Woodman Takes Swansea To The Top Of The Championship

Freddie Woodman made his tenth start for Swansea City this evening. They defeated ex-Magpie Lee Bowyer’s Charlton Athletic 1-2 and moved to the top of the Championship.

Freddie is one of only two Newcastle players who are getting starts with their loan clubs. While Freddie has started all ten of his starts in the league, Liam Gibson is the only other Magpie who is on a string of starts. Liam has started the past five games for Grimsby Town.

Dan Barlaser at Rotherham and Kelland Watts at Stevenage both got a lot of action in the beginning of their loan spells. However, their time on the pitch has faded recently. Barlaser has only 15 minutes of football over the last five matches. Watts has not started in the last two games after a string of eight starts.

Meanwhile at Carlisle, Elias Sorensen has just one league start. He is stuck behind fellow loanee Olufela Olomola in the pecking order at striker.

Not sure that we played that well against spurs , I guess we had defensive commitment although spurs definitely didn’t have shooting boots on.
Hard to think of a game this season where I could say we deserved to win

I’ve noticed Swansea’s marvelous form seems to have gotten rid of Welsh Geordie for us.

    So, come on you Swans!

not blaming the players.i know the reasons we are now looking inept at doing the basics is down to Bruce and his backroom staff, what they are working on during training i have no idea .
Just frustrates the hell out of me when they come out after games with the usual “we need to be better ”
and yes I would say morale is as low as when maclaren was here right now.
Always said i can take defeats, even the odd poor performance (and yes we had them under rafa too, just to keep things fair n balanced :))
What kills me is when a team representing us pulls on the shirt and appears to give up .
Forced myself to watch the game again last night and to be honest don’t get the stuff thrown at miggy or joelinton
both work there bits off but joe is so isolated he had zero chance and miggy looks a different player under Bruce.
when I saw him under rafa i thought he would be terrifying teams this season .
he gets slated for having no end product yet when he breaks he arrives 20 mins before our hapless midfield bother to move and support so the move breaks down as he tries to do the impossible on his own ,maybe he could do it in msl but against a different standard he is on hiding to nothing.
someone mentioned earlier when richie is fit give him the captaincy and let lascalles just concentrate on his own game .I think that is a decent call.
Bit like in cricket seeing your best hitting 200’s then wondering why once they are skipper they drop to ave 50 .

When will Mike Ashley sell NUFC ?

That’s what the owners of NUFC want to know. The owners are prepared to wait and see what happens. NUFC are an independent company. They don’t make contracts with individuals. They sell tickets and merchandise individually and that is their decision. Mike Ashley is doing a good deed. That’s all we can ask. It’s all about the fans. People want an NUFC to win and we’ve won on that front. We won in 2014 and that shows that the fans want to see NUFC win and the owners want to see that to happen.

Could anyone possibly want to buy NUFC if it had to be sold?

That’s a fair question to ask. That is something that fans would certainly want to know and we’ve just got one more game this season to win to make a decision.

Are you comfortable with Mike Ashley keeping the club up?

I’d prefer he not be here and I’m not sure people would want him to be a part of the club. People like him and that was never in question.

I think we’ve been reasonable in about half the games, so I’d say all is not lost given we are only 7 games in, although we are certainly a proper ball winning combative give and and go starting centre mid and goal scoring and assist making hard working winger/inside forward away from Bruce having what he needs to do the job. Rafa might have made do, but Bruce needs more.

Signings in January are a must. Gayle can go for mine, as can Shelvey, because I can’t see them giving us what we need and they have value and will have suitors. Obviously we need to get Colback’s and Saivet’s wages off the books too, Sean Longstaff needs to be fixed up as well, but the squad badly needs goals and it needs to rebuild an identity.

We need Carroll and St Max to start figuring more and the returns of Ritchie and Lejeune will help a lot, probably Fernandez for Lascelles too, and given the arm band, but this group is still glaringly short a couple starters in key positions based on what we’ve seen so far.

Think the trouble with our midfield is that they are stuck between either defending or attacking and font seem to have the skill or wherewithal to mix the two successfully – I was hoping for more from Longstaff but he’s been worse than shite since his injury

Nicky … You’re relying on Andy (2 goals in 3 years) Carroll to save us ????
God help us if he’s our only hope

Matty Longstaff needs to be fixed up I mean, not Sean of course, who is a critical player for us.

Yeah, I’m afraid Carroll is very important given Joelinton is unlikely to score many, they’ve just arrived, so they are our options up top, unless you are looking at Muto and Gayle, which to me would send us down almost certainly. I think Carroll is the most adequate Rondon replacement we have on our books, and Joelinton is on too steep a learning curve to expect results in the short term, although he could do a job for us in wider areas.

We desperately need someone in in January to adequately take Perez’s place though, unless St Max can deliver the goals and assists he gave us, but which like Joelinton for Rondon, is quite unlikely, given his record in France.

I think this quite likely our best team with the players we have if all were fit.

    ……………………….Dubravka.
    ……………Scharr..Fernandez…Lejeune.
    Manquillo……Hayden…Longstaff…Ritchie..
    ………..Joelinton…Carroll…St Max.

Decent bench too, but we of course never have a fully fit group, and are in need of that proper experienced ball winning combative give and go starting centre mid and goal scoring and assist making hard working winger/inside forward I mentioned earlier. Two quality players required in January to save our season.
