Atsu, Manquillo, And Shelvey Start Against Brighton – Carroll And Saint-Maximin On Bench

This is the side that Steve Bruce has just announced for the match today. It features just one change from Liverpool with Javier Manquillo coming in at right-back for Emil Krafth.

The bench is much stronger in attacking options as Andy Carroll and Allan Saint-Maximin make the match-day squad. It looks like the formation will be a 5-4-1 or 3-4-3. Jonjo Shelvey also gets a second straight start for the injured Sean Longstaff. This game should suit him much better than away to Liverpool.

Depending on how the game unfolds, we could see the return of Andy Carroll in the black and white stripes. What a moment that will be for the local lad. Also we could get to see new signing Allan Saint-Maximin who has only featured for 40 minutes this season due to his hamstring injury.

This is the team that Brighton will send out to face the lads.

This is massive for the lads. It has the potential to be a scriptwriters dream if Andy comes on and finds the back of the net.

Howay The Lads!

Proper and Stephen’s bossing shelvey and hayden. Even with longstaff in there we would struggle today with the set up.

Defensively we are all over the place, longstaff would have better legs than shelvey in there tho. Almiron seems to be lacking just a little in the final 3rd but his overall game is good enough to keep him in. Atsu needs to help Willems.

Big chance for joelinton there aswell, we just need to slow it down and take more time on the ball. All Brighton attacks coming down our left with willems exposed by atsu not working hard enough and shelvey not having the legs to cover in midfield

Bruce has clearly confused Willems in regards to positioning
he should be hugging the left touch line
but bruce appears to have moved him central
which is ironically creating more gaps in midfield

Precisely T22. Rafa was tight stitches across a gaping wound and these morons couldn’t wait to pull them out and put a cheap Bruce brand elastoplast loosely across it. No surprise we’re now p*ssing claret everywhere.
