Fabian Schar scored another beautiful goal last night. He just looks so comfortable in the box and took his goal like a seasoned striker.
Here is what Chris Waugh from the Athletic has tweeted about Fabian.
I'm not sure there are many other centre backs around at the moment who could score this type of goal. The #nufc defender has two in two games for club & country, & both have involved this sort of pass-&-advance movement https://t.co/5bhA8CYUax
— Chris Waugh (@ChrisDHWaugh) September 6, 2019
Newcastle must give Fabian a new deal the year, and make him one of the highest-paid players at the club. We just fear that with him turning 28 in December along with the plethora of centre-backs at the club, it might be too tempting for Mike Ashley to sell Schar.
There will certainly be interest in the ball-playing defender. He has only two years left on his deal and if a new one is not negotiated soon, we fear the worst about our Swiss star.
This is what some fans had to say about Schar’s performance last night. We, unfortunately, think this first Tweet by Kev H might be right.
Mike Ashley after every time Fabian Schar plays. #nufc pic.twitter.com/7aK1n5D7rr

Fabian Schär is genuinely the 2nd best CB in the world.

I don’t think I’ve seen a centre back score as many goals in the penalty area in open play as Fabian Schar. A very unique goal threat. Can’t believe he plays for us. https://t.co/SXsF4LIlWz

Also at the start of last season.

You were talking about dressed crab yesterday
I’m just old enough to remember as a toddler
being wheeled past the fisherman’s cottages in Cullercoats
(now demolished) with the old fishwives sitting at their doors
selling dressed crab out of a wicker basket.
Just a fan

If you ban yourself for a week your a fool.
They will still accuse you of having alts talking for you.
There are others on here just as bad as you not banning themselves
If you get banned that is a different matter.

Comment #5geordietom, true that – I think also confidence, knowing how to work with his colleagues, faith in himself. All take a bit of time to emerge.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens when Lejeune is back, another Rolls Royce of a defender. I think we cannot leave Dummett out, so does that mean Lascelles gets dropped?
It’s an interesting conundrum for our Head Coach, for sure.
Not the first time the question has been asked on here over the last couple of seasons, which shows how strong our CBs are these days. Not sure I’ve ever been able to say that before in all my years supporting the club.
Even when we had Woodgate, we also had Bramble. Phillipe Albert was great but prone to making a mistake, Darren Peacock was a bit static and got turned too easily. Colloccini was great on his day but often couldn’t be bothered.
These days, we’ve massive strength, massive desire and massive depth.

Neil and I both agree that we don’t want to ban anyone outright, but you may be “moderated” if your comments get out of hand again. What does being “moderated” mean? It means that your comments must be reviewed and approved before they will show on the blog. And as we don’t have anyone to do review/approve all day long, it could be a while before your posts ever appear.
Our main concern is the personal attacks against others. Differing opinions on NUFC and football in general are the lifeblood of the blog, and what make this forum a great place. All opinions are welcomed, just please keep it civil when you disagree.

Comment #19@ RobLeenio I don’t think Bruce has ever had a defence which runs itself and with the potential return of Lejeune can’t see us shipping many goals. Just the midfield and strikers to sort out.
Future looks bright and hope Bruce doesn’t cock it up. Fingers crossed.

Comment #21Is it even possible to defame anyone on a blog. I don’t think it is. We all blog under an assumed name. The only reputation you can defame is our nufc blog assumed name reputation.
Folks are often called a liar. You’d rarely say that in the real world as it would potentially cost you a lot of money.
Some of the worst offenders now claim the moral high ground.
Ed Harrison cannot regulate your behaviour. If he closes anyone down they simply come back in another name.
I accept that we all need to stay within certain limits.
Jibs now infamous comment some while back.
It went too far. However I will confess that when I read it I laughed.
Why ? Because he snapped and in the heat of the moment he made a bad decision.
Went too far yes but it was a pure insult.
Can’t remember who was on the receiving end. We all know though that Jib could not possibly mean it, that he was not seriously making those claims. Why ? Because he only knows that person from a blog. He was not actually alleging anything.
It was a pure insult.
Not a very nice one but a pure insult.

Comment #31Oldgit1, it can be argued that nobody has ever shown the faith in Bruce to gift him a squad like ours, let alone a defence like the one we have. Certainly, he’s never had a squad worth so much, but that may be a reflection of the way the market has gone, rather than anything else.
It could be argued, therefore that he sees this role as his chance to shine, his time to finally say ‘look what I can achieve when I have some good players’.
I’m not sure it’ll work out for him like that – Ashley may have spent money this Summer, but we all know it’s no guarantee that he’ll do so again in the next window, or any window that follows. I’m still yet to be convinced over his ability to do the job, too, though I still have an open mind.
Like you, I have my fingers crossed that he can succeed – for his sake and ours.

Comment #32I have probably blogged on here for about 6 years.
Expressed some forthright views.
I think the worst I have ever called anyone was an idiot.
That was after being called a lot worse.
I have only ever had one name. Never changed it and then back again.
About 18 months ago the comments on here became really heated. That was the ITK Amanda take over stuff. Past few weeks have been worse.
I do think we have at least two competing agendas.
You have to use civil language and not go too far. On the other hand we are all fairly robust.
Some of the outrage on here is false. It’s blog outrage. I’ve said loads worse and taken worse back in the real world and it was considered good craic. Within limits based on who you were debating with.
Odd times I think I don’t want the conflict that inevitably comes with blogging.
Always got the option. Don’t bother.

Comment #37Schar imo is wasted as a CB.
We haven’t had a goal scoring mid since Cabaye and I think Schar has everything in his locker to play CM between Longstaff and Hayden.
The big thing with Schar is that he always thinks he CAN score and makes runs with that in mind. Compare that to Hayden and Longstaff who, good players that they are, rarely make the type of runs that Schar does.
Goal scoring CM’s are a rarity, good CB’s aren’t.
Go on Bruce, give Schar a go.
He could make one hell a difference to the team in that position.
