Alan Shearer Speaks About Brighton, Season So Far, And Almiron

Alan Shearer has spoken to Coral about this afternoon’s Brighton match, the season so far, and Miguel Almiron. Coral have posted that clip online.

It’s not comforting to talk about relegation battles this early in the season. We are not sure this should be classified as that just yet, but it is a match that Newcastle should be getting three points from. A loss today could see us bottom of the table. And with Leicester City and Manchester United coming up, we could be down there for some time.

However, this is also an opportunity to get three points on the board and slowly start to climb the league table. We have every reason to believe the lads can do just that this afternoon.

We also agree with Alan’s assessment on Newcastle’s season so far. Things have quieted down a bit since the Norwich display, and that’s been helped by the fantastic win at Spurs. The draw against Watford, though, was a disappointment with it being at home against a struggling side.

Miguel Almiron has provided Newcastle with a threat since joining the club. We saw that in his first appearance for the club when he came on against Wolves in February. While he has not chipped in with any goals or assists, he is still an essential member of the team.

A couple Joelinton goals along with one by Almiron would be just what Newcastle need today. If the lads can get off to a comfortable lead, it may be best to not risk Andy Carroll or Allan Saint-Maximin and give them that extra week of training.

Ashley and his minion Charnley are puss filled growths at our club. Poisoning us all. Today I hope we get the performance and result we need but if we don’t then I’ll take the consolation that it would potentially move us one step closer to getting rid of them if we head towards the trap door. I can’t muster any enthusiasm for Bruce. I did love Big Andy first time around and hope he can get back to something approaching that player again. He’s something to look forward to if involved.

Looks a decent 11, Neil. I think we’ll need to concentrate on our MF in future windows. Longstaff is injured or not quite there yet this season. Hayden is a warrior, but not much flair. Shelvey, well the game passes him by these days. Ki not in form.

Three points guaranteed today lads. Wor lass is coming with me today and she’s never seen us even concede, let alone lose. She has only attended five games, but we’ve won every one when she’s been there, so don’t see why it won’t continue today. 2-0 sounds about right. HTL

Shareholder advisory group Pirc last week said that according to the Companies Act an auditor must be appointed by the end of the meeting where the accounts are laid.

What it boils down to is the rules say he must have an auditor, they claim those rules dont apply as they are in the process of appointing one, but have refused to give details or dates

It is highly likely the LSE will suspend SD shares on Monday for fear of bringing the entire exchanging into dis repute

This will force the government to act

From catch up, I was at the QPR game and we played our usual style, QPR largely on the front foot and we caught them on the break twice. Second half after the 3rd they really lost their shape in desperation to get back in the game and we gained more of a foothold and control in the game. Although it might be fair to say that we could have played two up top and been more attacking in the championship, the QPR game was not an example of this.
However, if with a somewhat fortunate conclusion with BHA losing so many, we did finish champions with most goals scored and least conceded, so to criticise the tactical decisions from the seasons perspective seems a bit off, although from an entertainment perspective, OK.

As for the Norwich game, that was an exciting a finish as I’ve seen in a match. The introduction of the two up top happened when Norwich were sitting back and defending their lead. Who knows how the match would have gone if we had started with two up top.
Personally i would have liked to have seen us play Gayle and Mitro up top at home against the ‘lesser’ teams, like Blackburn, who defended deep and did us on the counter.
It’s interesting that we beat Brighton in the championship home and away when they were mostly on the front foot against us, but have failed to take three points from them in the premier league where they tend to sit deep and play us on the counter, at least at at At James.
