Isaac Hayden and Jonjo Shelvey are not available for the crucial home game against Manchester United on Sunday.
So it looks like the experienced former captain of South Korea, Ki Sung-yueng will get a start.
Ki is a good and experienced player but hasn’t yet shown his top form in this his final year of this contract at Newcastle.
The 30-year-old came on to replace Issac Hayden late in the first half after Isaac was sent off for a dangerous tackle om Dennis Praet and he will be out for three games.
Ki Sung-yueng – angry about Leicester performance
Ki has been interviewed today in the Chronicle and has said the following:
“We have to show it on the pitch, or there’s no point in making claims.” “I didn’t know what to say after the game, the fans stayed behind us.”
“In that type of game, it is difficult to find the words to say to the fans or the media.” “I just feel sorry for the fans.” “They came all the way to Leicester.”
“We’re still disappointed but we still have to move forward in the next game against Man United.”
“It’s a home game and it’s crucial.” “I think we have to be ready and we have to go out there as a team.”
“I still believe in all the players next to me.” “We have shown last season what we can do.” “Since then we have added more quality players from good leagues.”
“We have to stay focused on what we have to do.”
“Of course I am angry.” “When you lose games like that you feel worse.”
“A 5-0 is difficult for any player but it has already happened, we can’t reverse this.”
“We have to get ready for Man United.” “It is crucial.
“You don’t know what will happen after that.”
“For me I still believe in the players.” “We have quality and we can still play good football.
“We have to recover as quickly as possible and then show on the pitch on Sunday.”
What really shocked fans on Sunday afternoon was how poor and disinterested our players looked in the second half, when we were down to 10 men.
Where was the never-say-die attitude the same players had under Rafa Benitez for the last three years?
The players’ attitude and readiness for games is a reflection of the manager, and Steve Bruce has to get the players playing for the shirt.
If he cannot inspire our players, then he will not last long: the manager has to get the best out of the players he has – like Rafa did.
We’ve had two absolutely pathetic performances in a row – against Norwich and Leicester – and it cannot be the same on Sunday.
There can be no excuses against Manchester United – who are not playing well.
If things do go to hell in a handbasket, as they did with Steve McClaren, then Lee Charnley cannot make the same stupid mistake he made with the incompetent McClaren.
McClaren should have been sacked months earlier than he finally was – back in March 2016.
If Steve Bruce doesn’t produce before the end of the year – then Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley have to bring a new manager in and not leave it too late this time.
But both men at the top of Newcastle have a safety-first attitude and can never be accused of being bold.
For them, Steve Bruce was “a safe pair of hands.”
That’s the level of ambition at Newcastle since 2007 when Ashley bought the club – and it sucks.
We are still hoping for a surprise takeover before the end of the year, so we can once again bring together the great Newcastle fans and the City to fully support the team.
That’s one significant strength Newcastle have always had – its fans.
But a takeover is probably another dream and the likelihood of that happening is small – at best.
But we still have some hope Newcastle can be rescued from Ashley.

It’s no surprise to see you defending racism and twisting facts.
The two incidents are like chalk and cheese, to say both are overreactions shows how out of touch and narrow minded you are.

Comment #2Lindisfarne no apologies needed I don’t think you were being derogatory. I think we are all having a reasonable discussion which is what is always needed. Open dialogue will always achieve more.

Comment #3Lindisfarne – I’m honestly not trying to be obtuse but just trying to understand what the problem was and to be honest I still don’t but I’ll let it drop as it’s obviously starting to upset people!

Comment #5Martoon, the character in the picture is apparently a Golliwog type and had negative connotations (Like you I didn’t realise this initially until someone else elaborated).
If Silva compared Mendy to this knowing the type of character and the negative aspects then I’d say fair enough, thats bang out of order.
The impression I get though (and an impression is all any one of us whose name isn’t Silva or Mendy can have at this stage) is that Silva was having banter with his friend and though he looked like this cartoon character, did he know of the negative golliwog aspects ? Personally I doubt it.

Comment #8On a separate note, rumours have it that the malaise at Tottenham is being caused by Vertonghen having had relations with Errikson’s Mrs and Kane decking Jannsen.

I do not wish to write about all the things that are wrong with the logo, I can not understand why a company would wish to use such a character but it should be sufficient to say that it is a negative representation of a racial type. Therefore it could be described as being a ‘racist’ image. I presume Silva innocently used the image but was wrong to do so as it has racist connotations.

Comment #14But why did Kane deck Jannsen, did he sleep with Erikson’s Mrs as well or was vertonghen a bit too big for him

Comment #16Jails not wrong with the spurs debacle
Tottenham Hotspur FC.
Jan Vertonghen caught sleeping with Christian Eriksen wife.
Harry Kane got involved, big dressing room bust up.
Club refusing to offer Vertonghen a new contract. Eriksen was due to join Real Madrid but personal reasons stopped the deal.
Half the players not taking to each other, Eriksen said he’s not in a good place to play football.
Pochettino unable to resolve the situation, likely to join Real Madrid in the summer and take Eriksen with him and possibly Kane.

Comment #18Lindisfarne @11 – I still didn’t understand your explanation so I Googled it and this explains it quite well:
http://morethanpaellapartiesandplaya.blogspot.com/2014/06/culture-shock-conguitos-golpe-de.html
As I had to research it I’m sure you’re right that it was an innocent mistake by Silva so I don’t know why the FA are getting involved which is adding fuel on the fire imo.

Thanks for that article.
“”Conguitos are a chocolate-coated peanut sweet”” is of very slight comfort, but even then it is still a charecterisation of an entire nation that trivalises.
However, I am glad you have reached some kind of satisfactory explanation.

Comment #21On Sunday it will be exactly a year since Rafa gave
Man U such a first half fright at Old Trafford.
Our starters that Saturday tea-time were
Dubravka
Yedlin Lascelles Fernandez Manquillo
Ritchie Shelvey Diame Kenedy
Perez
Muto
Benitez played 4 – 4 – 1 – 1 that day and until the late introduction of Sanchez for Rashford
we were looking OK.

Comment #23At the time Conguitos came out Spain seemed to have a fixation with the Congo
The bars had a drink which they still serve today called a Lumumba (brandy and hot chocolate)
named for Patrice Lumumba – Independent Congo’s first PM
Who was later executed (murdered) by Belgian and Katangan authorities

Comment #24The drink consists of cocoa, sometimes accompanied by cream, and a shot of rum. Some alternatives replace the rum with amaretto or brandy. Depending on whether the hot or cold cocoa is used, the result is a Hot Lumumba or a Cold Lumumba.
