Steve Bruce Gives Emphatic Response To Earlier Reports About Player’s Availability

Earlier in the week, there was a report in the Telegraph stating that Newcastle’s medical team feared Andy Carroll wouldn’t be able to start a game until after Christmas at the earliest. While we thought this was a little extreme, we could see some merit in it.

Ever since Andy Carroll made his return, we have felt that he would be best as a late-game option. Our reason for this was two-fold. First, we were concerned about Andy’s body being able to hold up starting games week in and out. His fitness history points to this being a reasonable fear.

We were also worried that Steve Bruce would end up relying on Carroll if he couldn’t get Joelinton and Miguel Almiron scoring goals. We just don’t think Andy can be relied on this season and would prefer Bruce figure a way to get Joelinton, Almiron, and Saint-Maximin to gel in the final third.

Therefore, we were not overly concerned with the Telegraph’s reporting. As long as Andy was available off the bench, it was fine with us. Though we would like to see him make the odd start here and there.

Steve Bruce has responded to the claim that Andy would not be starting until close to the new year. This was Bruce’s response to that claim:

“Yes, of course he could. Christmas? Bloody hell! I certainly hope so.”

From Bruce’s emphatic remark, we would surmise that Andy will be available to start a game or two in the next few months. We just hope that it is not week after week.

Well that’s good news, but can’t see him completing a full game for a while. Watching match of the day is depressing, most teams look so much more competent than us. Maybe only Watford, and then we could only draw with them. Hopefully when everyone is back from injury and they practice hitting the back of the net, we might have a chance of scrapping our way to safety.

Do any of the forwards stay back after training for shooting practice, you know like Alan Shearer did? It’s horendous the way they sky there shots at goal. All the attempts they have non on target.

Gen, all for the Boycott, seems to be getting some traction, just don’t want the team to go down, well at least without a fight.

Sadly though I don’t think Bruce has it in him to get the lads in the same frame as Rafa had them.
