Florian Lejeune has tweeted the following picture of himself and Allan Saint-Maximin as they continue to recover from their injuries.

— Florian Lejeune (@lejeune_florian) September 19, 2019
It was about three weeks ago when Steve Bruce said that both Florian and Andy Carroll would return to training in ‘two to three weeks.” Well, Andy made his return last week, so maybe we can expect to Florian back shortly as well.
There was a report in the Shields Gazette this morning that Allan Saint-Maximin and Matt Ritchie could be available next week at Leicester City.
We also saw that Dwight Gayle was spotted in full training today. This was a bit of a surprise as Steve Bruce indicated Dwight would be completely shut down due to his calf injury just last week.
The injury situation is starting to look a little brighter as these players get closer to making their returns. It’s looking like Bruce may get many of them back around the same time.
Andy Carroll, Dwight Gayle, and DeAndre Yedlin have all returned to training while Matt Ritchie, Allan Saint-Maximin, and Florian Lejeune are getting very close. That leaves Sean Longstaff, who was not pictured in training today; however, his ankle injury is not thought to be a serious one.

I’m sure what you’re saying has some merit, there are definitely things that are not acceptable today that were a generation ago. That doesn’t make it right, of course. And if beardo didn’t know that, then someone should have educated him on it

I’m not condoning what he allegedly said and did. I just think that sometimes these young kids need to ‘man up’ a bit and get on with it. We live in a culture now where everyone wants everything handed to them on a plate, everybody is frightened to say what they think or mean and people fake outrage at things if they think there’s the chance of a quid or two in it for them.
Surely, whatever Beardsley said to any of them is nothing worse than they would have heard elsewhere.
It’s a shame because, in my opinion, Peter Beardsley is the best footballer that I’ve seen at Newcastle. Better than Shearer in my opinion.; certainly more skilled but all of that will be forever tarnished by this.

Very apt for Ashley – a new corporate logo using its trademark FCUK along with an image of him and his V signing fingers….

We don’t know of the circumstances that led to the charges made stains Beardo. In any event, it doesn’t make the club look too good either as it should have ensured that Beardo was adequately trained to ensure he didn’t use such language. He was, in his role as a coach to young people, expected to be both a role model and extremely professional in his approach to dealing with them.
It may be that those youngsters were so peed off with his behaviour, bullying or humiliating them for example, that they’ve resorted to playing the race card to get at him. And that is why anyone in a position such as his should be ultra professional at all times. It’s called protecting ones back – ask any teacher or trainer.

I agree,we don’t know the circumstances. However, my opinion of the modern generation still stands.
The main point of my post was that, in my opinion, Beardsley is the best footballer I’ve seen play for Newcastle in my time and it is a crying shame, regardless of the circumstances and who is to blame, that future generations will read about him as an alleged bully and racist rather than one of the most skilled footballers to wear the black and white shirt.

Comment #52On the MLS striker, amazing scoring rate, 2/3 shots on target. Can’t judge solely on performance in other leagues, he may be a different player now, maturing with age.
I’d definitely sign him. BUT, I’d speak with someone who’d really know first. Hmm… Who could that be, Miggy?

It’s good to be careful what one says and be professional and protect one’s own back, but it’s just easier to not be racist.
Not saying that Beardsley is, mind. He vehemently denies it. Politically correct language was much less used in the past.
I don’t think Justin is racist either. He seems to be one of the good guys on the world stage.

Lee Churnley could have realised what a terrible coach he was, took some of the early complaints seriously and quietly got rid of him before it got to this. But no, he’d said nice things about Mikey so he was one of the boys and we’ll drag the club’s name through the mud because of that.

Comment #56Birtleymag, that sort of language went out with live thy neighbour and Jim Davidson ( always hated that bloke – horrible man ), Beardsley worked in the coaching system – I’m sure it was probably mentioned on every course / seminar about racist talk etc, apparently he actually attended a kick it out seminar then went back to work and started calling them names hahaha couldn’t make it up – he’s a dickhead for just carrying on regardless , great footballer, terrible coach , bit of a thick get

Comment #59Beardsley should have been removed from the post years ago for being terrible at coaching!Wonder how many players that have fell through the cracks at Newcastle because of his incompetence?! Performance doesn’t seem to be a metric that gets measured at Newcastle under Ashley though if you are happy to kiss his cheeks in public you have a job for life!
He was a great player but he really needs to move with the times the fact there has been lots of bullying evidence over the years should maybe make him realise that his approach maybe isn’t the best?

Comment #62I see Brendan Rodgers is saying that he doubts he can hold onto James Maddison if the big boys come after him.
Absolutely true of course – just like McGuire, Mahrez, Kante, Drinkwater etc., before him.
And guess what…
All of those players mentioned were signed young for low fees and sold on.
So why is it that NUFC gets dogs of abuse from fans for a policy of signing young players with a, hopefully, high future sell on value?
Unfortunately, as much as I hate us selling our best players as much as any fan, that’s the way of the football world when the elite clubs can pay the elite wages the others can’t.
Leicester must have got over £200M in fees since they won the League and they haven’t spent anything like that amount so don’t tell me “at least they reinvest it”.
By comparison the amount we’ve received since then is chickenfeed
Unearthing future mega money players and then finding two or three gems to replace them with the money is one of the only ways clubs like NUFC can compete with and hope to break into the big boys.
Any fan who thinks otherwise is being passionate, but unrealistic.

It’s because every year we are in a continual relegation battle overseen by an owner who doesn’t care one iota about any kind of footballing success, the training facilities are antiquated and our once proud stadium is falling to bits while having the stench of blue and red signs on every spare inch, that’s why.

I’ve reworded that last paragraph for you, I felt it necessary.
“Unearthing future mega money players and then finding two or three gems to replace them with the money is one of the only ways clubs like NUFC can compete with and hope to break into the big boys and by not hiring washed up Championship managers desperate for a job in the PL with the sole remit of just avoiding relegation”

I remember in one of your staunch defences of Ashley you cited Peter Beardsley in one of your posts. “If Ashley is alright in Peter Beardsleys eyes he’s alright by me” or something along those lines. We now all know why PB has been so generous in his praise of our portly owner over the years, he’s kept him gainfully employed in a position of power in a job way above his head, if he had performed so woefully at SD he’d been shown the door years ago, but as Mukey doesn’t give a foot about the youngsters success it’s been ok.

“It does not have a glamour tag on it, but I am really interested to see how they will both go about it.
“Steve Bruce has done a decent job so far and he is trying to ease the tension between him and the fans, who will expect their side to win this match.
“It is a golden opportunity for these players to help Bruce slide into a decent position.
“Joelinton will find his feet, while Miguel Almiron is playing on the edge of games and has been tame at times – it is time for him to fire.
“Brighton started the season superbly, but then what has Graham Potter’s style been thereafter?
“Their back three is always consistent in what they give you, but Newcastle will find ways to exploit it.
“Prediction is Newcastle 3 Brighton 1.”

Comment #76Scarcely believe what I’m reading with insinuation that Beardsley may have been harshly treated and aren’t kids a bit soft when he’s calling black players monkeys and talking about climbing trees. He should have gotten a life ban.
Added to that I have it on first hand authority that he is a horrible bloke. Absolute snide who talks about everybody behind their backs. He also has a lot of previous for being a bully going back years.
Absolutely wonderful footballer but terrible human being.

Leicester do invest a lot though Tielemans , Perez and Praet cost about 90 million and they don’t add the wages to the deals inflating the cost either!!
Slimani , Ineacho all were 20 to 30 million players and they signed Maddison for 20 million as well so can’t really say they don’t invest properly!
What Leicester do is they don’t mess about with transfers so when they are selling a player they already have his replacement at the club (Ndidi for example when Drinkwater left) or are ready to buy players straight away whereas at Newcastle under Ashley we have went more than a few windows replacing some players……

Comment #80As for Leicester parallel if you can start any sentence about selling players for profit with ‘After Leicester WON THE LEAGUE’ then yes I,’d quite happily be Leicester but we are not and never will be under Ashley. Every club sells v good players for profit and reshapes their squads even the Top 4. We just want to subsist in the league just above the relegation places and have no demonstrable desire from the club to win anything.
