quite yet but early signs are decent.

The day safe standing is brought in is the day atmosphere’s across the country will improve. Not the same trying to sing sitting down, don’t care what anybody says. And some of today’s fans are just too posh to sing anyway.

Coulda won shoulda won, Joelinton MOM for me, he’s now looking the player we thought he should be.

Bit puzzled as to why we were bringing on defenders at the end when we should have been going at their throats although Manquillo is a step up from Krafht and was a good sub.

Muto should have come on earlier for Almiron, might have given him a chance to settle into the flow of the game although he should have tried to either chip Foster or shot earlier.

Wonder if Shelvey had a few words with Brucie and got his back up, he was the obvious substitution to make rather than Fernandez and Schaar shouldn’t have been hooked.

A learning curve for Brucie but the lads played well and were without doubt the better team.

Got to agree, I thought the atmosphere was ok today. Downside for the 1st half, looked like a group of lads who met at pub and said do you fancy a game, looked like never trained together. 2nd half was an improvement play wise. Also got to say I’m very impressed with Joelinton, he really is starting to look a player. Just wish Almiron with the pace he has could keep on side, he is that fast doesn’t need to get himself off side

Also if Brucie keeps cold shouldering Jonjo, expect a transfer request from him, he’s desperate to play, deserves at least a subs appearance and when he does get on will probably try too hard and end up with bookings.

In a funny kind of way I enjoyed the game plenty of chances both ends some decent play – but mostly poor from both teams
Tad unlucky for the goal thought we should of had a handball in the build up then a deflection into the path of Hughes
Dubravka -7 nothing to do first half but earn his corn second half with a couple of sharp saves
Krafth 6 – tidy game did nothing wrong needs to be a bit more pro-active when going forward
Lascalles 7 – had a good game and for a change carried the ball out of defence tired late in second half
Schar7.5 – rxcellent game capped with goal but should of had a second with header second half. But did not understand his substitution unless injured
Dummett 7 – steady as always if not spectacular
Willems 8.5 – my man of the match
Constant threat all game got some nimble footwork around their box – crosses well and linked up well with Atsu – also defended well
Hayden 7 – looks good in his more forward role tackled well passed well and broke up play – great shot that Foster knew nothing much about
Longstaffe – 5 poor today passing was astray lost the ball all to often. Should of been hooked for Shelvey
Almiron 6.5 – full of running if at tomes not sure what he is doing – should of done better from Atsu’s cross needs a goal
Atsu 8 – ran Willems close for motm linked up with Willems well could become a great combination in future. Great cross for Almiron
Joelinton -8 played well got a great first touch control and good passer of the ball but needs to be in the centre of going to score goals and rest of team need to get closer to him for to be a threat
Bruce 5 cannot get my head around his substitutions unless injured
Crying out for Shelvey to open their defence up as it was poor
Crowd 5 – 44,0000 maybe – don’t think so but – a bit of noise second half but quite for long periods
