Newcastle Linked With January Move For 22-Year-Old Defender

There was news yesterday that Steve Bruce would shake up his back-line by bringing in Ciaran Clark and dropping Paul Dummett. Due to Clark’s minimal appearances this season, it would be a shock if the 29-year-old was brought out of the dark for today’s game.

The team is well-stocked with players at the central defender position with six players who can do a job there. They have been without Florian Lejeune since April with his knee injury. There is also Federico Fernandez, who has not featured much this season. The 30-year-old’s contract runs out this summer.

While Newcastle have leaked 13 goals this season, they have only managed to score 4. That is level with Watford for the worst in the Premier League. So we would think that Newcastle would be more apt to address the goal-scoring problem this winter.

However, there is an exclusive in the Sun that Steve Bruce is a big admirer of Nottingham Forest’s center-back Joe Worrall. The report claims that Newcastle will try to bring him in on a cut-rate deal in January.

The Sun claims that Worrall’s contract will expire in the summer, thus allowing Newcastle to bring him in on the cheap. However, NottinghamshireLive claim that his contract does not run out until 2022. They say he signed a four-and-a-half-year extension in October of 2017.

Joe Worrall– not really needed at Newcastle this winter

The 6’4″ Nottingham born defender has risen through the ranks at Nottingham Forest. He joined the club in 2011 when he was just 14 years old. He has been out on loan twice in his career. In 2016, he joined League then-League Two club Dag & Red. Last season, he played under Steven Gerrard at Rangers where he made 32 appearances.

Worrall has made 67 appearances for Forest and has been capped at the England U-20 and U-21 level. He has started all 11 games in the Championship this season.

We are not sure of the situation with his contract as Transfermarkt.com has it running out in 2020, but his Wikipedia page mentions that he did sign an extension.

Either way, we don’t think Newcastle will make a move for Worrall this winter. If his contract does, in fact, run out in 2020, we suppose they could try to get him as a free agent to replace Federico Fernandez this summer. We just think having seven players at the position would be a bit too much.

However, this is not the only central defender Newcastle have been linked with recently. The club were reportedly scouting Koray Gunter at Hellas Verona last month. So maybe they are looking at some younger players to bring in for the future. Though we don’t think it will be a priority.

Relegation is our only saviour at the moment!

We wont come back up this time, and deservedly so and Ashley will sell up when we stay in the championship, so it’s really good news when we lose.

If there is a perfect time for Manure to boost their moral, now is the time against us.

Watch the criticism as the pro traitor Bruce brigade will be out soon.

As iv e said upmteen times

We have a few MPs who have mentioned Jabba directly, all we need to do is wait for the legislation and he will be investigated
Fans concerns have already been mentions in parliament, its not just our club that has a problem with him. I asked my MP to look at his actions within football before more clubs have a problem iwth him

If you think the accounts are spot on im sure you would be happy for them to be looked into and given an independent thumbs up

Forest will be reluctant to sell if they are in a good position for promotion in January.

With the Man U squad witch has travelled Matty might be a decent call today instead of Ki.

Their CM options are Matic, McTominay, Fred and Gomes. Hardly world beaters and McTominay is likely one given he didn’t play on Thursday. I think he’ll go with Matic alongside him. Both slow so I think Matty could do well playing around them, from what I’ve seen he is very energetic and good at pass-move-pass.

Ye I’ve just flown back from the US and now live in sunny Merseyside:)

Toon if what you says comes true then I will love it regardless if it means an imbecile like you got something right – you already have the failed takeover on me 🙁

However I am extremely confident nothing will as it can’t from what I can see – as I said bet for charity????

If all this talk about central defenders being scouted does this mean Ashley has already told Bruce that he will have to sell players like Schar and Sean to boost the pot.

That’s the only thing that worry’s me, hopefully he will be fired by Jan, sooner rather than later.

I remember Bruce putting the kibosh on selling Clark in the summer. I wonder if Bruce has been under some pressure to explain why he insisted on keeping Clark when he hasn’t played.

Clark is definitely a strange inclusion. Can’t help but think bruce is just trying any old thing now. Though I am glad to see the Longstaffs starting a premier league game together it, it probly wouldn’t have happened so soon under rafa.
