Newcastle Handed Big Opportunity With Recent Manchester United News

This is reportedly Manchester United’s traveling squad for Sunday’s match at St James Park. As you can see there are some big names missing from the team.

It looks like there will be no Paul Pogba, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, or Jesse Lingard in the side to face Newcastle. Both Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw had already been ruled out with hamstring injuries.

This is a great opportunity for Newcastle to get three points from a struggling Manchester United side that has been weakened even further through injury. They are currently in tenth place after spending almost £150m in the summer.

We expect that both DeAndre Yedlin and Allan Saint-Maximin will get significant minutes Sunday. Both have recently been declared fit by Steve Bruce.

Saint-Maximin did not play last weekend after making his return against Brighton two weeks ago. Yedlin played for the first time since April last Sunday at Leicester.

This is what Steve Bruce said on Friday about facing his former club:

“Yes, they might not be the Manchester United of the past, but they’ve still got some very good players and we’re going to have to be better than we were last week.

“It’s a wonderful time to play them because it’s a full house live on TV. If you have to bounce back against anybody, what better way than against them?

“I don’t think I’ve ever beaten them, which is a worry, of course. I had the privilege to play there for a long time. It was a long time ago, but they’re one of the great clubs of Europe.

“It’ll be a big occasion and we have to make sure we’re ready for it. We’ve played badly in a couple of games, but we’re capable. We’re going to have to play well on the day.

“At Spurs, the resilience was there for everybody to see. For some reason, we lost that last week.”

If there was ever a time to turn the season around, it is on Sunday. The Red Devils have not won in their last ten away matches.

Though as Steve Bruce says he has never beaten them. We suppose a draw would extend both streaks. But we want more than that on Sunday.

We are desperate for three points which would see us climb out of the relegation zone right before the international break.

I honestly struggle with the fact we got Rafa in the 1st place to manage/coach our club, now i am totally bemused that he is gone and we have Steve FN Bruce, running the show.
People have a go at TOON 22 for his views but he is 100% correct.

Hard not to draw the conclusion that Steve Bruce was quite likely given the remit by Charnley and Ashley to play more attacking football as a post Rafa antidote or panacea. But didn’t it surely occur to the three of them that Rafa played on the counter for very good reason?

To essentially replace our main source of goals, attacking guile and experience in Rondon, Perez and also Joselu, with two unproven and expensive starlets and a habitually injured former hero, and at the same time replace a world class manager with a journeyman English one, and then say hey, now go out there and entertain, win games and get the fans back onside, is as ridiculous and misguided as anything Ashley’s ever done throughout his wretched ownership of the club.
Bruce needs to completely cut out any semblance of self pity and he needs to build up the players not deflect the blame onto them. The fans have every right to be furious. The press every right to question his tactics and motivational abilities after 3 dreadful performances. It’s as if he walked in with his eyes wide shut.

Not once in his managerial career has he been able to achieve that, its utterly beyond him
Worse still the place Jabba has the club in means we are utterly beyond changing things

Our team might as well be ” PININ’ for the FJORDS?!?!?!? ”

Mr. Praline: ‘E’s not pinin’! ‘E’s passed on! This parrot is no more! He has ceased to be! ‘E’s expired and gone to meet ‘is maker! ‘E’s a stiff! Bereft of life, ‘e rests in peace! If you hadn’t nailed ‘im to the perch ‘e’d be pushing up the daisies! ‘Is metabolic processes are now ‘istory! ‘E’s off the twig! ‘E’s kicked the bucket, ‘e’s shuffled off ‘is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin’ choir invisible!! You think the players will be able to follow what our Jedi like manager wants them to do ?
He can shout, he can look confused

But he seems to be unable to communicate exactly what he requires

In reality he has no idea what he thinks will work, neither do the players
His tactics are the equivalent of a “hoofball formation” where he thinks if he shoves them on the field, somehow it will be “all reet”

I doubt that he’ll play AC from the off either probably give Muto another chance, he does have a tendency to give returning from injury player an immediate start rather than wean them back into the side, I’m not including last weeks game for Yedlin as it was a hopeless situation for him to return to.

Toon22, I think Bruce’s record in the top flight reflects the players he’s had to work with as much as his own abilities as a manager. He’s been fair to middling, but very probably now too outdated to be even that nowadays. The most important thing for his chances of “succeeding” at Newcastle, and that’s a relative term, we are talking mid table, are dependent on his capacity to get Ashley and Charnley to allow him to build a squad of appropriate depth, balance, quality and experience, and that’s beyond slim.

Ashley is happy as soon as we are safe, but the blanket is always too short and too thin to ever be confident of even that. It really is as if Steve Bruce inexplicably decided to disregard the goings on at his hometown club over the last 13 years, and in particular the treatment of his predecessor in one last desperate throw of the dice at relevance.

Yeah, I’d start Fernandez and give him the arm band NY. Plenty of quality and experience and Lascelles was as guilty as anyone last week of not sticking to the task, not great in your skipper.

I think this is our best possible 11 with everyone fit.

    ……………………….Dubravka.
    …………….Schar…Fernandez…Lejeune.
    …Manquillo……Hayden………L/staff……..Ritchie.
    …………..Joelinton…Carroll….St Max.

We need a really top notch centre mid and attacking wide midfielder with goals and assists in January to have any sort of chance of staying out of the relegation dogfight in the New Year.

    Nicky,

    Just asking…..not having a go
You don’t have to be so defensive mate 🙂

Actually, I wouldn’t necessarily disagree with you, lascelles has been fairly poor this season. Fernandez is probably a better defender, lacselles is probably a better communicator.

As we have kinda collapsed over the last few games, better defenders are the order of the day.

Hahaha, did that come across as defensive? Unintentional if it did. Apologies. Lascelles has leadership skills, that to me is his greatest asset, football wise he’s still a bit prone to a poor pass and a poor decision compared to Fernandez I think, and right now he seems to be “frustrated” by what’s been going on, and not quite focused on the job at hand. I’d rest him, as Rafa had previously.

If the ref has a straight honest game I can see a win for Newcastle United v Man U .

Early goal for us then sit back hit them on the break …easy ! , if only it was .
