We were really impressed with Jetro Willems both on Wednesday evening against Leicester City and yesterday against Watford. That is two starts in a row where he has put in excellent performances.
It couldn’t have come at a more opportune time for both the Dutchman and Newcastle. Jetro will be getting a lot of appearances over the next two months as Matt Ritchie recovers from his ankle injury.
If he can contribute like he did yesterday, then Newcastle should be in decent shape at left-back.
Jetro Willems– looks a very good addition
Jetro bombed down the left flank all day and put in a few lethal crosses. He linked up very well with Christian Atsu, who also has put in another top performance.
Jetro has given an interview to the Newcastle United website about his first Premier League start.
This is some of what he has said:
“I think we should have won it. It’s unlucky, because we had some chances, and they didn’t create something – it was an unlucky goal. It was early in the game, but we tied it.
“And after, I think we showed them that we were better, even on the counter-attack. They were only defending. They only played long balls. We should win this one, and then we are in a great position.
“We have had some progress. I think if you saw the first game, it was a miscommunication and we lost. But in the first half, I think we were better.
“Against Norwich, it was something that can happen. And after, against Tottenham, we were in shape. And now we keep going, and we are in good shape.
“Of course, of course. I am not 100 percent fit yet because my last (full game) was last season, and I want to show more. But for the time, I’m satisfied.
“I’m trying to do my best, that’s the only thing I want. And to give the fans what they deserve, and what they come for. I want to show myself also, but it’s my job. I’m just doing my job.”
The team will take a two-week break as EURO Qualifiers get underway. Jetro will jet back to Frankfurt to collect some items that he has not been able to since joining Newcastle. This is what he said about the timing of the break:
“For me, it’s the right time to get some rest and organize my things, because I’m new here and it was a little bit chaotic!
“I came from the training camp of my old club, then came here and I couldn’t go back. So, for me, it’s a good and right time.”
Unfortunately for Jetro, he is currently not in the plans of The Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman. Though if he continues to put in performances, he can force his way back into the Dutch squad.
Incidentally, The Netherlands face Germany on Friday and feature three former Magpies in their squad in Georginio Wijnaldum, Luuk de Jong, and Patrick van Aanholt.

Comment #161According to the trust, a feasibility study carried out before Mike Ashley bought the club proved it WAS viable and the loyalty of Newcastle United supporters could easily fill the seats.
Mock me all you like NUFC-83 I care about Ashley turning the club into a vehicle for his personal enrichment rather than trying to be best we can be maximising our potential. That’s what sport is all about. You’re showing your true colours here.

Comment #162Trent a little advice. Get yourself away for a few days in the countryside and just get out and enjoy life and take in nature. Worrying about these meanless things will eat you up in a pool of negativity.

Some good vocal support for the team on Wednesday from the SE corner.
Will be the same tomorrow.
About a thousand unsold seats in upper Gallowgate. Quite expensive tickets for the view at £36.
Level 7 at £26 seem to be going ok although some gaps.
Would like to see Wor Flags get back.
Don’t listen to the Doomsters.
******************************************
For the record this is what I said on Friday about ticket sales.
I did NOT claim it was a sell out.
A thousand still on sale in the upper Gallowgate. That was about right.
I did not count every unsold seat – never claimed I did.
A short while later said
Come on where are you.
Lets be having you.
Come On.
Lets get behind Brucies Brave Hearts.
The latter was clearly just the enthusiasm of a supporter. Is it still allowed ?
Not by St Hibbitt it would appear.
Hey ! You lot. Stop enjoying yasells don’t you know I’ve given me ticket up !

Comment #172My life is fine. Thanks for your concern. Meaningless negativity? Meaningless that Ashley’s business model at a club he didn’t even fully own was that the club gets to keep 0.026% of merchandising sales. Is this the USSR? Not going to persuade a shill. Keep drinking the kool-aid.

Comment #173Nufc 83 is a fully paid up member of KBA,his pathetic posts regarding stadium expansion and thinking this squad is a true reflection of the finances the club has had available for 12 years tells you that. Its going to be another relegation battle from now to the end of the season all thanks to the parasites penny pinching and asset stripping. To call himself a supporter makes a true fan wince, the less said about jib the rat the better.Wheres the money gone Jabba.

About 18 months ago St Hibbitt was dailly putting out ITK stuff.
Turned out to be horlics.
I did not say he had lied.
Gave him the benefit of the doubt and accepted that he had been given duff gen.
Short memory.

No one said the land is worthless
Just that it cannot be used to extend the Gallowgate End
The various protest groups mention an engineers report (2017)
that says it would be possible – It’s yet to be produced by any of them.
Possible or not – the PTE has refused permission.

Comment #181The investment? What investment? Curtailing/diversion of commercial income you mean. Propping up his investment with loans when his own decision making leads to relegation. No losses for him just burden the club with debt. Mike doesn’t lose a penny. The asset stripping? What ‘investment?” All the same sorry tale. Anyway I’m out. Few hours on here is long enough but embarrassed by the attitude to Strawberry Place. Where is the anger?

Comment #197Extending the stadium is definitely of interest to any new potential investor as they all see added value in doing it; see Etihad, Anfield etc.
I imagine the planners knocked back SJH plan as it was a hotel and stadium project. It would be easy to just extend the Gallowgate stand outwards and upwards, for relatively low cost!
That’s gone now for what is to Ashley “peanuts” !
The man and his regime are a fckin curse!

Comment #199Re VAR, seems to me that the FA have sacrificed correct decision making to protect referees and keep more flow to the game (with the offsides). Every sensible person understands it’s very difficult for referees and linesmen to get every decision correct, so why not have VAR judge by the letter of the law and overrule where necessary. I’m sure if every player wore on of those trackers (often seen in preseason matches) and there was a sensor in the ball to measure velocity change; then an automated offside system could be implemented and the referee could received a debilitating electric shock to let him know it’s offside. Obviously this would mean that the position of the tracker at the top of the back is the measure for offside rather than any body part that can play the ball.
