Newcastle Set For Midfield Lift But May Have Another Player With An Issue

Newcastle are set for a boost this weekend with the possible return of Sean Longstaff. The Telegraph have a report saying that the 22-year-old should be available for the trip to Leicester City.

Sean suffered an ankle injury during the week leading to the Liverpool match. He has missed the past two fixtures and has been a big loss. His ability to cover a lot of ground was definitely a miss the past two weekends. Getting Sean back for Leicester City should provide a lift to the team.

It apparently is coming at an opportune time. In the same report, it says that Jonjo Shelvey is still having issues from the thigh injury that limited him last season. The report states that the problem is really limiting Jonjo’s mobility. Considering that he is not the most agile player to begin with, that is a concern.

The report also states that Dwight Gayle is set to return to training this week. We would assume that means full training as he was spotted working with his teammates last week. Gayle could be set to make his return to the pitch sometime next month.

We are also awaiting an update on Matt Ritchie who is thought to be close to a return. He was initially thought to be lost for two months but all indications are that he is well ahead of that original projection. We would expect that Matt would want to make his return at Leicester City as that is the team that he suffered his ankle injury against.

Getting both Sean Longstaff and Matt Ritchie back should shore up some of the issues we saw against Brighton. Both players cover a lot of ground and Matt Ritchie is relentless at tormenting opposition players when they are in possession. That is something we saw very little of this past weekend.

    God knows but I won’t fall for it hook line and sinker what did I say something like:

    “I truly believe that come the start of the season Ashley will be gone and we can start to rebuild”

    The one thing I actually praised you for was sticking to the message that he is lying and it won’t happen etc.

    @Nufc83

    It has been widely reported that Newcastle offered Rafa the same contract with less control over transfers Ashley even admitted that they were trying to force Rafa to sign off on Joellinton and the other deals where in the pipeline so how can that be right eh!? Not putting them across as fact at all just mentioning what has reported which has been a bit similar to everyone claiming about the 61 million budget as fact which was never confirmed by anyone at the club……

    Mike Ashley would rather see us go into administration than win anything. He despises us. He could have out things right years ago but due to his own ego plays cat and mouse with the fans year in year out. Stop giving him your money people.

    Our next 2 games are on Sky Sports Leicester and Man Utd on the Sunday games I see?

    Imagine we somehow beat Man Utd? Ole would end up getting sacked!

    Magpie ranger you believe fully that MA wants us to go into administration? I don’t even think he could be that stupid as to wish a 400m asset down the drain.

    Lee Charnley I guess we will just need to see at the end of the season. I read it was 50 odd million plus sales so about 80m. Hard to know what Joelinton was so let’s say 32m and ASM 18m and Krafth was 5m. There should be easy 20m to spend in Jan.

    Why is he continously making horrific decisions year in year out? Do you really think he cares about NUFC or their fans? If it meant Mike Ashley losing money OF COURSE he would rather see us go into administration.

    @Nufc83

    I suppose the issue is even if we do have 20 million available we are going to have to still shift out players to make room for new players unless they are under 21?

    So maybe if we quickly got rid of Elliot, Shelvey, Gayle and say one of our 3 right backs then we could bring in a few players?

    So Shelvey is still carrying an injury, puts his alleged laziness and poor mobility into a different perspective does it not.

    @Essex Geordie Bill

    That would explain a lot of things but then why are we playing him if he isn’t fit?

    Or is that an excuse for not winning a single tackle against Brighton?

    Magpie ranger sorry I am not following your logic you say on one hand he wants to make money then on the other he wants to flush away a 400m asset.

    Essex no not really has anyone noticed a considerable difference in his work ethic, tenacity and desire? He’s been like this for years so must have been a bad injury.

    Despite his claims of turning HoF in to the Harrods of the high street he bought them purely for the 350M worth of stock for 90M, he didn’t give a foot that he would be sending such a famous institution and the jobs that came with it under, we have got that to look forward to when we stop making him money.

    MagpieRanger,
    The Fenway Group bought Lpool to make money, the Leicester owners the same, I don’t think either set of fans have a problem with that, my most hated saying when talking to fellow fans is that ”ah, Ashley is just a businessman” they all are!

    Eh, Spurs beaten by Colchester, Pocho is going to go bananas, the team they had out would have done for a PL show if a few injuries were about!
