Our Predicted Squad For Tomorrow’s Match At Anfield

We see only one forced change in Steve Bruce’s side for Saturday’s match at Liverpool. Due to Sean Longstaff’s ankle injury, we have Jonjo Shelvey coming into the team in his place. We expect the team’s shape to be reminiscent of the 5-4-1 formation which worked so well at Tottenham.

This fixture, along with Manchester City away are easily the two most daunting of the season. So to get anything out of this match is highly unlikely. While we expect Steve Bruce to bring Jonjo Shelvey on for Longstaff, a better option may be Matty Longstaff. Jonjo doesn’t fare too well in these types of matches where defensive graft and discipline are required.

We could also envision a 5-3-2 formation in which both Matty and Jonjo are deployed in a midfield three. That however, would likely mean that Christian Atsu would not get the start. We just don’t think Bruce will leave Christian out of the starting eleven as he has played so well this season.

The bench will again have limited options in attack as has been the case for each game this season. We also have Matty Longstaff making the match-day squad:

Karl Darlow, Ciaran Clark, Federico Fernandez, Javier Manquillo, Matty Longstaff, Ki Sung-yueng, and Yoshinori Muto.

What Will Be The Result Of Saturday's Match At Liverpool?

  • Loss (71%, 720 )
  • Win (16%, 166 )
  • Draw (13%, 134 )

I’m not saying for a minute this is happening as we seem to have a decent bunch but it is a well know fact that “injuries” pile up when players aren’t up for the fight.

Can’t see Bruce mixing it up too much by pushing a defender into mid. Kind of gamble that could backfire big time against teams like this.

He seemed impressed with M Longstaff so he may get the nod over Shelvey – can’t afford to give possession away especially the little we will get.

Whilst i hope for it I can’t see another Man City or Spurs miracle happening. Just hope they give it their all and as we know, anything can happen 🙂

I just caught the video of Mike Ashley a few threads back. I see Ashley is back to his favourite form of manipulation, attacking a straw man argument. Ashley doesn’t pick the team? Who has been saying he did. Obviously Ashley has input into the selection of the squad and narrows down the squad selection by proxy of his terms… but why let facts get in the way.

What was it Ashley used last time, cannot spend £100’s of millions like Man City to keep the fans happy.

Quite creative with the ‘truth’ is Mike Ashley.

    AncientC,
Those hand gestures are beyond ridiculous, who on earth has taught him to do that and why?

Yes, it looks like Ashley is being stage-managed. Public speaking lessons maybe. No amount of acting can get past Ashley’s lack of credibility.

Ed, just seen your medical news so please know that the Geordie hoards are rooting for you. There’s a few on here who are in the same boat at different parts of that process so you have our understanding.

It’s probably to distract people from his lazy eye.
