Sunderland are mired in another season in League One in which they again have not gotten off to the brightest of starts. After a 2-0 defeat at Lincoln City dropped them to 6th in the table last weekend, Sunderland parted ways with manager Jack Ross.
Ross was appointed in May of 2018 after Sunderland’s second straight relegation. Owner Stewart Donald quickly made himself available to the media to address the situation to fans. This is what he said to BBC Newcastle after the Ross sacking:
“My judgement call would be that our best chance of promotion would be to change it.
“The only thing that is going to prove that is at the end of the season – whether or not we do get promoted.
“Jack certainly felt he probably had to win every game and any time we lost a game it was very difficult for him,”
“That is a high-pressure environment, but that is Sunderland in League One.
“The reality of this club is we have the best travel arrangements, the best medical investment, we have the best facilities, we have got the best budget. I believe we have got the best squad.
“We are, I would have thought, the most professional League One club there has ever been in lots of ways. With that set-up, I think it is fair to expect us to deliver success.
“At any other club in League One, there is probably very little chance of being sacked being sixth in the table.”
Sunderland fans were also hit with the news that the potential takeover by MSD Partners had collapsed on the same day at the Ross firing.
Donald responded to one despondent fan on Twitter who was upset about the takeover news.
That is up to you Eddy. I have done and am doing my best to attract investment from quality people. I cannot comment on where the deal is for investment yet – I said two weeks & I will update you. I can tell you there is no issue with valuations. I haven't haggled price!
— stewart donald (@stewartdonald3) October 8, 2019
Well potential investment is still very possible. I have never changed the price and we haven't even valued the lads in the academy in any conversations but other than that it is spot on!!
— stewart donald (@stewartdonald3) October 8, 2019
Today the club has issued a statement on their managerial search and the situation with the takeover.
An update from #SAFC… ??https://t.co/1OJU35T04x
— Sunderland AFC (@SunderlandAFC) October 11, 2019
All of this communication from Sunderland’s owner in just a few days time.
Meanwhile, Newcastle don’t get much of anything from Mike Ashley. Sure, the club responded to Jeremy Corbyn this week. But that was all in an effort to save face on a national stage.
When it only involves Newcastle supporters it’s a trickle of information here and there.
There was nothing on the takeover saga that gripped Newcastle fans this summer until it was all washed away in a carefully orchestrated interview with the Daily Mail.
There was also nothing on the Rafa Benitez situation until the shock announcement that he was gone. When it comes to Newcastle’s fans, Mike Ashley has shown complete indifference.
In this respect, Stewart Donald has put Mike Ashley to shame.

From the wording of the council statement
I would guess they are minded to uphold the

Comment #88Robleenio……….. On one of your earlier posts you state that one of your best pals is a Sunderland fan. I have given this considerable thought and after careful consideration I have to conclude that it can’t be right.
This is tantamount to colluding with the enemy and although this is a sensitive area as we all do have to come into contact with them from time to time, you should not have declared your allegiance to said individual on this blog.
May I ask if he lives this or t’other side ert watter?

Comment #95Lol bettys I wondered if someone would pick up on that. He lives on marden estate, we met through the kids at school but we’ve known each other twelve years now, we go out regularly and he’s a great lad.
Except, of course, for his questionable taste in football teams…
Actually he was born in Seaham but raised in Watford, you’d never know he was a Sunderland fan unless he told you. Maybe that’s why he’s a good lad, he never grew up anywhere near the dark place!

Comment #111Someone suggested that the Council spokesperson’s comment might suggest it’s against the Strawbery development. Even if the application’s turned down, you can bet your boots the decision will be appealed and if necessary, referred to government.
If Johnson and his chums are in place, you can kiss goodbye to any potential for expansion to SJP.
Now that could prove to be a test of loyalty for some of our posters!

Planning appeals seem to take place in Bristol for some reason. It’s happened several times here in Southend, the local council turns down an application for good local reasons, some faceless planning officer arrives from Bristol, says it’s OK to build yet another block of flats with inadequate parking and voila another local eyesore.
Don’t think it’s got anything to do with party politics though.

Planning appeals can be referred to one of government’s departments for a final decision and I’m sorry to disagree with you but given Corbyn’s seeming interest in NUFC and football club governance, I’m sure there’d be more chance of success with his lot than with the current set of shysters.
