Who Was Newcastle’s Man Of The Match In Win Against Manchester United?

One thing Newcastle fans have been starved of lately is a moment to cheer about. Well, we got that today as Matty Longstaff’s long-range goal helped give Newcastle their first victory at St James Park this season.

The victory sees the lads rise out of the relegation zone into 16th place. Just in time for the international break.

Allan Saint-Maximin made a difference today. He is all out attack and made some brilliant runs to set up chances. Putting him on from the start paid dividends today. The Longstaff brothers also played very well together.

However, we can’t let one magical moment paper over some of the obvious cracks. Newcastle are having a lot of trouble scoring goals. It was no different today. Miguel Almiron played very well but as soon as he gets a chance to score he just seems to freeze. He had three great chances this evening that he failed to put away.

We only managed to get 2 of our 12 efforts on target and had just 31% possession. However, we were much improved on the counter-attack.

Joelinton was also a little off the pace today. However, he suffered a back injury on Friday that may have limited his mobility.

But what matters is the three points and this is a big win for Steve Bruce and the players. Matty Longstaff, Allan Saint-Maximin, and Fabian Schar were outstanding today. DeAndre Yedlin also played very well in his return to the first-team.

This site gave MOM to Willems, who showed class. Cleared two players to give the assist. Him with the Saint can forge a good partnership.

Special mention to Yedlin and Clarke, who came in and contributed a lot in keeping them quiet.

None of these players should lose their places.

Of course, Matty should win it.

Great effort from the lads to come back from last week’s performance.
Sean has to be immensely pleased for his young brother as indeed we all are.

No more than we deserved in a game of end to end tedium and pleased for young longstaff especially as he’s in there by default, but although this is a win against man Utd the only similarity between this team and that of previous years is the strip let’s be honest. Their defence tutned outvto be marginally more shocking than our attack. 🙂 In times past wins like these were momentous days but this one I’m not sure signifies an awful lot. It’s three valuable points though and we could build some slow momentum or at least get off the bottom if we can shut Chelsea out. But to be fair that’s going to be a lot tougher.

There’s just NO feeling like seeing a local lad, on his debut, score a winning goal against Man Utd!
    Ecstatic!

    Munster,
In the interest of balance and fairness can you endlessly remind us that Matty wouldn’t have been given a chance if Hayden never got carded.
A comment like that on a great Sunday like this
What a weasel you truly are

Schars foot in was notable and if carroll had got his head on that a bit cleaner it would have been a top goal and a lot more convincing win to give us confidence.

Best duo midfielder in our current squad!! Sean stand low and control game with his high game understanding, Matty stand higher give us power with his workrate and hunger for attack. So happy with team effort today 😀

    HWTL!!

Jib, as I said earlier, jail is odd. He has to try to score a point on me, even on a night like tonight. Jeez i’m in his head! What a bitter wa*ka he is 🙂
