Alan Shearer So Proud Of Newcastle’s New Star

Alan Shearer has not had much of a presence on Twitter after Newcastle games this season. However, this evening he has two tweets and both are about 19-year-old Matty Longstaff.

This is Alan’s first tweet when Matty scored his game-winner for Newcastle United. It was a timely one indeed.

Then after the game, Alan sent out a congratulations to Matty and his entire family. What a moment it is for young Matty!

The youngster looked confident from the start. He was very good on the ball and played some excellent cross field passes to the flanks. After a performance like this, Matty may have forced himself into the first team.

It was also great to see Andy Carroll as the first player to celebrate with Matty. It’s been a fantastic evening for Geordies and Newcastle fans everywhere.

We need to find a big mobile willing runner at 9. Joel is good but attitude not great. We need more power pace up front for bruce to continue this template.

Fantastic result and a very very good performance by every player on the pitch (it’s been a while since I’ve been able to say that), especially after last week.

Saint-Maximin is the missing link we’ve been missing. So fast, skilful and direct. He’s an absolute steal for what we paid for him and for me he was probably our man of the match but very hard to chose between him and Matty Longstaff.

Matty Longstaff, I think we’ve got a seriously good young player on our hands here. Tough tackling, great vision and isn’t shy to take a shot. Great goal and a perfect debut.

The rest of the lads were brilliant. Carroll gave us something else and he could be very important for us this season. Defenders are petrified of him.

When we play attacking football we can beat anybody, we need to take this forward now and keep going.

Well done to the lads! Come on the Toon!

Also, it was good to see Dwight Gayle is back. His record at premier league level isn’t great but there’s no denying he’s a danger in front of goal at any level. He could play a big role for us and is by far our best finisher.

Absolutely delighted for the lads they all played like a team that wanted to fight for this club. A far cry difference from last week.

Please, please, please leave these two absolute gems in midfield Bruce. It’s amazing how we’ll they compliment each other and it’s crazy how good they both are at striking the ball, they are both goal threats.

Maximin and Almiron were terrific, a real threat and they linked amazingly in the build up for the goal.

Willems and Yedlin provide good pace and balance to our attacks and Schar and Clark looked really solid.

Finally have a team full of pace, skill, tenacity, spirit, some quality and heart. Decent squad if they show up like this week in week out. Shame about the manager but I will give credit to Bruce, didn’t get anything wrong this game. Hopefully we kick on now, everyone is on a high.

No one played bad today. I thought Clark and yedlin transformed the team.

Clark can play a bit and bring the ball forward. Dummet is probably the worst footballing player at the club. Good defender but terrible with the ball.

It was great to see Yedlin back bombing down the wing. He was a real threat and I thought he did well defensively too.

Huge improvement today. Hope it continues. Pointless beating Man U and Tottenham and then dropping points at home to Watford and Brighton.

A good result and a game which we fully deserved to win, great to see both Longstaff’s start. Sean still looks a bit rusty after the injuries but Matty played with no fear and put in a great performance.

A few things from today’s game, Saint-Maximin gives us some flair and something different, he’ll frustrate at times but the he causes defenders problems and looks like someone who can become a big player for us.

Clark won’t get many mentions but I was impressed, in from the cold and don’t think he made any mistakes, won must of his headers. Not sure if he was meant to be on Maguire when he missed a sitter but who cares now.

Almiron was good at times, still seems to be almost be trying too hard, a goal or two would really settle him down.

Carroll I thought looked decent, he certainly unsettled the centre backs and got stuck in defensively.

Schar, another great performance, think he won ever header and made a couple of fantastic tackles, especially the last second one to stop Rashford having a tap in.

Much better overall, yes Man Utd were poor but a much better performance after the Leicester game.

The key for me though was players closing down, makes such a difference. Lastly will give Bruce a bit of credit, freshened things up with Matty and Clark coming in.

Ha ha, what a result. When people ask why I keep going, it’s simply for days like today. I’ve said it so many times, I don’t give the knacka a second thought when I’m there, it’s all about the players on the pitch and nothing else.
Where that performance came from after last week’s debacle I have no idea, but I’m glad I was there to experience it.
Got a sore throat and knacked me back in where some loon grabbed me when we scored, but I’ll live I reckon. 🙂
Gave St Max motm because he was the spark that ignited the team today, but great credit to young Matty who I will admit I was concerned about to start with. What is it with debuts against Manure? Struck his goal brilliantly.
Anyway, happy man today. Shame there’s a break, but hey ho, give Matty chance to get down off cloud nine. 😀

Robbie Savage sticking the boot into the Geordies after the game saying if this was Rafa we’d all be raving over how amazing he is, but because it’s Bruce he’s not getting the recognition. Hasn’t got a clue about our club, but that won’t stop him having an ‘opinion’.

83 I think the sky panel were a bit emotional too. What a day. Its great for Bruce, will help clear his head and breathe a bit. Going back to rafa’s template, if we can call it that, doesnt have to be a sign of weakness. We cud do a leicester next week but hope not obviously. If we wants to play this way we need to spend heavily on a striker because joe is not what we need.

Maybe Matty can be our Mason Mount/Harry Wilson this season? Nice to see some young British players coming through and getting a chance in the first teams in the league this year. I hope he keeps his place in the next game away to Chelsea.

I know some people will say it’s too big of a game for him and he may buckle under the pressure, but he seems like he can handle himself alongside his brother. He earned the right to play in the next game. It’s his place to lose as far as I’m concerned.

G157 it was a courageous team selection and his comnents where we thought he was throwing them under the bus had a good effect, not a bad one. Mind u we cudnt gave complained if they had drawn. Still feel we need more pace in the team especially up top.

Whilst waiting at outside the premier club for my daughter to arrive from Uni in Durham I had a lovely chat with a lady in her 70s. She was there with her daughter-in-law and grandson, all were waiting to go into the players entrance. She told me that the two year old was really excited because both of his brothers would be playing!

So for Lukes’ and others’ benefit there is another Longstaff – but i’m not sure he’s quite ready for the first team yet.

Good for Hayden to have some competition in midfield
    Ki can deputize for Sean
Shelvey I’m afraid may be the odd man out
Incidentally I think he could be a useful addition to Manutd who have a very weak central midfield right now
