How Will Newcastle Do In ‘Six Pointer’ Against ‘Bitter’ Brighton On Saturday?

In what captain Jamaal Lascelle’s has called a ‘six-pointer,’ Newcastle will host Brighton on Saturday afternoon. It’s undoubtedly a vital fixture even if it is still only September.

Newcastle fell into the relegation zone on Monday. Due to the tough set of fixtures to start the season, that is not too much of a surprise. However, this is one of the early matches Newcastle are expected to win.

We could see the return of Andy Carroll if all goes well over the next few days of training. Sean Longstaff and Fabian Schar also are reportedly in contention to make the squad.

It is too soon for Matt Ritchie, Allan Saint-Maximin, and DeAndre Yedlin though they are making good progress from their injuries.

This is what Jamaal Lascelles told NUFC TV about the importance of the Brighton game:

“We’ve played some good football, and now against Brighton, we need to be really pushing to get the three points out of that game.

“These games are six-pointers. At home to Brighton, we’ve definitely got to fancy ourselves.

“They could be competition for us, so anyone who’s going to be in and around us, we need to be taking points from Saturday is the right time to do that.”

He also noted that due to their battle in the Championship three years ago how this fixture has now become a contentious affair:

“The majority of the season we were top and quite a few points ahead, and towards the end they overtook us. They probably thought they’d come first, and we got them at the end.

“They’ve got a bit of bitterness towards us, and every time we play them in the Premier League, it’s a bit more than a normal game.”

We’ll expect Brighton to be up for the match as they always are. The lads really need to get three points on the board in this one. Next week it will be away to Leicester, and then it’s home against Manchester United.

How Will Newcastle Do Against Brighton On Saturday?

  • Win (73%, 1,126 )
  • Draw (16%, 238 )
  • Loss (11%, 168 )

Jib I know senior people who work in accountancy with colleagues in the major auditors where they used to work who long before Grant Thornton walked away said major firms would not deal with them because they are a nightmare and want to bend things shall we say. Essentially there is corporate dishonesty running through anything Ashley touches like a stick of rock.

Yet again you come up with a speculative unsubstantiated generous defence of the regime. Why on earth would anybody who supports Newcastle consistently go in to bat for Ashley and SD. Yeh it’s just bad PR! Even if it was, why do they have bad PR.

Sorry but when other posters like NUFC83 say it’s just you providing a balanced view I do not believe that. You have a very transparent pro-Ashley agenda.

Now whether you’re just a contrarian or there is something more nefarious in play I can’t say. What I’ll repeat though is if you’re not on the regime’s payroll you should be.

By all means it’s looking like we will loose, if Martin Atkinson gets his way.

I rate Martin Atkinson as one of the better refs
He gives out loads of yellows but in15 years has only ever
    given under 70 direct reds

I could google Atkinson not liking any PL club and the
usual whining types would moan about him.
I think the Gunners have a web page about how much he hates them

The fans would have more chance of opening up communications with SBR using a ouija board than any sort of talks with Ashley.

Its other way round. Ashley has burnt all bridges.
He hasnt communicated much with the fans in his 12 years.
He even said he wont change his way.
The nust have been speaking to him for 2 years now.
How far has that got them?
No fans forum yeah right man.
Honestly the time for talking with ashley was years ago.
    This is war now.

Jib I cant really disagree with you too much there, but I bring it up because enough media coverage on the situation kinda forced him to be impartial.

He wasn’t bad when we played Arsenal on opening match, but you reminded me he doesnt like them either so that could be why. But saying nothing and hoping he refs it right is risky. I don’t actually know if he hates Newcastle but it’s no harm making him aware that we are aware of it.

Jib, the NUST has always been very reasonable in its dealings with Ashley. All they’ve ever asked for is a closer dialogue and a place on the board.

It’s got them nowhere. How would you suggest we encourage a closer dialogue with the club?

On topic – normally I’m quite confident when we play Brighton but their new manager seems to have improved them so I think it’s going to be a nail-biter and not the type of game I enjoy. Plus the 5.30 KO on a Saturday night is a complete pain in the backside – good for you TV fans but not so good for going to the game.
