Almiron, Atsu, And Shelvey All Start At Liverpool

Here is the team Steve Bruce has selected for today’s match at Anfield.

This is the lineup that most Newcastle fans would have expected with just Jonjo Shelvey coming in for Sean Longstaff. It looks like it will be the 5-4-1 that Bruce used at Tottenham with Atsu on the left and Almiron on the right. Jonjo Shelvey is going to need to graft like his life depends on it today. If not, there’s Matty Longstaff on the bench who we know will.

This is the Liverpool side the lads will face in about an hour. Joelinton’s Brazilian compatriot Firmino does not get the start today.

This is one of the most difficult fixtures of the season for Newcastle. We just hope they can put in a performance and any result would be an unexpected bonus. Let’s hope the international break has disrupted Liverpool’s momentum and the lads can nick a result.

Howay The Lads!

I never thought I would be hoping they will bring on Manquillo.

Why is Dubravka trying to hit the ball with closed fists. Modern goalkeeping? Palms should be open.

Basic GK mistake, slides at feet to collect the ball. Messes is it up.

    Dubravka overrated.

    So poor.

Can’t give gifts in games like this. We were just settling down again too and looking like making it to HT.

    Game over now.

To get anything out of a game like this, keeper, especially, must not make silly mistakes.

Got to gamble, Liverpool defence isn’t great..no point just sitting back and being content with maybe 2-1 or 3-1

    HT.

Got a great goal early on. Looked comfy for 25mins until they kicked into a higher gear for 5mins and got the equaliser. Game then settled for 10mins and returned to the main pattern of the match, we looked like making it to HT and then Dubravka cost us any chance of getting something out the match.

We didn’t show the same grit as the Spurs match when the tempo was upped.

Lascelles should have been penalised for a pen too.

So annoying when we gift a team of liverpool’s quality a goal, hopefully nick a point here tho need to use almiron more on the shoulder as long as the linesman let’s play go on on the close calls
Joelinton was onside on that one that got called

    Yeah.

He’s turning into another Krul. Brilliant initial impact, then mistakes start creeping in, loses confidence and doesn’t command his box like he used to and then becomes nothing more than shot stopper.

That was awful goalkeeping. He was strong favourite, got there in plenty of time and then somehow allowed the ball to squirm over him like a wet bar of soap.

Fully agree, really p’s me off when the linesman don’t let close calls go. Really good opportunity undone by a wrong call.

I think we’ve done ourselves proud that first half. Losing due to a mistake against champions league winners is some doing. Hope the second half doesn’t get too crazy.

Good half overall. We can’t sit as deep as we are. Their center backs are only 15 yards from our box at times. They’re putting 3 guys in the center of our box and just whipping it in from every angle with no regard for our counter because even if we get the ball we gotta go 70 yards under pressure.

Lpool defending for our goal was schoolboy stuff.

Alexander Arnold was awful in our build up way before Willems even got the ball.

We’ve got to get the ball out to Atsu wide left because we’ll get chances from there.

And Bruce has to do something about our right side, Almiron and Krafth are easy meat and are being targeted non stop. It’s also leaving Al far too deep even we regain possession and he has three around him every time.

I still think we could get something out of this game as long as they don’t get a third before we score.

Agreed, these offside calls when we have VAR is really winding me up. Got the benefit of the stupid referee protecting style of VAR the premier league use with the penalty incident. Frustrated by Shelvey’s stupid shot when he could have put Atsu through on goal with a simple well weighted pass. Frustrated the both Liverpool goals came from stupid decisions and mistakes.

Dubs is a good Gk and hes saved us more times than he costs us. But he definitely is overrated, this is probably the reason he was never at a Huge club because leaving out the mistakes errors and bad judgement, he would be world class.
