Report – Newcastle Turned Down Offers For Player Who Can Leave For Nothing Next Summer

Leeds and Blackburn were both linked with moves for goalkeeper Karl Darlow this summer. While the Blackburn interest was quickly muted, the Leeds interest lingered throughout the summer.

There were even reports in mid-July that Leeds had approached Newcastle about Darlow. However, nothing came from the links and Leeds are currently in the very safe hands of Spaniard Kiko Casilla at the position.

Football Insider are reporting that Newcastle turned down offers from Leeds for the 28-year-old this summer and that they now risk losing him for nothing next summer. Karl Darlow’s contract only runs until 2020.

The report comes from the angle that Newcastle made a mistake in not selling Darlow this summer. However, we think Newcastle made a responsible decision to hold onto the keeper this season.

Karl Darlow– do Newcastle have plans to keep him?

Karl Darlow is a very good back-up and also would not have commanded a significant fee last summer. He can always sign a new contract with Newcastle this year if the club wish to keep him.

Darlow was only being considered as a back-up for Leeds. Casilla has played in all of their games this season and is clearly their number one. So we’re not sure that would have been an ideal move for Karl.

Leeds brought in French U20 international Illan Meslier on loan with an option to buy from Lorient on deadline day. They also have a Polish goalkeeper Kamil Miazek who is serving as the back-up for the cup competitions.

We think keeping Darlow at Newcastle was a wise decision by the club even if they end up losing him for nothing in the summer. Though we would like to see him get an extension before his contract expires.

While Darlow is never going to be first-choice at Newcastle, he is an experienced back-up. Resigning him will also allow the club to send Freddie Woodman on loan to a Premier League club next season for more first-team games.

Of course, they also need to get Freddie on a long-term deal as well. That should be a top priority this season.

    BBB

The dog says his puppy would never follow Liverpool because they won the champions league, using that logic his puppy would be a spurs supporter if theyd won.

The dog reckons his puppy isn’t that fickle and follows his path as a Nufc fan.

    Australian Pie,
I think Rondon would have stayed here for 100K a week which is well within our budget.
Not sure why Darlow isn’t offered a new deal, Woodman on loan for another season before the inevitable sale of Dubravka.

If the puppy can’t suss out that we should have played two up top in the Championship despite being promoted as champions as joint top scorers and joint best defence, should have attacked lesser teams more and not thought crap Scottish blokes that we spent all summer chasing then I’m afraid it’s never going to progress past giving you it’s paw.

More on Sports Direct ahead of its annual meeting.

JD Sports shares up 2.8% on the back of upbeat performance results.

    In other news

Fidelity International’s Maike Currie says that shareholders have questions over Sports Direct’s performance and the boss, Mike Ashley’s, recent shopping spree.
Shares in the firm have fallen over 30% this year, Ms Currie says and there doubts over Mr Ashley’s decision to buy House of Fraser and Jack Wills.
He is also rumoured to be considering buying High Street jeweler Links of London.

So now he’s considering ‘bling’ to go with his shell suits. Lovely.

Jail “Rondon would have stayed here for 100K a week which is well within our budget”

It might be within our budget, but it’s outside of our current wage structure. Pretty sure Shelvey is our current highest earner on £70 / week.

Last year at the AGM Ashley turned up with those God-awful jeans on, being barracked by the London Magpie Group, couldn’t get in the door (hilariously), read a prepared statement and then left via a back entrance, leaving the shareholders sat in the auditorium waiting in vain for their opportunity to question the board.

I expect that things will progress very similarly this time round, though he may work out how to get into the building on his own this time.

He treats his shareholders with the same contempt he treats the fans of NUFC.

Jail I want to know once and for all, are you and Munster lovers? Because both of ye never shut up going on about each other, and are constantly giving out about each other like a married couple. Come on now, the truth this time please.

IrishRob, in terms of value, Darlow owes the club absolutely nothing. We bought him for buttons with Lascelles from Forest, both have been good and loyal servants to the club. Darlow isn’t quite Premier League quality, in my opinion, but is still a decent keeper and if he leaves for free to a Champo club in the Summer, I’ll wave him off with no bitterness at all.

Good luck to the lad, he’s just now reaching his peak and has a good number of years left as a professional, he deserves to be playing regular first team football.

As LSE rules state if he don’t have an auditor the shares must be suspended as their vales can’t be determined

Toon22…. tbf to Munster Jail is always putting words in Munsters mouth so to speak, and saying he said things he didnt say, so I definitely wouldn’t agree with you there. They are both as bad as each other. But they literally are like an old couple who never stop, they could be lovers you know.

Roberto….I’ve lways had a soft spot for Darlow I remember well when we bought both players off Forrest for 6M combined if I remember correctly.

I agreed it wouldn’t make much sense selling him aa youd only get 1-2M it was definitely more advantageous to keep him in the hope he fulfills his promise, but either way hes no big loss if he goes for free.
