It’s A Magical Matty Longstaff Goal That Gives Newcastle A 1-0 Victory At Home

What a win for the lads. It took a moment of magic from a hometown lad to get the three points today. It didn’t look like a winning goal would be coming until Matty Longstaff’s 72nd minute blast.

Both sides came out unchanged after a scoreless first half. Newcastle would get an immediate chance but Almiron’s shot went wide.

It turned very stale for Newcastle as Manchester United had much of the possession and looked more of a threat for the first 25 minutes of the half.

Joelinton was substituted for Andy Carroll in the 55th minute. The plan seemed to be to lump the ball into the box for Andy.

Newcastle got a great chance as Matty put in a dangerous cross that Andy headed over the crossbar in the 64th minute.

Manchester United got some excellent chances but just couldn’t quite get anything to happen for them.

Then the moment we’ve all been waiting for as Matty Longstaff blasted the ball into the back of the net from outside the box in the 72nd minute. It was his first goal for Newcastle in his Premier League debut.

Allan Saint-Maximin made one of his brilliant runs and found Jetro Willems in the box. Willems did well to maintain possession and found a trailing Matty Longstaff whose low drive beat David De Gea.

Matty becomes the youngest player to score on his Premier League debut for Newcastle.

Emil Krafth came on for Miguel Almiron in stoppage time as the lads would be able to hold off Manchester United for all three points.

This is exactly what Newcastle needed as they move out of the relegation zone and into 16th place. What a fantastic moment.

However, there is still a lot of work to be done to keep us safe this season.

Good win , pleased for matty – think Man U might be the worst team we’ve seen this season – how the mighty have fallen 😀

Honestly thought we’d concede at the end there. Been sweating buckets. It was a poor ManU team, but that doesn’t take anything away from us though. Young Longstaff was the player I’d have chosen to score the winner in an ideal world. He’ll be walking on air all week after that. Well pleased for him.

Matty should walk away with the MOTM this week on Ed’s poll. It’ll be robbery if he doesn’t!

So good!!! Get in Matty. Great performances from many. Our back line was solid and for the most part distributed forward really well.

Going to give props to Steve Bruce, went with Matty even with Ki and Shelvey available after getting battered last week, great call.

    Great win!

    Critical for Bruce.

Lots of good performances. MAtty has to get MOTM. Longstaffs together in the CM for the foreseeable, at least the next 2 matches and possibly from here on in – what a dream realised for them.

    2 week break.

Get everybody healthy for the return. Competition for places will be fierce.

Ritchie back and putting pressure on Willems and as an alternative.

Carroll and Gayle chomping at the bit.

ASM finally got some good match time and looked very dangerous. Please spend the next 2 weeks with the shooting coach Almiron.

Clark also took his chance, didn’t put a foot wrong and communication seemed a lot better with him in there.

Credit where it’s due. Tactics spot on and manure looked a poor team.
Chuffed for young Longstaff, the lad looked raw but took his goal really well. Looks a prospect.

    Newcastle 1-0 Man Utd

It’s Manchester United’s lowest points tally after eight games since 1989-90. Although I’m pretty sure that was also true before kick-off (about seven games).

Nine points from eight games. Borderline relegation form.

Typical that NBC Sports goes straight to bloody Nascar after the game with no post game coverage. Every other game this weekend poured over the game and had a studio reaction. We beat the Mancs and get nowt. Oh well.

Chelsea away next, I think it might be smart to put young Matty on the bench. Take him out the firing line for when we get battered, keep his confidence up.

What a win that is and makes it all the sweeter with young matty scoring the goal. Credit to bruce for starting him ahead of shelvey who I’ll repeat has no way of getting back in the starting xi.

Amazed at the grief thrown toward almiron, he started the move with a quality bit of play, rather than booting it up the pitch he made enough space to get past a player and pick a cracking ball out, asm was good as well.

Yedlin proves me right that he is far better than manquillo, massive 3pts. Absolutely made up for matty though

I agree Shelvey is done here.

He seems intent on wasting his career. Ambles around and is far too unfocused, low energy and selfish. Great when he’s on form and motivated with the right system and ST, but that’s a lot of factors which have never aligned for more than brief periods in his entire career. Have to play a certain way to accommodate him and he doesn’t rise to it often enough.

Lack of innate desire to win and the professionalism that brings out in a person has stunted his career. Sell in Jan.

Our Toon – I agree Almiron was ace for us but like I posted earlier during the match Bruce needs to get him practising over and over beating a single man then shooting until he finds the net 9 out of 10 times. Once he can do that in training the goals will come for the lad.

So happy for Matty. What a dream come true for the lad. Gallowgate end on his debut, with brother, against Man U. Well done lad!

Watched the match without the usual nerves due to expectations falling so low. Enjoyed the day. Perhaps the way forward is an approach of blasé indifference. Nah!!!!

    From my armchair.

Dubravka – Solid. Not a lot to do.
Clarke – Solid. Some good clearing headers.
Lascelles – Solid. Led the team well.
Schaar – Solid. Good going forward but also some crucial clearances.
Jethro – Excellent. Was up with the forwards for the pass.
Yelling – Effective. Welcome back deservedly.
Matty – Outstanding. Didn’t look out of place. Earns his place in the team.
Sean – Outstanding. Looks liking he is back to his own self.
Almiron – Frustrating. So much potential. Needs training on how to score goals.
ASM – Tremendous. A real threat all day.
Joelinton – Frustrating. Not getting the service he needs.
Carroll – Strong. Very effective. Welcome home.

Bruce – Excellent tactics and formation. And giving Matty his chance.

Too many on here giving too much of the lads credit too Man U simply being poor. True Man U were suffering injuries but you play what’s in front of you and here’s their starting line-up today:

De Gea, Young, Maguire, Dalot, Tuanzebe, Fred, McTominay, Pereira, Mata, James, Rashford.

That’s hardly a cheap or untalented side.

What we did do was give the ball away too cheaply a few times and were lucky to get away with it.
