This 19-Year-Old Might Be High On Newcastle’s Wish List This January

Newcastle were linked with Derby right-back Jayden Bogle towards the end of the summer transfer window in August. Recently, the Shields Gazette reported that Newcastle still retained an interest in the 19-year-old.

At first, this would sound like an odd transfer target since Newcastle have three first-team right-backs on the books. They also just completed a move for Emil Krafth who has started the last 4 Premier League matches. Behind Krafth, there is Javier Manquillo and DeAndre Yedlin who have loads of Premier League experience and are in their prime.

Manquillo had a very promising pre-season and played well in his only start this season against Arsenal. He was surprisingly dropped for Krafth against Norwich City though we wouldn’t be surprised to see him back against Brighton.

Yedlin had been Newcastle’s primary right-back over the past two seasons. He is getting close for a return from groin surgery and should be available soon.

The issues with both Manquillo and Yedlin are their contracts don’t have long to run. Manquillo’s contract has less than a year on it, and there has been no talk of a new deal for the Spaniard. Yedlin’s deal runs until the summer of 2021, and while there have been some discussions of him getting an extension, it seems to be low on the priority list.

If the club do not plan on keeping Javier Manquillo beyond this season, then they should look to sell him this January to get something for him rather than lose him this summer for nothing. There may be some suitors for the 25-year-old. Valencia were linked with a move for Manquillo in early September but eventually brought in 19-year-old Portuguese right-back Thierry Correia from Sporting Lisbon on their transfer deadline day.

Similarly, Yedlin could be sold for a decent fee if he is not seen as a player for the future. If either of the two are sold, Bogle would be a perfect replacement.

Jayden Bogle is currently out with an ankle injury suffered against Swansea in the second match of the season. He is, however, expected to return to action shortly.

The right-back has just turned nineteen this past July and has already made 52 appearances for Derby. He also had 9 assists last season which is outstanding for such a young full-back. The other positive about Jayden is that he would not take a squad place due to his age.

We may get some insight into Newcastle’s thinking over the next few months. If both Manquillo and Yedlin don’t become involved in contract negotiations soon and Krafth remains the man at right-back, then it could be best to see what type of fees they can bring in. We doubt both would move on in January but replacing either one with Jayden Bogle could be some good business.

Look at the difference in Mitrovic playing in the championship hes scored in almost every game hes played and is joint top scorer. If this doesn’t highlight the gap between the premier league nothing will.

Long story short, Gayle isn’t gonna score shit when he comes in.

    Repost, missed the bus

The problems in VAR are multiple and have screwed some of the laws already in place.

Offside used to be clear daylight, attacker gets the benefit.

Now on VAR it’s the furthest part of yourself foward, if you’ve got long hair and its blowing in the wind you could be 2ft offside.

With that change linesman are trying to call the impossible and will get it wrong as often as they get it right.

    I preferred clear daylight.

We’ll see this and other problems more and more as the season goes on

Where does that leave players coming in from “weaker leagues” as they’re called, MLS League one etc.

    Has anyone read this?

The chief exec of the FSA is saying to be taken seriously fans need to engage with the club.

This guy is a Nufc supporter, surely he knows the club doesn’t meet or engage with the fans.

I’ve only seen this lad play a handful of times so by no means an expert but he would certainly be athletic enough to play as a wingback, haven’t seen him challenged enough defensively to know if he could cut it however.

I would like to see us shift towards taking the chance on these younger English players.

Has anyone seen much of Ben Pearson at Preston? I’ve never really seen him linked anywhere but he could be a good option to come in, in January.

Impossible to say who will be a hit in EPL or any league – anyone see that 16 year old playing for Barca against Valencia last night – scored one , assisted one and looked really good

Also I know some make the grade and some dont, I’m just pointing out there is a far bigger gap there than people think. Mitro looks good in championship, gayle looks awesome in the championship, both are poor in the PL.
