Rony Lopes was reported to be a winter target of Newcastle last month. Even though the Portuguese winger just signed for Sevilla this summer, his lack of appearances for the La Liga club led to speculation that he could be available in January.
Lopes has played just 11 minutes in the league for his new club. He also only had a 32-minute cameo in Sevilla’s first Europa League match. The issue for Lopes has been that another new signing, Lucas Ocampos, has been in scintillating form for Sevilla. He has kept the 23-year-old Lopes out of the side.
Last night, Lopes’s fortunes may have changed as he earned his first start for Sevilla in their 1-0 Europa League win against APOEL. Lopes played 72 minutes and played well. He was also interviewed after the win.
?? @Rony10Lopes spoke to the media after last night's win in the @EuropaLeague! Find out what he had to say right here ??#vamosmiSevilla #WeareSevilla #UEL

This is what Lopes had to say about the victory:
“We are very happy with the victory. Nowadays every team is good, and each game is difficult. Just because they come from Cyprus doesn’t mean that it is going to be an easy game. We were missing that second or third goal, but we played well and deserved the win.
“In the first half we played some nice stuff, and we got the goal. The fans are a real help for us, but in the second half our performance levels dropped. That being said, the most important thing was that we got the win”.
Here’s some fancy footwork from the right-winger.
Too quick. Too good ??

We have serious doubts about Newcastle’s chances of landing Rony Lopes in January. He was Sevilla’s marquee summer signing and is just taking a little time to find his feet at his new club.
Serbian defensive midfielder Nemanja Gudelj also started in the Europa League match. Gudelj joined Sevilla this summer but has also found his opportunities limited. He was linked with a move to Newcastle this summer as well.

Comment #10I would like to see a list of everything that the parasite bought from Hall and Shepherd and compare it to what remains. The money situation, including transfer fees, etc, need serious scrutiny. Everything needs to be laid bare before us after forensic accountants have followed the money trails.
I find it disgusting that people try to defend someone who has basically built his business on what amounts to slave labour, and zero hours contracts, here in the UK and around the world. A total parasite.

Comment #12It doesn’t matter if Bruce gets bladdered now or in 3 months time, the damage is done.Even Benitez couldn’t keep us up with these forwards.Joelinton and Almiron aren’t going to get the goals we need to survive,Carroll will be crocked again shortly and Gayle is a championship striker.Maximum might be a player but we can only wait and see and even if he comes good it’s not going to be enough. Its a championship squad simple as that.Footballing suicide by the parasite and his lackeys with this type of recruitment.

Jabba gone, and i mean all the way gone
The traitor gone
Some competent manager in, along with a whole bunch of coaches
Money spent on the basic facilities you find in the prem (hoy out the paddling pools etc)
Money spent on at least 1 striker who has some chance of getting goals
The season ticket holders who have chucked it in within the last 2 years given free rest of season passes and a front of the q for next season
Some PR thats not just there to keep the asset stripping hidden but actually engage with the fans and the community, with a long term goal to set up a footballing academy for local players
But most of all, an apology for the absolute horror of the last 13 years

An actual fans forum
Bringing back old players such as Sir Les and the likes as ambassadors
Ask people like Shearer, and many other ex players to hold summer coaching seasons with the top groups from the PR led local scouting of youth
The ground revamped, or simply knocked down and rebuilt, hopefully with standing areas
It needs so many basic things its frightening

Comment #21Jabba couldnt make it work with a world class manager who wanted the bare minimum
To have a say in who was bought and sold
And to have the minimum facilities you would expect at that level
To invest in youth
Give a cape-able guy the tool to work

Comment #22How can we expect anyone to want to come here now ?
They had to pay money for the traitor, and have him mug off SW in the process
Why would anyone want such a poisoned chalice
Its why the PR wanted people to believe Rafa left for money, nobody believed them

Comment #25It’s not just problems with a back 4. Playing a counterattacking game is vastly different to playing a possession based game. It takes a lot of time and work on the training pitch to bed in a system.
Steve Bruce needs to figure out how he wants us to play, and drill it into the players, and 7 games in is probably too late to be radically altering anything, particularly when you don’t have the most talented group of players in the league and maybe aren’t the greatest coaching team going around either.

Comment #28Toon22 is exactly what is needed. People like him annoy, irritate, etc, but it eventually he gets people thinking about what is going on and that we should all engage in trying to get rid of the parasite owner. Others in the supporter groups are doing their bit. Hopefully, we will be rid of the parasite sometime soon. Without action nothing changes.

Comment #30@Nicky.Agreed it is a negative outlook but I see no positives, just being realistic the way I see it.Bruce had only one option as far as I am concerned, copy the exact same plan that his predecessor employed to the letter and do not deviate from it.The drop in standards that we now see is because Bruce is a serial failure at this level and we let Rondon and Perez go to be replaced with untested kids from inferior leagues. The writing was on the wall from the get go and I think it will only get worse.

Comment #31If I was one of those players in the dressing room after the Leicester defeat, I might be thinking, Jesus, we got a player sent off, in the first half, away, against a very good side, while playing an unfamiliar system and probably an unsuited system, with loads of our bigger players missing, and the manager, who’s struggling himself, is now tearing strips off us. Shit sure runs downhill fast at Mike Ashley’s NUFC.

Comment #35Have to say though, it was quite discouraging how we so easily lost our shape when we went down to ten men.
Really, if you go down to ten you normally just stay in position and make it hard for the opposition to break you down. So why didn’t that happen?
We didn’t so much surrender, as just get dragged all over the pitch, and run ragged.
Is that down to the players or the coach?
