Bruce Reveals What He Thinks The Biggest Problem Of All Is At Newcastle

Steve Bruce has all but thrown in the towel at trying to shape this team into an attacking force. He arrived with some bravado that he could get the team playing on the front foot. However, that has led to only 4 goals and no games with a higher percentage of possession.

Bruce has claimed that he must now revert to what the squad is familiar with. And that is the way they played the past few seasons under Rafa Benitez. That would be perfectly fine with us if Bruce could get similar results. We have our doubts that he can.

Through constant repetition on the training pitch, Benitez had the players well versed in every situation that would come their way. The first seven league games this season have given us little hope that Bruce can replicate that.

We’ve seen really only one game this season in which the team put in a full ninety-minute performance. That was against a Spurs side who now, six weeks later, look a terrible mess.

The Daily Mail have published the comments that have touched a bit of a nerve with some fans:

“The two or three times I’ve tried to change us, it didn’t really work. I quickly worked out at Norwich that we didn’t have the players with the capability to play the way I’d envisaged.

“In the Premier League, you’ve got to be big and physical and have the ability to run. Unfortunately, that is one thing here now, from the back to my midfield, we haven’t got.

“And, ultimately, until we’ve got that, we’re going to have to play in a certain way, and the identity will be to sit deep and play on the counter-attack because that is the only way we can play.

“That certain way has been drilled into them (by Benitez). We have to start with that again.”

These comments sound a little too much like Bruce is playing the victim. A victim of a mediocre squad who can’t unlearn what the previous manager instilled in them. The most regrettable part of his comments is that he questions the suitability of the players for the Premier League.

Bruce should be reminded that he was more than happy with this squad at the close of the summer window. He described the club’s transfer business as remarkable.

We hope this is not going to be a running theme with Bruce going forward. There is a stench of unaccountability in his comments. It looks like this is the road he is going to travel though as he doubles down on his comments in the following promo:

In this promo, Bruce says the biggest problem is that the players are familiar with playing a certain way. Well, that is not an uncommon situation for any new manager. It’s up to the manager to be able to clearly get his ideas across to the squad.

We shudder to think what we will hear next if we get another dreadful performance on Sunday. Steve Bruce, himself, pleaded with the fans to judge him on results. He is trying to move the goalposts by making excuses about the squad being insufficient. He needs to get back to the mantra that results are all that matters. Because they are. He is not going to convince anyone of anything else.

And while we’re at it, why don’t we just go back to Benitez doing it? Would he break his contract and come back? I doubt it but it would be tremendous. Mikey couldn’t handle the blow to his ego though and he’d have to pay off Mr. Brucie as well. Oh well, we can still dream….

Just further confirmation that he’s completely out of his depth. This is becoming embarrassing tbh.
Since he was last struggling in the PL things have moved on in leaps and bounds. He’s been left so far behind he just doesn’t know what to do.
Trying to say PL players don’t know how to play in any other way is just cringe worthy. It’s really no wonder he’s already lost the dressing room is it? You can’t insult professionals to cover up your own shortcomings. Charnley needs do something decisive with or without Ashley’s permission. Might get rid of them both if he does! 🙂

We may not be big but our players have been physical and more than willing to run in the past few years. To say otherwise is quite disrespectful to the players that their manager dismissed their previous efforts and say publicly that they’re unwilling to run. You do not finish mid table two years running if you’re not willing to run and put the effort in.

For the record, under Benitez, there were games we sat back, there were games we pressed high, some games pressed in our half. We were quite flexible and was a clear game plan each match. Something we lack now.

Norwich ripped us apart at their ground, villa absolutely schooling them.

Really has been difficult to find 3 worse teams than us. We’ve been pretty much on par with Watford who I think will improve. That’s it.

As long as Norwich remain inconsistent they will be at the bottom with us. Really struggling to see anyone else.

I’m sorry if you thought my comment disrespectful
I was saying that your belief that toon22 actually has e-mailed
his MP naïve – that’s hardly an opinion on your character.
    He persistently accuses me of
    being a multiple
    paid PR for Ashley
    (both untrue)
It’s extremely irritating which is his intention I’m sure

What does that tell you about HIS character ?

    with other teams.

We get schooled by Norwich but we’re going to beat ManU? They’re not what they were but still far better than we have been so far. Get the thinking cap on Mr. Brucie. Is it time to slip oot the back door yet?

I have no wish to become embroiled in other peoples disagreements but it appears that Jib is suggesting that Toon 22’s claim that he has written to and received a reply from his MP is untrue.

I can’t imagine that Toon 22 would make this up as it would serve no purpose and he does appear to be extremely dedicated to ridding us of Ashley as opposed to Jib and his cohorts defending him at every opportunity .

Remember last season we had many posters saying how we’ve been hard done by regarding refs, penalties etc. Don’t think we’ve had one penalty shout this season lol. No game this season have we actually had a performance which I would rank as good other than the spurs game.

How to throw away a point! And maybe it is Liverpool’s year.

Albrighton easily steals the ball from Origgi, instead of booting it, inexplicably loses it and concedes a penalty. Crazy.

Jib toon is such a clown there is no doubt he has written to these people. He’s probably wrote to the local library asking if Ashley has any books late and if they could step in and take ownership. As some will at least he’s doing something but that something must have some sort of substance which he doesn’t have.

You’ve done well in upsetting The Wife. When will you learn to temper your arrogance! Letting it run riot’s not very clever – hardly a sign of wisdom?

And this from one who’s happy to plagiarise information and post it as though from the depths of your very own vast knowledge bank and one whose claims are preposterous while being one who seems to defend Ashley and his exploitation of NUFC and its fans.

And, by claiming to be wronged by suggestions you post under a number of IDs your credibility is further diminished.

If those players are able to follow the instruction by Benitez and follow through then certainly he have done a great job.

The new manager/ coach are supposed to figure out what he have got and implement it.
If bruce cannot get those players to be motivated to play in whatever ways then he have fail.
