Steve Bruce has some good news this morning for the Newcastle faithful. He has confirmed that Andy Carroll and Allan Saint-Maximin are likely to be available for Brighton on Saturday. As we expected, Fabian Schar’s calf problem at Liverpool was not serious at all. This is the injury update Steve has given per BBC Newcastle’s Matthew Raisbeck.
Steve Bruce, speaking to @bbcnewcastle about Andy Carroll: “He’s fit and will be part of the squad tomorrow, which I’m delighted about. We’ve been dealt a few blows with some big injuries – hopefully, this is a sign of better things to come.” #NUFC

Bruce: “Fabian Schär is OK. It was cramp, so that’s good news for us, as well. Allan Saint-Maximin – he looks as if he’s going to make it, too” #NUFC @bbcnewcastle

Lee Ryder has tweeted an update on Sean Longstaff who was missing from training yesterday. He will miss his second straight match as Brighton is too soon for the midfielder.
#nufc boss Steve Bruce said game was too early for Sean Longstaff, still out with ankle injury

The Athletic’s Chris Waugh has tweeted some very intriguing news in that Steve Bruce sees a role for Joelinton on the left so that both he and Andy can play together.
Bruce: "I saw Joelinton play for Hoffenheim against Man City down the left. A lot of teams play three up front. I have no problem playing him & Andy Carroll together, & even with Saint-Maximin as well in a three at some point" #nufc

This is some excellent news minus the Longstaff injury of course. We hope the club is absolutely certain that Carroll and Saint-Maximin are ready to go. We would expect both to start from the bench tomorrow but could feature at some point.

Yes good news but under this shower and past form you can’t help thinking its players rushed back to move tickets ?

Comment #3It 100% is players being rushed back, in my opinion too. But we cang presume to know their fitness, so I’m gonna hold off on anything negative untill they get reoccurring injuries. Then I’ll crucify Brucey, lol

Comment #4New role for Joelinton, he could try winning the ball in the air and having a shot on goal for a start.

That’s harsh on Joelinton, I think he’s done well considering the scraps he’s had to feed off. His hold play and link play has been really good aswell

Comment #6Jib, sometimes I think you paly the idiot on purpose
Perez was our highest goalscorer and played as second striker
We did not replace him , you’ve cited a couple of average defenders , Robson’s replacement , a winger and a complete crock as his replacement ???

Comment #7I’ve been impressed with joelinton so far. If he keeps improving he looks like he could be a good player for us.
Would be amazing to have Carrol and Maximin to bring on tomorrow.

Comment #9I wonder how long Carroll will last as a CF to enable Joelinton to get used to his new role on the left before being thrown in to his original and unfamiliar role of being up top on his own. This footer is making it up as he goes along.

Comment #10A guy on total sport last night saying last year we lost 4-0 at Lpool playing defensively, we only lost 3-1 this year and at least had a go, foes having one shot on goal all game constitute having a go?

Comment #11Be interesting to see ASM play a full game to see what he’s going to bring to the team, hopefully he can last more than 20 mins and Brighton at home should be a perfect game to showcase talents

Comment #13These football analysts have to say something and generally it’s something clueless.
Much as I’d love Carroll to somehow rediscover his fitness and form pre Liverpool it’s highly unlikely , in fact it’s just not going to happen and we’re more likely to get an even slower West Ham crocked version

Comment #14Jib, it must be hard dealing with senility although given your age it’s to be expected , remember mate – there’s no need to be a dick, remember you were probably a lot less bitter and maybe even a nice guy when you were a lot younger 😀

Nothing wrong at all with buying young players. However, Rafa’s point was you do need some experience like for example Rondon, our player of the season.
You also need top coaches to develop these youngsters, We’ve lost that now.

Comment #16It’s a bit damning of Rafa when our player of the season
was a striker whose record was 11 goals in 32 matches

Comment #18I think we can draw this one and boost our tally of points, if we can get away without injuries I’ll be happy. Lets slowly build towards a close knit unit and finish the season well. We need less of the unrealistic expectations and more of the reality of where we are in terms of gelling the new players who have come in this season.

Comment #19I put a £1000 away in the house to go towards season tickets for myself and my nephew this season if Rafa stayed or Ashley left.
Forgot all about the money, it’s been sat in a jar in a cupboard for over 6 months.
Going to keep half for a away day with the bairn and have a good weekend with the rest.
🙂

Comment #20Please don’t rush any of them. We have enough to beat Brighton with the team we put out against Liverpool.
Joelnton is more of a RWF than LWF if we’re going to end up playing Carroll and him at the same time.
I just want to see a Yedlin-ASM partnership down the RW pretty soon, in place of Almiron-Krafth, because we’re unbalanced at the moment with the RW providing little so far this season, except for when Hayden roams there.
3pts against Brighton and a bunch of returning players will be a good platform going into another tough run.

Comment #21Actually don’t mind the sound of that front 3 from SB, not much tracking back though haha.
Keep the centre of the park solid and can work though.
I’m predicting same starting line up as Liverpool with ASM and Carroll to both get 15-20mins

Comment #22The starting 3 should be ASM, joelinton, Almiron
Yet to see them 3 as a trio as spurs game ASM got injured

Comment #23Think it’s a bit early to say we’ve lost the coaching aspect, weve done better than I expected tbf with the exception of norwich game.
3 points is a must on Saturday but Brighton have looked good this season so far

Comment #24As I said to Jail earlier, if Bruce lost 4-0 , like rafa did, to lievrpool he wud still be killing him. Give the geezer a chance and hope for best i say
