The list of wounded Magpies grew to eight when Fabian Schar was forced off with a calf injury at Liverpool over the weekend. He joined midfielder Sean Longstaff, who had turned over his ankle in training, as a recent addition to an already bloated list.
Bruce has so far given no indication of the availability of Schar or Longstaff for this Saturday’s crucial game against Brighton saying only that it was too soon to know in his post-Liverpool comments to the press.
He did, however, give an update on Andy Carroll. Bruce confirmed that Andy was cleared by a specialist to increase his participation in training this week.
He also added, when prompted, that Carroll had a chance of making the squad for Brighton. The caveat being that he makes it through training this week without a setback.
The Daily Mail have a report that, if accurate, will provide a significant boost to Bruce for Saturday.
The Mail is reporting that Andy Carroll has not had any problems through the first two days of training this week. Therefore, it is looking all the more likely that he will be in the match-day squad.
The good news does not end there either. The Mail is also reporting that both Sean Longstaff and Fabian Schar should also be available for Brighton.
If true, this would significantly reduce Newcastle’s injury list while providing Bruce some much-needed options in picking a squad.

Comment #1I’ve stopped looking at the fail, there used to be way too many sponsored stories, now they won’t let me unless I disable AdBlocker.
It’s their loss not mine – I hope their “Hits” (and therefore their ad income), drops to the floor.

Comment #4Hopefully, because I get a feeling hes gonna score goals. Makes no sense considering his record the last few years but I really feel hes gonna score goals.

Comment #5Mickey it’s not first unless you write “first” at #1. But nice try.
Do it in the next thread. You’ll have no competition from me, because I’m retired. No more “firsts” from me unless I come out of retirement.

Comment #6I’ve a feeling he’s being rushed back.
Sods law says he’ll score on his debut then be out until xmas.
Which will give the people who think he’s a good signing and those who think he’s a bad signing plenty to beat eack other with.
Cant wait

Comment #7Rob – I’ve had the same feeling but ruled it down to simple hope.
Be good to see what AC can do though.

Comment #8OP – probably right as all of the injuries will lead to desperate measures.
I hope you right in that he scores on debut but really hope you are wrong on the injury.
Jeez the level we are at when we look forward to a damaged pre-player returning and (as Jail said) seeing survival as success……….sometimes I hate myself lol

It’s what being a Nufc fan is about, preparing for the worst hoping for something average.

Comment #10I’m a fan of Carroll but with the best will in the world he’s going to be nowhere near match fit after a week’s training. Maybe have him on the sub bench and put him on for the last 10 minutes when we’re cruising 3 – 0 up 😀

Comment #11Also how does the Mail know all this inside information whereas our illustrious local reporter Lee Ryder doesn’t?

Comment #12Not sure why the “Next Article” link isn’t showing up. It should be there automatically. Just a glitch, I suppose?? Technology, unfortunately, is not infallible.
Jail – from last night – I mentioned to Neil some time ago that on our next visit to Newcastle we should coordinate a meet-up for the bloggers and have a pint together. Great minds… 😀

It’s been a while,
Personally I think it might be a week or 2 too early for Carroll but maybe he’ll get a late cameo at the weekend. I’m not sure if it’s been mentioned on here as I’ve not been on for a while but has anything been said on Dwight Gayle’s injury issue? Seems a strange one seen as it was only classed as minor before the season started.
I’d like to see him upfront with Joelinton just behind him. He’s by far our best finisher but his injury is strange.
Also we could do with Saint-Maximin being back ASAP. Him and Atsu on the wings is pretty exciting.
Also I don’t like to say it because I really like the lad but I don’t see Almiron being a starter once Ritchie, Carroll and Saint-Maximin are back. He’s a nuisance and a gives everything but he just doesn’t provide much other than effort. I really hope he gets a goal soon but it doesn’t look likely.

Do you think Steve Bruce has heard of him and will how to know the best way to link him up with Joelinton and Almiron?

I’d like Werner too but I doubt we’re going to pay the £90m+ that they quoted Bayern in the Summer lol

Comment #25€60m lol I very much doubt that. He’s one of the most highly rated strikers in Europe. The bigger clubs were priced out of a move for him. He’s young, fast and prolific.
Then there’s the small issue of him wanting to join a relegation battling Newcastle side.
Maybe when he’s 35 we’ll have a chance.
