Yesterday, there was some speculation that Dwight Gayle could be a target of some Championship clubs this January. However, we wondered if Gayle’s lingering calf problem could scupper any moves during the winter transfer window.
Gayle went down with the injury in July but is still making no progress in his recovery. It’s starting to become more of a concern as to what exactly the problem is with Gayle’s calf.
Gayle has been to a few specialists but still is not making any headway towards a recovery.
Steve Bruce seems to have no answers on Gayle’s injury either. The Chronicle have published some comments Bruce has made about the 28-year-old, and they are less than encouraging:
“Dwight’s a big disappointment for me because I have now been here for seven, eight weeks but this injury has not got any better – which is a big concern to all of us.”
Gayle is in an interesting situation as Steve Bruce really seems to want to give him a chance. However, he has just two years remaining on his contract and if he is unable to play then he’s not going to justify getting an extension with Newcastle.
The club also have to avoid allowing Gayle’s value to plummet as it most likely will the closer he gets to the end of his deal. It’s not a positive situation for any of the parties involved.

If the mundane moaning Munster man would just let it go then there wouldn’t need to be any conversations about our former manager.
Nufc-83,
Do you think Pardew was a bigger clown than Carver? That really must take some doing.

Comment #4Gayle should have been a direct swap with Rondon with maybe Aaron’s thrown in to the deal, not sure why that never happened, you’d have to ask Lee Churnley I suppose.

Comment #5JfA I also thought that was going to be a certain transfer swap with another player or tiny bit of cash at the close of the season and would have made so much sense.
Can’t blame Rondon for his move this stage of his career to be on was it 120k/week?

I suggested the Rondon swap deal too but the only reason it wouldn’t happen was that Ashley wouldn’t let Gayle go for nothing in return for 29 year old Rondon who has no sell on value.
Ashley will still try to get £10-12 million for him in January and I wouldn’t be surprised to see his calf muscle problem clear up around that time.
