The Daily Star have a report that states Steve Bruce will be without five players for Sunday’s match against Manchester United. However, it’s who is not mentioned that could be positive news for Newcastle.
First, the report says that Matt Ritchie is likely not going to be ready for this weekend. While we desperately miss Ritchie’s presence in the squad, this is not really a shock. With the second international break on the horizon, it’s probably best that Matt will get the extra few weeks to fully recover from his ankle injury.
Next, the report moves to the midfield duo of Isaac Hayden and Jonjo Shelvey. Hayden will, of course, not feature due to his 3-match ban for the straight red card at Leicester City.
Shelvey missed out on Sunday due to a hamstring injury. During his press conference last week, Bruce said that Jonjo was likely to miss a couple of weeks. So these two are not a surprise at all.
Finally, the last two of the five are long-term casualties, Florian Lejeune and Dwight Gayle. Lejeune returned to training last week and will likely not be available for selection until after the break. Dwight Gayle has been seen in training on a few occasions but still is likely a few weeks away with his calf injury.
Jetro Willems– will he be fit for Sunday?
The positive news is that Jetro Willems was not named in the report as being out for Sunday. Willems missed the Leicester City thrashing with a knee problem. His and Ritchie’s absence forced Steve Bruce’s hand in going to a back four, which proved disastrous. Hopefully, Jetro will be back for Sunday’s Manchester United match.

Comment #2We can certainly beat Man U, they look very average. Mata always plays well against us though and think Martial will be back on the bench.
We need to get on the front foot and get the crowd interested, Saint-Maximin hopefully will impress (and not get re-injured)

Comment #5If players are telling the manager how to play then something is deeply wrong , may as well let the players take training themselves and sack the whole management team … Ashley can save a few bob too

Comment #6Off topic but can any of you younger guys who understand these things more than a dinosaur like me explain what Bernardo Silva has done so wrong and is now being charged. He simply posted a picture of his friend Mendy as a baby with a cartoon character saying something like spot the difference – as a joke. Obviously as Mendy is black it was going to be a black cartoon character. His friend Mendy took no offence yet there are cries of racism and he is being charged by the FA. I don’t see the difference between this and, say, comparing Lee Charnley to Penfold – the obvious difference is of course they are both white!

Comment #8Because as soon as the “R” word is mentioned
reaction is way OTT and defies all logic
I know it’s not the same circumstances
But
A similar over-reaction and display of muddled thinking

Comment #10The Silva thing has been blown out of all proportion due to the fact kick it out mentioned it was racist when in reality it was a bit of banter between two friends… As Job points out, same happened with been and munchetty…. World’s gone mad

Comment #11Jib, where did you read that re: Ryder …can’t imagine they’d let press anywhere near and even if he’s at ground and held glass to door to hear then letting cat out of bag he’ll be banned for life

Comment #14Also I’d imagine the players wanting to go back to 3 at the back is an educated guess knowing they are more comfortable in that formation and it worked last season (For Rafa obviously).

Comment #15If you are a black person in a majority white world it can be a problem. Folks see your colour first and you as a person second. Same is true if you are a white person in a majority black world.
If people are offended we need to listen. Otherwise you end up saying you have no reason to be offended and you are wrong.
It is a question of levels. This is a injudicious tweet done on the spur of the moment. Folks have their say and then we all move on. If you start a judgement procedure that is way too much you have a problem. People are scared to say anything and will not express themselves.
They take their views underground and only speak with like minded folks.
Also, he did not mean to make the person feel bad about themselves or undermine him in any way. Another factor.

The beeb thing is completely different.
She was asked her opinion on something Trump said, people didn’t like the fact a newsreader was giving their opinion.
People want facts off news readers not personal opinion.
Although the other incident was just between friends lots of people took offense to the monkey cartoon character.
Imo just right too, millions of kids look up to these players.
If that’s overlooked how long until monkey calls and bananas are thrown again??

Comment #19I think he’s been charged because that kick it out organisation have kicked up a big fuss about it basically. You’ve also got the pc brigade on social media who’d complain if someone swears on EastEnders before the watershed threatning to burn their bras and boxer shorts.

Comment #203 at the back can be defensive or attacking.
When I ran a team at a very average level we tried 3/5/2 a view times. The lads could never quite accept it.
If their RW goes on a forward run who marks him. Our LWB or our left sided CB.
Anyone want to answer that.
We were never sure.

As far as I know he has not been given an improved contract.
Did Man U make a serious 20/30M bid. If they did the player will know.
If they did in my view you have to sell the player or go some way to putting him on a deal commensurate with being a 20/30M player.
Why. If Longstaff gets badly hurt in an instant no one is interested in him.
The essence of pro sport. You must get the best deal possible when it is there.

Comment #24#BoycottAshley ( OP) @18 – The conguitos character looks nothing like a monkey so I still don’t get it. The character has no hair and a round face as did Mendy when he was young which is obviously what Silva was getting at – anything else and people are seeing things that aren’t there!
